Shopping for wedding dresses? It can often seem like a mine-field. Are you choosing the right colour? Is it going to arrive on time? What should you spend?

Here we'll give you answers to some of these questions and much more, with 7 great tips that will help you choose a fantastic wedding dress:

1. Style - Do you know which style you would like? It's important to do the research before you start shopping, as it will help you find your wedding gowns sooner and with less stress! You should be checking some of the common wedding and bridal magazines and the internet. The more images of different styles that you see, the better idea you will have of what you want. This will also minimise the chance of pushy sales-people pushing you to buy a dress you're not totally in love with.

2. Give The Tailor Time - If you aren't buying a wedding dress of the peg (which is quite likely), then it will take time to alter and tailor it to your size. Therefore, with wedding date in mind, you should order your dress in good time for it to be ready and also have a buffer just in case nay further alterations need to be made before the big day!

3. Enjoy The Hunt - Buying wedding dresses can't be rushed, especially if you're looking for something that makes jaws drop! Why not get the girls involved and have a couple of dress-shopping excursions, or browse online at home with a couple of glasses of wine?

4. Don't Overspend If Money Is Tight - It's true that this dress will be one of the focal points of your wedding, but there's no need to rush to an expensive boutique and part with thousands of dollars just because it seems to be the done thing. You will find many beautiful and good value dresses online these days, so it may be worth spending that little bit less on the dress and sinking the savings into a fantastic honeymoon.

5. Have A Budget - In order to keep control and not have your wedding's costs spiral out of control you should keep a budget for everything, including the dress. If you are choosing a dress way out of your price-range then you will be disappointed, but if you already have a line drawn in the sand when it comes to cost then it will be easier to narrow down your options.

6. Celebrity Wedding Gowns Can Be Yours - Not a millionaire yet? Don't worry! If you search online you can very quickly find great replicas of famous celebrities' dresses. Kate Middleton's dress? It can be yours already! Check today.

7. Colour Me In - Choosing the right colour is crucial, but there are many factors to consider. Your complexion must fit with the colour you choose and you can generally say that the darker your complexion the darker colour you could choose. White will work for everyone! If you have themed wedding it goes without saying that the colour should fit the theme. It could also be nice to have a dress whose colour fits with the season you're marrying in, for example, a yellow, gold or orange dress for Autumn.

In general you can get answers for almost any wedding related question online, from friends or your tailor, but it's so important not to get bogged down with worrying about the details. Take your time and...enjoy finding your wedding dress. After all, your big day only happens once and so we should relish it and its preparations!

When searching for vintage wedding dresses it can be hard enough to find one that’s perfect and fits your wishes, but some curvy brides think it’s even harder due to their shape. We’re going to look at some tips here which show that this doesn’t need to be true:

Simple vintage wedding dresses are suitable for curvy brides, but many older wedding dresses are rather decorated right? So during your search here are some things to consider:
It would be best to choose straight line cut dresses as these will give curvy figures a nice profile. Some lacework is a good idea; and there should be some radius at the hem, but not too much. As for the bodice, low-cut is preferred. All of these elements make the dress not over-complicated and cumbersome looking which is important if you’ve got curves.

Arms, shoulders and legs

The right way: Adorn curvy arms and shoulders with sleeves of some description and brides may choose the flat collar style, both of which can help to disguise and draw the eye from big arms.

Cautions: Avoid tube dresses, barebacked dresses and short skirts. They may zoom in on arms and shoulders as well as reveal much more flesh which will sap your confidence.

Waist

The right way: High-waisted vintage wedding dresses are the ideal style for curvy brides. They should be neither too loose nor too tight. Still relatively hard materials are preferred, and do not use soft fabrics like cotton or linen. The waist line of the dress can be set between the waist and chest and in this way your tummy can be hidden under the skirt. Styles to look out for are certainly Empire and perhaps A-line if you can find any, although this is a more modern style.

Cautions: If you choose a decorated gown, then the decoration on the waist should be basic, such as simple stripes. Do avoid too many pleats, which will draw attention to your waist which won’t be welcome if you lack confidence in this area.

