His Story photo 1  His Story photo 2

Janeth and I both went to South Gate High School. I was already a senior when she was a freshwoman, and I had seen her around school once in a while. Flashforward to late 2003 when she and I were now both attending Cal Poly Pomona. One day during school I was walking out on the student quad towards the cafeteria and I saw a co-worker friend from the greenhouse (Biotrek) where I worked. As I walked towards her I saw she was standing next to a very beautiful girl. I mean, from the moment I layed eyes on her she astonished me. It's one of those moments frozen in time, you never forget. Janeth was standing there kind of glancing over her left shoulder looking out over the student quad.

I approached them and said Hello. My very first words ever to Janeth went something like, "Hey, did you go to South Gate High School?" Janeth, kind of gave me a half look and said "Yes" and did not say anything else. I then had a short conversation with my co-worker continued along my day after that. Now, its true that the first time I met Janeth she was very short with me, and to this day she says that she does not remember this initial encounter. She says that she was probably having a rough day and was also likely deep in thought about something. She apologizes to me all the time about not remembering and I forgive her :-)

Some time went by until I ever saw Janeth again. One day I am at work and see that the new student workers are getting a tour of the greenhouse. I look into the crowd and I see that Janeth is in the group. I immediately remembered her and I thought to myself, "She's coming to work here?, Alright!"

Now its around Spring of 2004 and I began to see Janeth around more. On a Special project-type day at the greenhouse when all the student workers had to attent, Janeth and I ended up in the same group that day. That is the day that Janeth remembers as our intial encounter. We ended up hitting it off that very day and every time we met after that we always had pretty good chemistry. When summer 2004 came around is when I began to make my moves and she couldn't resist :-), it was then that we started dating.

My Story photo 1My Story photo 2

Meeting Ramon was an act of fate... I once read that most people meet the love of their lives way before ever coming in contact with them. This appeared to be true for us. Let me explain. Both Ramon and I grew up in the beautiful city of South Gate. We literally lived a couple of blocks away from each other, shopped at the same stores, went to the same park as kids and of course, went to the same schools. I can’t stop thinking that we might have crossed each other at one point without even knowing it. It wasn’t until I met Ramon that I started to put all of the pieces of my life together. As clichéd as it may sound, Ramon is the most important piece of my life’s puzzle. Now that we both look back we realized that we had been part of each others lives way before we ever met in college. Meeting Ramon was more than a coincidence, it was fate.

Going back a few years when it all began… I had just started Cal Poly and it was the beginning of a lot of new things for me. Now of course Ramon always tells me our first encounter was at the student quad, so our stories might be a little different.

It was the beginning of 2004; I had just gotten hired as a student worker for the greenhouse. Our first encounter was not really formal because we never really had an official introduction. I would run into Ramon now and then but at the time he was just a guy working at the greenhouse. All I really remember from working with him was that he was really funny. It wasn’t until we were assigned to work together on one of those days that the greenhouse had a special event that required the entire student workers to work at the same time. We were paired up and from that day we became really good friends. We realized we had a lot of things in common. It wasn’t until he shared with me his passion for my favorite band “Mana” that I started to realize he was going to be a very special person in my life. I don’t really remember how he asked me to be his girlfriend but the only memory that I will always hold close to my heart was when he first told me he loved me. It was on a day when we had just had lunch together and he dropped me off at the Village (Student Apartments) and had gone back to South Gate. He called me that same night and started talking about weird stuff. I could tell he was leading to something… he was telling me that he had been experiencing stomach pain every time he saw me or thought of me and it was then that he told me that his stomach pain was because he loved me. All is history from that day.

Ramon s Proposal
Story photo 1 Ramon s Proposal Story photo 2

I took this picture with my camera phone : ) it's the first picture of my ring. I couldn't ask for anything better. I love my ring, at times all I do is look at it and day dream about my wedding. It's so elegant and sparkly

I had bought the ring early April 2009, though I was not sure when exactly to propose. I had thought about wanting to propose somewhere special for both of us. Janet had always told me, “I hope you don’t do it at an La Kings game because that will be too selfish because that’s your fantasy and the Kings game will be for you” or something like thatJ  She would also say she would like for it to be somewhere public. Also I had to figure out on what date to do it. Janet can be a little superstitious and picky, so I knew there are certain numbers she does not like. My favorite number is 9, and hers is 7, but those days had already passed on the calendar. This was now the week leading up to Saturday April 18th. I thought, ok, the number 18 does not have any significance for the both of us, so I will do it on that day because I will have the whole day to plan a special day and make 18 a “new” special number for us.

