The Ceremony
This was very important to us because we are not religious but my family is Jewish and his family is not. So we wanted this to be about us and our beliefs and we are very much about my family and friends and so we wanted a fun ceremony. So we are doing both a wine and chocolate and a unity sand ceremony. The wine and cocolate will be the body of the ceremony and we'll wend with the unity at which point we will invite our parents to join us with their wishes.
It will start out like this:
Who gives this woman to be married to this man? INTRODUCTION:
Friends and family of Dina XXXX and Nik XXXX, welcome and thank you for being here on this important day.
Each of you are here today because you bring something special to the lives of Dina and Nik. Some of you have known one or both of them for years - and some of you are meeting one of them for the very first time today. But whether you're an old friend or a newly acquired relation, you have a special place in their hearts. Likewise, you have a special purpose. As beloved family and friends, each of you has played some part in bringing them to this moment and in various ways will continue to support and contribute to their relationship. It is you with whom they'll share their happiness. You will watch their marriage mature; you will watch their children grow. And when hard times come, and the loving support of friends and family is needed, DIna and Nik hope to be able to turn to you, just as they will turn to each other.
Wine and Chocolate Ceremony
MAIN BODY:
There will come in your life days of great sweetness, and days of bitter sorrow. There will be celebrations, and there will be tears. There will be triumphs, and there will be tragedies. Life holds indescribable happiness in store for you both - and unavoidable pain, as well. And so to symbolize your acceptance of this reality, today you will share the bitter and the sweet, just as you will share them in the years to come. Both of you, take and eat this bitter, dark chocolate. Taste in it the dark days which will rock your marriage and test its strength. It represents disappointment, illness, and grief. Know that these hard times will come, and with them, the opportunity to deepen your bond as husband and wife.
Now, take and drink this sweet red wine.
Taste in it the sweetness and light that will fill your marriage with joy. Savor the fruits of this wine, just as you will savor every happiness that your beloved brings you. It represents shared laughter, your child's first steps, your golden anniversary. Delight in it, as you will delight in your husband, your wife.
Today Dina and Nik proclaim their love and commitment to their family and friends, and we gather here to rejoice, with and for them, in the new life they now undertake together as one.
VOWS: The vows you are about to exchange are a verbal representation of your pledge to each other.

Sand Ceremony
Follows the Vows we will exchange.
Dina and Nik, you have just committed yourselves to one another through sacred vows. Your lives are no longer two, but one. To symbolize this joining, we ask that you each pour some sand into this bottle. (Each scoops some sand from the beach and pours it into the bottle. )” Dina and Nik as you pour your sand into the one container, please repeat after me: “As these grains of sand merge together as one, I merge my life with yours. Please take my love throughout the sands of time. My heart is forever in your keeping. Dina and Nik as these grains of sand are joined together, so are your hearts, your bodies and your souls in marriage. Would the parents of the bride and groom please join us for the sand ceremony and pour some sand into this glass container along with your good wishes? That would mean so much to Dina and Nik (Parents then hug each other)