Hips

The right way: When selecting your gown you should avoid styles with a lot of volume in the skirt, as if your hips are already quite large then you need to limit extra bulk in that area. Do not wear vintage wedding dresses with skirts which are too fluffy. A-shaped skirts made of satin are preferred, as the simple line will give you a good shape rather than hugging your hips. It’s OK to get a gown with lace decoration (which is common vintage gowns), but still not too much. Plump figures don’t need extra decorations as this can make them look even plumper. The advantage of satin is that it has a good, flowing nature which will make the lines look straight and long.

Cautions: Avoid skirts made of linen or cascade skirts looking like multi-layer cakes because those will look minute and complicated and make figures bigger.

Other tips

1. Veils.

Veils usually go really well with vintage wedding dresses. Reaching the shoulders or a little longer than that, veils can help to conceal the thickness of shoulders and arms. So not only do they look lovely and classical, but they can also disguise areas that you aren’t so happy with.

2. Long hair.

Long hair can also make the same effect when hung down. It just buffers attention from others towards the arms and shoulders so that flesh won’t draw much attention.

3. Tight underwear.

Their magic is obvious. There’s a lot of underwear these days that can give support, so consider investing in this to boost your shape.

So generally speaking, if you want to conceal your curves you should choose a simple vintage wedding dress. Just avoid those with superfluous decoration and you will find a perfect vintage wedding dresses.

Most brides’ idea of their wedding day is to have their best girl-friends standing beside them, dressed in gorgeous, matching bridesmaid dresses and offering them all the support and love they’ll need on this very important day. However this might not be possible if your girls have very different shapes to each other. For instance, if one of them is petite and slim and another is tall and buxom, how are you going to accommodate both of them and still have matching dresses?

If you only choose one style of dress for your bridesmaids then you may find that they don’t really suit them! Granted, it may look good on one or two of the girls, but what about the others?

If this describes your wedding party then don’t worry, as there are a few solutions to this problem that will help you have a nice, matching wedding:

  1. Early on get into a local boutique with the girls if you can and try on a few different styles. This means that you’ll be able to pinpoint the kind of styles that are appropriate for their shapes. This should be free and fun! Then, with the results of your trip in mind, you can check in all kinds of stores, even online where you can save some money!
  1. Keep in mind necklines that will flatter different shapes. Necklines are important and you’ll find thatscoop, square and V necklines are flattering for most women. Halter and strapless necklines are good for showing off necks and arms.Busty girls may feel that it’s good to minimize their bust and so an off-shoulder or bateau dress would be good, whereas smaller busted girls may like to wear asweetheart or jewel neckline whichboost busts.
  1. In general, A-line and Empire waist dresses are great for most shapes as they don’t hug curves too much. Rather than being tight to the wearer’s body, they’ll flow elegantly down, skirting over their waist and hips and giving them a nice profile.
  1. If you’re insisting that your bridesmaids pay for their bridesmaid dresses then bear in mind that they may not be able to pay a high price for them. Try to keep the budget as low as possible whilst still getting dresses that you love.
  1. Don’t be a bridezilla! Give each of your girls a chance to make their own decision about their dress. By all means give them several ideas that you like, then perhaps if there is a disagreement over one style you can compromise and choose another.
  1. Alternatively, you could insist on a certain color and then let them choose whichever style they like. It’s actually not correct that different style dresses can’t still match, as in fact as long as they are in an identical color they actually will (although of course, they should share some basic features, such as short skirt).
  1. Give your bridesmaids plenty of time to prepare their hairstyle and accessories. If it’s far from their usual style then they will probably need the time to prepare and it also gives you time to hurry them along!

Someone once said that,“Your wedding dress is the most important dress that you will ever wear.” If this is true then vendors must know brides’ emotions and raise their prices accordingly, making it hard to find bargain wedding dresses.

If you are a bargain-hunter, but still want an amazing dress then what can you do? You need to do your homework before shopping. Let’s look at why here:

First of all let me say that it is possible to find a bargain wedding dress that you love, but it will take some effort.

You need to consider two things – finding a dress that is amazing because it makes you look perfect and lowering the price you pay as much as possible.

How To Find An Amazing Wedding Dress?

