Tom wanted to have our own Christmas on Sunday (12/23). I was like what? Santa won't be able to stop by because he comes on Christmas Eve! Tom reiterated, we just have so much family stuff to do on Christmas Eve, and Christmas too, so we should really just have one day to celebrate with just you and I. I said GREAT, sounds like a plan. We can do that. I bought a small ham and all the other Christmas dinner fixin's so that we could celebrate on Christmas Eve-Eve. (LOL) I made Sticky buns the night before so that we could have a nice BIG breakfast on our Christmas Eve-Eve.
We woke up at 6 am on Sunday. Made coffee, popped the buns in the oven (ha ha ha ha! I know how silly that sounds!!!), fed the dog, cleaned up the house a bit, played with my new phone, he watched some videos on You Tube while I was doing busy work in the kitchen, it was a typical morning. Then I asked if he wanted to start opening gifts, since the buns were finished being cooked. He said sure!
So he started. He opened 3 smaller gifts and asked if I wanted to open a gift. I said sure.
He gave me one wrapped box. I opened it, and amongst the newspaper other filler stuff, there was a really nice pair of Red cable knit gloves with chenille on the inside. I was pretty excited about them. They are GREAT! (But confused because that is what my grandmas usually get for me--LOL)
Then, He opened the last 2 gifts that I got for him (the TRUMP gifts, or so I thought!). He asked if there was something in the finger of the glove that I tried on. I said that I didn't see or feel anything, but I would look again. Sure enough, there was a handwritten note inside of the glove that said, "Now you have a reason to go".**
I was thoroughly confused….I asked if he meant to a Badger game (red gloves)? He said, Yeah right--Tickets to the Rose Bowl in Pasedena--Nope! I asked if it was for a Brewers game (Maybe he got us season tickets)? I had no idea. He said no again--Why would I need winter gloves for a summer sport?
So then he let me open up the BIG gift. It was wrapped in a 6 pack of replacement can light bulbs, which we just emptied out the night before 'cause some of the lights were out in the kitchen, so I knew it wasn't actually replacement can light bulbs. I opened up that box and it was FULL of newspapers. Pretty sure it was the ENTIRE Sunday newspaper that was folded every direction, crumpled up, and stuffed tight into 5 of the 6 spots where the light bulbs were. The 6th light bulb slot had a small wrapped box in it. I unfolded all of the newspapers in the other slots, to make sure that I didn't miss something, then I unwrapped the one wrapped box in the mess. It was a little red box from Kessler's Diamonds. I OBVIOUSLY wanted it to be a ring, but though that maybe it was a pair of earrings or a necklace (Which I would have loved too). I didn't get my hopes up cause I didn't want to be expecting more than it was and look like a goofball. So I opened up the red box…….
There sat a Perfect Diamond Ring. It was instant tears. INSTANT, I tell you!
I asked him if "IT" was what I thought it was, because it was BEAUTIFUL and it was too pretty to be just a random ring. It had to have a more serious meaning. He said yes it was what I thought it was. I tried to get it onto my finger, and it was .25 of a size too small. But I got it on my finger (after many attempts and a huge red knuckle). LOL!
He asked if that was a yes? I said, "To what question?" He said, Will you………….Walk the dog? I said Of Course I will! He said, Will you………. Merry Christmas? I laughed and said Hell yes!
Then he said, Will you Marry Me? I jumped on his lap and kissed and hugged him a million times and YELLED YES YES YES!!!
That is the story! It was pretty cute! He didn't get down on one knee, but I think it was absolutely perfect how he did it. Just us, able to enjoy the day together! (And luckily, the jewelry store was open that day so we were able to get it re-sized within 4 hours!) YAY!
**The note was referring to 2 separate occasions within the last month where I asked if we could go to Kesslers Diamonds because I had heard that it was the most beautiful, breathtaking store because all they sell is diamonds (and gold and silver, or course--But no other Gem stones). Both times, he had told me that we could not go to the diamond store because we had to go to a Hunting Store, instead. In reality, he didn't want to take me in there, for fear that the sales staff would recognize him and the engagement surprise would be blown! He is so thoughtful! I do love surprises!
