On Friday, November 14, I was getting ready to leave work when my mom stopped me from getting in the car. (My mom and I work together.) She told me one of the attorney's where I work needed to talk to me before I left. When I went into her office, Derrick was standing there. He said that he wanted to surprise me and take me to dinner. So we had dinner at Applebee's near work and when we were finished I figured we would head home to watch some movies. Derrick had other plans. He told me that he was surprising me with a trip to Wellsboro, PA, home of the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. I was so excited because it was the fall and I love doing things outside in the fall. This was the perfect surprise. We headed to Wellsboro, checked into our hotel and rested for the next day of hiking.
When we woke up the next day, it was downpouring! I didn't want that to stop us so we decided to go hiking anyway. By 11:00 a.m., we were soaking wet and decided to call it a day. We started to head home and this is when Derrick started to stall. We stopped in Williamsport to eat wings. (And they were only playing the Penn State game, not Notre Dame, so I was annoyed.) Anyway, Derrick also stalled by taking me to Lowe's and stopping at other various places on the way home. (He even stopped to get gas but he had half a tank!) It took us 5 hours to make a 3 hour trip. Needless to say, I was tired and just wanted to get home.
When we were almost in our neighborhood, Derrick got a "phone call" from our neighbor saying one of my Christmas packages was on the front porch and if I came home, I would see it. Derrick told me I had to put on a blindfold because if we pulled up, my Christmas surprise would be ruined. At this point, I didn't care what he wanted me to do, I just wanted to get home. So, I put the blindfold on.
When we pulled up to the house, he guided me inside and when I got in the house, he finally told me I could take the blindfold off. When I did, I had about 35-40 of our closest family and friends standing directly in front of me. After being scared to death and asking what's going on, Derrick got on one knee and asked me to marry him.