On Friday the 17th I got to thinking, what better place to propose to Janet than where she and I met, the Cal Poly Greenhouse! On that day we had arranged to meet a realtor to look at a house in Covina. I, and the ring, left my home. As I was driving there from South Gate, the ring began to burn a hole in my pocket, and I just couldn’t concentrate anymore, all I wanted to do was to take her to the Cal Poly and propose to her right away! As we left the realtor meeting I just could not wait any longer. We were driving N/b on Grand Av towards Janet’s residence and I couldn’t take it anymore. I then initiated a u-turn and began to drive S/B. The closer I got to Cal Poly the more nervous I began to get. We arrived at Cal Poly and Janet can tell you what happened after that J

Janeth's Proposal Story

Ramon and I had just started house hunting together and were scheduled to see a house that Friday after I got off work. I already knew he had the ring because he accidentally told me one day but I knew he wasn’t going to give it up that easy. Ramon is a funny guy and I knew he was going to tease me as much as he could before giving it to me. We had just taken a Vacation to New York earlier in April and the whole time we were there I thought he would propose. Every night we went to dinner I got exited only to get disappointed when we got back to the Hotel. As our last day approached in New York I had just lost hope and figured he would propose to me when he was ready. When we got back to LA I started to think less and less about him proposing mainly because I was so concentrated in finding a house. Never did I think he would propose to me that Friday after work mostly because we had no dinner plans or even plans to go out that Friday.  After leaving our Realtors, Ramon started driving us back to my house and all of a sudden he makes a u-turn and starts driving away! Right away I told him “where are you going” and he started getting more and more nervous I didn’t know what the heck was going on… I was tired exhausted and just wanted to go home and rest. It never crossed my mind he would propose that Friday! As soon as he made that left turn towards Cal Poly I felt this rush of excitement, nervousness and happiness all at once. I was trying to talk to him but he just kept telling me not to say anything. His face was full of sweat and all of a sudden he started crying! He started talking to me about how much he loved me and how happy he was to have me in his life. I was too exited to cry and as soon as he parked outside the green house I got off the car as he played one of our Favorite Songs “El Presente” By Julieta Venegas. He held my hand as we walked towards the Ethno Botany where we first saw each other for the first time. He got on one knee and asked me to marry him. Everything happened so fast all I remember was leaning down to hold him, hug him and kiss him. I didn’t even look at the ring until it all had happened. I started jumping up and down and kept hugging him… I started telling everyone I saw that day we had just gotten engaged. It was a very happy day that I will never forget

After weeks of trying to get married at a Catholic Church and realizing how much of a burden it was becoming we both decided not to go the Catholic route because it was really taking the fun and excitement from planning our wedding. Ramon is not Catholic and the Church was just really making it hard for us!  It was then when we decided we would have both our Ceremony and Reception at the same location and try to find a venue that offered both! Our search began and little did we know we would fall in love with the Castaway in Burbank. It was everything we ever dreamed of a beautiful Gazebo overlooking the San Fernando Mountains and little did we know they would offer the perfect size reception room with the most beautiful hilltop view.

After weeks and weeks of looking and having trouble

After months and months of looking I found my dream wedding dress. I am so exited It’s everything I wanted and dreamed of; I knew it was the one the moment I saw it!! As many of you girls know I had a hard time saying yes to a Wedding Dress. But I went to a bridal boutique (Village Bridal) and found the most beautiful Mori Lee dress : ) and I didn’t even hesitate to buy it : ) when I tried it on! I can’t wait to wear it I keep having dreams about it. I am just so exited : ) It's simple chic and makes me feel like a princess. (Excuse my ugly hair and makeup)

Wedding Dress Update:

I am not sure how to tell without being embarrassed but my wedding dress has changed. Unfortunately my original wedding dress did not fit me it was horribleL I was devastated after they told me they wouldn’t be able to take it out. I felt like I was living the worse nightmare; but I feel that everything happens for a reason. I found a more beautiful and elaborate dress and the store took the original dress in exchange and I had a pay a difference. I didn’t want to be stress about losing weight with the wedding so close. I already had a bad feeling because I noticed a weight gain after in the past few months. I've been under so much stress with the wedding the new house so much going on. I just wanted to share this private story with my PW friends because I wanted you to give me your opinion about the new dress

I wanted to give my girls the option of selecting their own bridesmaid dress as long as they were all the same color and material and knee length. My bridesmaids all have different styles and we decided that we would have Denise my Maid of Honor and My little Sister in Fuchsia Pink See Dress No. 1 and all the other girls in Purple See Dress No. 2. Below are all of the styles the girls selected. The dresses will be in Fuchsia Pink (Dress No. 1) and Purple (Dress No. 2) but they will all be wearing a different style of dress. Here are all of the 5 options :)