It’s hard to believe, but many women don’t know which style of dress actually flatters their shape. So the first part of your pre-dress homework is to find out your body shape. Once you know this you can feel assured to pick out a wedding gown that flatters your shape best and will make you look great.

There are 5 major wedding gown styles:

A-line/Princess
These are great because they suit almost every bride’s shape. The A-line dress gives you a good shape as it flows downwards in an ‘A shape.’ This style is strong at slimming your waist and enhancing your bust, so it’s good for pear and apple shapes.

It is a very simple and classical design and has become very popular as you can wear this style on any occasion, especially your wedding.

Empire
An empire dress has a raised waistline which is just below the bust and a skirt that falls in a straight line down past your hips. Like the A-line style, the empire dress is also one of the most versatile dresses and is brilliant if your trying to hide any lumps and bumps.

Column/Sheath
One of the slinkier dress styles, the column is fitted with a straight skirt. If you want to show off your figure this is a great choice, as it hugsyour body and highlights your curves. These are great for aslim bride, butdue to theirslinky nature column dressesaren’t a good choice for curvier brides. Also be aware that although you will look great, you will not be as mobile as in other dresses as columns are quite tight.

Ball Gown
Full skirted and by far the most traditional option, these epic dresses are often accessorized with a train and veil. Ball gowns are usually good for most shapes, but if you’re very petite you need to be careful not to get swamped in it (petite brides would be better served with an A-line dress).

Mermaid

If you’ve got that killer hourglass figure then this dress is for you as it’s tightly fitted to your body from chest to knee and picks out your defined waist. Not for the faint-hearted, this style is not flattering to brides who aren’t in tip-top shape.

OK, so you’ve found a dress that will flatter your shape and make you look great, but where do you find one at the right price?

Search Online For The Best Prices

If you haven’t tried it before then now is the time to shop online for wedding gowns as you will find by far the cheapest prices here. Since you already know which styles will flatter you best all that’s left to do is find the right sites.

You should be looking for sites that are clear, have good English, reply to your emails and offer secure payment options (such as credit card or PayPal).

Bear in mind that you will need to give yourself some time for delivery and since you can’t try the dress on in advance you need to give them your exact measurements.

Sounds like too much work? Remember, the rewards are there for brides who do their homework and find a good site as you’ll pick up a great-looking dress and save yourself hundreds of dollars in the process.

Rules of choosing bridesmaid dresses

Style of dresses: Low-profile, but elegant

Stylish but not blatantly eye-catching bridesmaid dresses that make people feel happy and in a festive mood are appropriate for bridesmaids. Generally the style should match the bride’s wedding gown, and this should be taken into account first of all. It is very popular to have strapless bridesmaid dresses these days as they are exquisite and stylish and more modern than bigger, frumpier dresses. In terms of accessories there could be a ribbon around the waist, or three layers of pleats on the skirt. If it’s a winter wedding then the dresses could be long ones. This also applies to more formal weddings too. However for more casual weddings or spring and summer weddings a shorter skirt is suitable and also gives the bridesmaids a fresh, more contemporary look.

Color of dresses: Pink or light colors

Pure white belongs to brides and pink to bridesmaids. Of course there are many possible colors for bridesmaid dresses, but pink is one of, if not, the most classic color for them. In terms of other options light blue, light green and champagne are also appropriate and look great on bridesmaids.

Just be sure to try a few different colors with the girls when choosing as the color can really help set off their respective skin tones (for instance, very pale girls will look washed out in very pale colors, but very strong colors will overpower them too, so choose warm, mid-palette colors like peach). If there are several bridesmaids, they can wear dresses of the same color but different styles. Actually even the color may not need to be exactly the same, and this makes every wedding individual and guests won’t feel bored when seeing them.

Cut and fabric of dresses: A-line or Empire

Besides color, the fabric and cut are as important because they decide the shaping of bridesmaid dresses. Sumptuous velvet, graceful chiffon, classical lace, or sleek satin; whichever fabric can really set off the figures and charm of the bridesmaids, as long as they are fittingly cut. What’s everyone’s favorite fabric? Perhaps consider this as a starting point.

