Ok, so having the ceremony in Korea puts me in a bit of a pickle.  I won't speak the same language as the hairsylists around, and I am very picky.  So that means I have to learn how to do it myself...I am trying this.

Here's what I've found here on PW to help inspire me.  I know I want a low chignon, with flowers, or a pin, or something like that above it.  I think I will have to have a veil too, but I'm not sure how to do that, since I want my hair to show off, and I have a lace shrug on my gown.  I think if I went without a veil it might cause an uproar over there. I'm already going without gloves (shudder).  They ALL wear gloves at weddings....even the groom, and the parents...everyone.  But I'm not doin it. lol

So anyway! On to the hair ideas:

I adore this one so much, but I don't know if I can pull it off...my hair is NOT curly, and I don't even know where to start with this one...but that is my favorite one.  Here are some others I really like.

UPDATE!!!

I've been working on my own hair, and after 7 attempts, I think I've finally got it how I would like it! I still have to work on it, but this is the basic idea I am going to use.

The next time I try it I will take lots of pictures and do a tutorial if anyone else would like this curly messy romantic chignon look at home.  After curling my hair, this took about 10 minutes, and 11 bobbypins!  And it was so sturdy too!

UPDATE #2!!!

Ok, so I got my hair cut a while ago, and my stylist put a lot more hair in my shortest layer than before.  It looks great down, and all the ways I normally do my hair, but I couldn't get it into a chignon anymore.  Most of it was just too short, and I was pinning and pinning tons of short curls, and I just didn't like the look.  So when I was trying out my hair for my boudoir shoot this weekend, I decided that I think my hair will be down for the wedding now.  Here's how it came out, with my hair flower:

Thanks girls!  I got my hair cut a while ago, and although I thought I was getting the same cut, she cut a LOT more hair into my shortest layer, so that changed the whole way I have to do this hair.  I am trying a lot of different things now, to make it pretty and work with my new hair.  :)

Both hair dos are GORGEOUS! I wish I was as talented. My hair is sooooo thick.... i've never had a good professional updo before, and am completely lost when I try and do it myself. If you make the tutorial I will definitely try it out :).

Hi Rebecca,

Well I haven't done this since I posted those pictures.....like a year and a half ago.  So I was scouring youtube trying to find the video tutorial I originally used to give me the main idea of what I wanted to do.  I totally and completely can't find it though.  Either I'm just not searching right, or it's no longer on there.

So I tried really hard to remember what I did, and I think this is close.  First off, my hair isn't too thick, and goes down to about my shoulder blades, and my top layer was really thin and not too long, so there weren't too many pieces to pin in place at the end to get that wavy look.  When I got my hair cut, my stylist added more hair to my top layer, and it made doing this low updo impossible without having TONS of curls pinned everywhere because they were too short to go into the chignon.   And it looked terrible to me.  That's why I ended up doing my hair down and curly.  So just be aware that it might not work for your hair, depending on the length and style and so on.

First you curl your WHOLE head.  You might want to add a mousse or something first, and it helps if your hair has some volume.  So I blowdried my hair upside down.  When I curled my hair I think my iron was 3/4 inch.  So not too small.  And for everywhere but the hair towards the top of your head, you don't have to start the curling at your scalp, you can start a little farther down.  Wrap the hair around the barrel, don't use the clip, and hold the end with your fingers.  Then release and you'll have a loose wavy curl.  For each section wrap one direction, then the next piece, wrap the opposite direction.  This will make your curl more natural looking.  You don't have to spend a TON of time curling, because you want it to be loose and wavy and messy, not too tight.

Once you're done curling you divide your hair in half horizontally.  I put the top part up in a big clip while I did the bottom.  Take the bottom and divide it into two separate pieces, like you're making pigtails, then knot them....a bunch.  Knot the hair and roll it up into a bun at the bottom of your scalp.  Then I think I took two or three of those BIG bobby pins to secure it.  Now the top part of your hair is easy.  You just take it down and pin it loosely around the lil bun you just made.  So you can take the whole section and stick a bobby pin on the left, one on the right, one in the middle (or something along those lines), and take all those loose ends sticking out and gather them all together into one spot and pin them under the bun, or in the middle of the bun, or wherever you feel like it.  There are no hard and fast rules with this.  Make sure you leave like 3 or 4 of your top layer curls loose, and not pinned into the bun.  I then layed them out I wanted them on the top of my hair, and stuck a bobby pin in one spot on each curl, to hold them in place.  So you barely noticed the curls were even pinned.  Then spray and your done.

I'm pretty sure that's how I did it.  It sounds right to me.  I hope that helps!
