Tyler and I met at a training session for the soul. Otherwise known as Peer Helpers. Tyler and I had both been through the Peer Helper training and had gone back as staff for a training at Camp Tapawingo in 1998. Although I was a few years ahead of Tyler in school, we became friends through the Peer Helper program. While we did not "hang out" together much, we did spend a day with other friends at six flags together for a school trip, and also talked from time to time in the halls, and at the RELAY FOR LIFE where we were teamed up with the other Peer Helpers. I graduated that spring. Over time, I lost touch with most of the people I knew from school.
Fast forward to Spring 2006... I was spending a lot of time on "myspace" these days. It was a big rough patch in my life. I had gotten together a few times with someone I knew in High school, and we had been hanging out for an occasional Brewers game or hockey game. It really helped to bring me out of my shell and remember how much fun life could be when you took charge of and believed in yourself. One day I logged onto "myspace" and saw a message there waiting for me. It was Tyler.
Though we hadn't seen or heard from or of each other in nearly 7 years, Tyler Reinhard was the first person that popped into my head when I saw the name Tyler and a picture where I couldn't even see his face. I went to his profile and took a look, and sure enough it was him. I "accepted" him as an online friend, and sent him a message to say hello. Over the next week or so, we emailed quick notes here and there to find a time that we could get together and catch up. My other friend that I had mentioned before was working at Applebees in Sturgeon Bay, and I wanted to stop in to see him while I was in town that weekend, so Tyler agreed to meet me there.
My friend seated us for dinner and came over to chat whenever he had a minute free. Tyler and I caught up a little on eachother and times past. He took me out to the airport to see the planes that he worked with, and we met my friend at a bar in town when he got off work. We all hung out until closing time. I remember it being SO much fun.
Over the months to come, Tyler and that other friend of mine really helped me through some tough times. Whenever I needed someone to talk to, Tyler was there for me. It did not take very long at all for me to consider him my best friend. Tyler spent a lot of time in Oshkosh working and preparing for "Airventure 2006" so we got to hang out a few times. We went to a baseball game with another friend, I was in Sturgeon Bay for the 4th of July, so we went to the fireworks. He came down with another of my friends to see the fireworks competition in Kaukauna in mid July. In late July, Tyler was working on the field at Airventure. His company had a hangar party, and Tyler invited me to come. It was an amazing time. One of the best nights of my life. We watched the planes, and listened to a live band. There was all kinds of good food, and drinks. Tyler introduced me to the people he worked with, and we all talked for hours. Later in the evening it started raining, and the band gathered under the wing of their DC-3 and continued to play. We sat and listened for a long time. I was always telling Tyler that I liked it at night when the planes came in and they turned on the "little blue lights" for the taxi ways.
Weeks later while visiting Tyler at the airport, we were sitting on the ground at the edge of the field. I was telling him that I wished the "little blue lights" would come on. We started talking about something else, but then Tyler leaned over and wispered in my ear, "Lacey look." The whole field was lit up with my "little blue lights" and I hadn't even noticed. I of course was very excited and happy with my new found bright objects :)
After Tyler and I started "dating" in the fall, it did not take me very long to understand that I had come to love Tyler more then anything I could have ever imagined. I started to reflect all of the times we had spent together over that summer, and realized that "Lacey look" was really the first moment that he made my heart flutter...
