Darren and I met at a mutual friend's birthday party in Venice on June 30, 2007. He saw me across the room and was immediately smitten, but I refused to speak to him because the hostess had attempted to introduce us six months earlier and he had declined.
Unbeknownst to me, he had been on a date with the hostess and was offended that she tried to pass him off on someone else. Fortunately, my friend at the party invited him to go hiking with us on July 4th, and Darren soon won me over with his humor, intelligence, kindness and charm.
Darren proposed on Feb. 15, 2009 and we were married exactly nine months later. You can read about his creative proposal in the New York Times' review of the top 10 wedding proposals of 2009. I will say that if I had to do it all over again, I might have allowed a full year to plan our wedding. Especially when I see some of the adorable and creative things other couples did here. With only nine months, it became more of a stressful race to cross things off our to-do list than an opportunity to really enjoy the process. On the other hand, we had our hearts set on an outdoor ceremony, and February could have been damn chilly. In the end, we had a beautiful wedding and it was an amazing day.
I scoured many wedding sites for reviews and ideas, but Project Wedding was easily my favorite. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions about any of my reviews. One final word of advice: Try to delegate as much as you can!
