We met in the Summer of 1988 after a Run DMC and Salt N Pepa concert at the Dallas Convention Center. I (Terrance) was spending the summer before my senior year at my Father’s in Dallas. Me and some of the dudes from the apartments were just cruising around when we saw these two girls on the 2nd floor checking us out. For some reason they had a hard time letting the window up, and had to move to another room. Anyway, we talked to them for a little while and kinda went on our way. We saw them later on that weekend at the pool, and one of the dudes said that he thought the ‘light-skinned’ one liked me. As you probably know, being light-skinned was ‘in’ back in 1988, so of course I liked her too! Since she knew my sister from the apartments, I passed my number along through her. The summer came and went, and we talked on the phone during the Fall. I went back to visit during Christmas break, and our daughter (Asia) was born approximately 9 months later! Fast forward 20 plus years into the future, and here we are... FINALLY all grown up, and ready to cut that cake together! Those of you that truly know us, know that even though it took longer than usual to make it ‘official’, it is happening exactly when and as God intended. We look forward to spending the rest of our lives together as husband and wife.
Here’s the back story:
This all came about because I’d found out that Donna told one of her friends that, and I quote: “I’m gonna know when he’s about to propose because he’s SO PREDICTABLE!”.
At that point, it was game on!
About once a month, Donna and I would go over to Gary and Sandra’s to have an ‘UNO-Night’. We would play cards, talk trash, and have a good time. Since I’m so
‘predictable’, I wanted to make absolutely sure this would be a surprise, so my friend Colette suggested that I pop the question while we were doing something that was normal for us to do so she wouldn’t get suspicious. I set it up by having Sandra call
her, talking noise about the next Uno Night and how the Saunders’ were gonna beat whoever showed up that night. Of course she was down for that. I then called a few of my closest friends to share the moment with us telling them that I was
planning on proposing at Gary’s house, and that it was going to be a surprise. The plan was for us to be hanging out, drinking, and playing cards, and when she got up to go use the bathroom (which she usually does about every 3 minutes when
drinking) I was gonna get up, start lip syncing the song that I had recently found out was playing in the background when we met (that I had to order from Connecticut, off eBay, as an album, and convert to my iPod because it was so old!). The song is
Forever Yours by Tony Terry. Well, we played UNO, ate, drank, and waited, but for some reason this time she never had to ‘go’! She had no idea that there were 10 people watching her every move waiting for the moment of truth. Finally,
Colette and Sandra made up something about needing to talk to her about something outside, and that was my chance. I got up, had Gary start playing the song, and had the girls bring Donna back in. When she heard the song she started singing along talking
about ‘that’s my jam!’, not even noticing that I was standing in the middle of the room, fake microphone in hand, attempting to lip sync the song to her! I got her attention, grabbed her hand and asked her to sing with me. After
the 1st verse, I dropped to one knee, and hit her with the BLING! Donna prides her self on being very aware, and swears that no one could ever surprise her, but she’ll be the 1st to admit that she had no clue, and was totally surprised! MISSION
ACCOMPLISHED.
Check out my birdcage veil and please excuse the hair...I promise it won't look this way the day of! Purchased the fascinatorr from DB back in May of last year and it cost way too much. Finally decided to add the french birdcage that I purchased from Ebay seller for $12, for a much better look!

Due to unexpected finances, I've had revamp my entire wedding theme from being a "glamorous bride" to now a "peacock bride", in which I am definitely enjoying! I've researched high and low and found lots of new ideas here on PW, as well as other sites.