Speaking of cut, bridesmaid dresses are generally tailored with an A-line or Empire style as both of these styles not only give women a very strict, nice profile, but are very forgiving for any figure. This is good as if you have more than one bridesmaid then there’s a good chance that they’ll have different figures, yet you’ll want their dresses to fit them well, hence choosing A-line or Empire styles.

In general formal weddings will require a long skirted dress, so bear in mind the tone of your wedding when choosing bridesmaid dresses as you need them to look appropriate.

Shoes: Ornate and comfortable

Shoes with sequins, pailettes and rhinestones were made for weddings! High-heels with these decorations are best match for the dresses discussed above. And since there is a lot of work and standing around for the brides and bridesmaids to do in the wedding, the shoes should be comfortable enough for the brides to wear for the whole wedding.

Let’s look at 2012’s current vogue style of vintage wedding dresses, especially those that you’ll be wearing in spring and summer. Brides, be ready to get inspired:

Light, Airy Dresses

Spring and summer 2012 promise vintage wedding dresses which are mainly light and ventilated.

By vintage it’s important to bear in mind that these dresses aren’t necessarily old, but have an old-fashioned style. If brides are wearing thick and heavy dresses in these seasons, no matter how cool air-conditioners will make the environment, they could feel extremely uncomfortable due to the heat!

To make light dresses there are a lot of other materials other than true silk and chiffon that are commonly known as the main fabric, such as satin, smooth taffeta and lace that are usually used to make decorations, etc. When we talk about vintage wedding dresses in spring and summer, lace actually is one of the best materials to serve as the main fabric, because it carries the sense of being soft and light as well as the sense of being classical and elegant.

Decorated Dresses

Shining crystals will be adopted to decorate vintage wedding dresses. So by choosing this style of dress you can accentuate your own beauty! Crystal can be embellished on the waistline or the bodice, and then also scattered along the skirt. It is sure to attract attention and cause envy and it will absolutely become a talking point. And what’s more, the transparency of crystal can make the dresses look refreshing and the visual effect will be like a cool breeze to those who enjoy seeing it. This is great for the warm spring and summer.

Decoration on vintage wedding dresses is quite common and if you don’t fancy crystals then it’s ok. There are other decorations like rhinestones, graceful lace and exquisite embroidery are also widely applied to make the dresses as gorgeous as they can be.

Pleats are requisite elements for vintage wedding dresses too. They can form various details that can make a romantic look and create a buoyant feeling. Nice cascade pleats plus lithe fabric and barebacked designing are the three elements that can create an Aphrodite ‘look’. And since it’s in spring and summer and dresses are thin, the waist line, as one of the most important parts for a dress, is well designed to adorn brides’ figures.

Tips For Choosing A Dress

And then there is a little tip on choosing vintage wedding dresses in spring and summer. It is important to choose an appropriate style according to the venue where your holding the ceremony. For example, if it’s held in a traditional church, it would be better to have venerable and gorgeous dresses. And then you need to try on several dresses for one style. After all, every designer has his or her own fondness of material and way of cut. Spring and summer are good seasons for barebacked style, and do not just give up when you find the first barebacked dress doesn’t suit you that well. You may get surprises if you try on some more.

What Are Mother Of The Bride Dresses And How Do I Choose A Flattering one?

Moms of brides always have one thing in common, the swelling pride you feel when your daughter, dressed in her wedding gown and looking perfect, is walking down the aisle to marry her dream guy; but you should also look your best by choosing flattering, lovely, mother of the bride dresses. Although the wedding dress has a big impact on the guests, you shouldn’t forget that you too are in the spotlight that day and so looking good is important.

Did you know that most dress stores have a whole range of mother of the bride dresses that are especially suited to the slightly more mature lady?

When I say mature, don’t panic! I know this dreaded word conjures up images of frumpy, shapeless frocks that are seemingly just made to cover you up and have you blend into the background, but rather here I mean dresses that play to your strengths and actively help you to look and feel amazing!

The great thing is that you can also have some fun looking for a beautiful new dress with your daughter and her friends, so it gives you a great chance to really feel like you’re a part of the wedding and bond with the girls.

Style

If you’re like most slightly older women then you may well have some curves that you’re not so keen on, so the key to finding mother of the bride dresses in a style that’s flattering is to identify your strengths and weaknesses and then choose a dress that flatters or plays them down.

If you are carrying some extra baggage then where is it? You’re probably going to be apple or pear shaped. In the case of apples your extra weight is around your tummy, and pears hold it on their hips and thighs.

Luckily most mother of the bride dresses are in styles that are flattering for apple and pear shapes, namely A-line and Empire cuts.

These two cuts both have quite high waistlines which gives them the benefit of a skirt that flows down just brushing your hips rather than hugging them. So rather than being snug and making you feel constricted and uncomfortable, these dresses at once both look feminine, yet flattering.

Pear and apple shapes will also benefit from balancing out their shape, so for this you need to add some focus to your top half with a suitable neckline and perhaps a bolero jacket or shawl. A scoop or square neckline is always flattering no matter your shape.

You see, if you add more to your top half then it will give you a more balanced figure and you’ll look better.

Many mother of the bride dresses also feature short sleeves that cover a multitude of sins, especially if you’re not keen on your arms!

Color

Much like bridesmaids, you’ll need to take your cue from the color/s that your daughter has chosen to be the ‘theme’ of her wedding. You’re still a part of the bridal party, so it’ll be wise to at least partly match if for no other reason than for posterity in the numerous pictures that’ll be taken.

A very lovely idea is to choose the same color as the bridesmaid dresses, but a few shades darker or lighter. Hence if they’ve chosen pink, then you could choose a very light rose color, or go darker and choose a red or crimson.

On your wedding day the lingerie that you wear tends to get overshadowed by your wedding dress, but in fact this is the right and appropriate time to wear some really hot lingerie! Most busy women don’t have to time to wear hot lingerie on a daily basis, so on this one very special day it’s a good opportunity to try it out for once. Your new husband will also love it! Imagine his eyes when you slip out of your beautiful wedding dress and are wearing really sexy, white lingerie beneath it?

If you’ve taken great care to match your wedding dress, bridesmaid dresses and wedding theme, then it also makes sense to wear some special hot bridal lingerie. The good thing about bridal lingerie is that it will offer superior shaping, support and comfort over a lot of regular hot lingerie which is important on a long wedding day. It also matches wedding dresses well though, and as with all lingerie, if you feel sexy, you feel good!

It is important to match your lingerie with your wedding dress as well as your shape and some of the best options are white corsets and bustiers which will generally be invisible under the gown’s corset. Choosing bridal hot lingerie without straps is doubly important given the modern vogue for strapless wedding gowns.

Bras for a strapless or off-the-shoulder wedding dress
If you are wearing a strapless or off-the-shoulder wedding gown then you should pay attention to your choice of bra. Strapless bras will always be a nice, unobtrusive option, but can suffer from lack of support; especially if you’re a larger busted bride! You could therefore consider a bustier, which is also strapless but has in-built cups to offer a lot of support and cleavage. As they also cover your midriff they will additionally offer a bit of a slimming effect which many brides like.

Bras for a backless wedding dress
This is a tricky dress to cater for bra-wise. Really you’re going to need an adhesive, or sticky bra. Brides with smaller to medium busts (A to C) will benefit from a nu-bra which is a stick on silicon cup which offers totally invisible support. If you’re bigger though you run the risk of falling out of this kind of bra, so your option would be a strapless bra which hooks along your waist.

Panties
Of course comfort is paramount here. If you wouldn’t usually wear a thong, then don’t start today as you’ll feel uncomfortable! Luckily there are a lot of types of hot lingerie, especially panties, which are both invisible and comfortable.
If you’re body-conscious then you may also consider body-shaping underwear like spanx, as these will actually suck in your tummy and bottom, giving yo a good, VPL free shape (but be warned, these may not always look sexy).

Tights and garter
It’s traditional to wear a garter, so why not wear tights and garters? Of course white is appropriate as with all hot lingerie worn on a wedding day.
Just make sure that your garter isn’t going to bulge and show beneath your dress and that your tights aren’t too constricting as they may cut into your legs during a long day!
