My fiance, Mike, and I met in 2005 after I had graduated college and finished an internship. I started working as a event and banquet manager at a restaurant where he was the bar manager. It was actually a place that I worked all through high school and when I came home from college on breaks. Mike had also worked for the same company, but a different location, during the same time period and we never met. We were friends for a few monthes and it soon became much more.
I knew we would be getting engaged soon ( I thought by the end of 2008) but Mike totally surprised me on April 18th. He had called me at work during the day and said that his brother had asked us to babysit their two kids that night and the next morning. Mike asked that I call him on my way home from work so he could tell his brother when to drop the kids off. Being totally oblivious to anything I called Mike on my way home and looked forward to a night with my two favorite kids. As I pulled into our condo I noticed the shades were closed in the kitchen...'Weird!' I thought to myself, I never close the shades in the kitchen. I wrote it off to Mike probably broke something and didn't want me to freak out when I pulled in. When I opened the door to our condo I was shocked, everywhere you looked there were rose petals, vases of flowers and candles. I immediately thought that it looked like the epdisode of friends were Monica proposes to Chandler and vice versa. I gasped and called Mikes name. He was waiting for me with the ring and asked and through tears, laughter and the typical 'are you serious?' questions.
We will be married on September 19, 2009 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The theme of our wedding is family. We are using photos of Mike and I as part of our table numbers and we have a table with pictures of old family weddings going back four generations. This theme will also be played up with our name cards, and with the photo booth that we will have for guests to use.
After we went to dinner at my favorite restaurant in Milwaukee, The Pasta Tree, we started to drive home. I randomly made the suggestion that we should call his best friend Scott, who helped him plan the engagement so that I could thank him. To get all the supplies Mike need he had Scott go with him to Jo-Ann Fabrics because he knew he would be lost once he got in there. So they split up and each had a checklist of items to find. Just picturing two guys running around Jo-Ann Fabrics trying to buy rose petals and candles made me laugh so I knew I had to thank Scott. Mike said that Scott was having drinks at one of our favorite bars, maybe we should go meet him for a drink. THIS WAS MY SUGGESTION, OR SO I THOUGHT. We walked in and I couldn't see Scott sitting at the bar, Mike kept saying "he is in the back, don't you see him, keep walking." As we approached the back of the restaurant I saw all of my friends and family in one of their private party rooms. Surprise! I love Mike. I think the best part of the story is that I TOTALLY thought that going to meet Scott at the restaurant was MY IDEA. I asked Mike later how he was planning on getting me there had I not suggested it, his reply was, "I had no clue, I had spent so much time and energy planning the engagement and sneaking into your phone and email to get everyones contact info to get them to the restaurant that I didn't think about how to get you there!" It was just meant to be.
I love love love my engagement ring. FI did such an amazing job. Totally my style. I get compliment every day from random people! It is a Leo Ingwer design. This picture show it with one wedding band. FI bought two bands, one for the top and bottom. He says I will get one for the wedding and one for our 1st anniversary. I'm trying to get both on Sept 19! :)
FI wanted a really simple band and liked the darker metal of a titanium band. I think it is simple and classic.
We are getting married on September 19, 2009 at St. Monica's Chuch in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. It is a gorgeous, huge, old church with a lot of character. I'm a little scared about the actual walk down the aisle as it is 151 feet long!
The ceremony will take place at the Italian Conference Center in Milwaukee. My family is Italian and so this place has very important meaning to my family. Not to mention that the food is amazing! We are planning on 250 people at the dinner and reception. We have six couple standing up with us and they range from family to friends, a ring bearer and flower girl and two ushers.

Florist: Twins Floral
DJ: All Star Music-Craig
Photobooth: Party Picture Booth
My Dress: Marisa 796 in ivory with white lace, I adore my dress. It is not something that I would have ever picked out for myself but Kira at Zita's Bridal was amazing and said that I had to try it on, it would look better on me than the hanger. She was right, I didn't want to take it off.
My Shoes: Manolo Blahnik-Svelti Nappa Silver
Bridesmaid Dresses: Dessy and After Six in Clover with Ivory accent-there are four different styles the girls can choose from.
Invitations are being done by a friend who is a very talented graphic designer.
I am creating our table numbers, rehearsal dinner invites, name cards and some other small things. I am also in search of 10 16" (about) tall glass cylinder vases for my floral arrangements and 15 round bowls/vases about 5-6" tall.
We took our engagement pictures in early October, on a gorgeous Indian Summer day. The pictures were taken at Lake Park in downtown Milwaukee overlooking Lake Michigan. We will also take some of our wedding photos there. Our photographer is Caitlyn Jeffrey from Expressive Photography. She is FANTASTIC! Here are some of my favorites.
I am insanely obsessive about my hair. My mother is a hair dresser and it has been drilled into me the importance of how your hair looks. I know I want my hair out of my face in a low bun, sort of messy but chic and pulled to one side (decided after the trial). Tucked into the side of the bun I am having a large magnolia flower. I am not having a veil. Christina from Color Tube in New Berlin, Wisconsin is doing my hair since my mom said she will be too nervous that day.
To play off of our family pictures theme our table numbers are my FI and I doing the same (or similar) things. They are pretty simple but incorporate the colors we are using, green, white and black.
I'm obsessed with my shoes! They were the first thing I bought for the wedding. I'm having issues loading the picture but I'll get it up here eventually.

Here are some photos of of my dress. This was the first time I tried it on since it came in. It is Marisa 796. Ignore the pasty white Wisconsin skin, the bra strap and the extra lbs! Has to be taken in the bust (of course) a couple layers of crinoline taken out, and the hem has to be taken up a couple inches. But I love her!
I am having six bridesmaids, my sister is my MOH, FI's two sister-in-laws, college roomie, and two good friends from growing up. I really want them to be comfortable with the way they look and so I gave them the option of choosing from four different dresses. The dress are all by Dessy or After 6. The main color with be clover and the band/trim will be ivory.
We are renting our tuxes from Men's Warehouse since FI friends and family are located all over the state it makes it easier since their are locations everywhere.
They all have the same tux (Calvin Klein two- button super 100's notch lapel):
but are wearing different color vests (style Rio), FI and ring bearer are in ivory, dads are in black and groomsment in platinum.
These are the inspirations for our centerpieces 10 tables will be the tall centerpieces and 15 will be the lows.
I love fun summer dresses so this was a really fun part. We are having two showers. One traditional shower and one couples shower. Not sure yet which dress I should wear to which shower.
This dress is by XOXO at Macy's. This will be a great dress for the honeymoon too!
This dress is from Charlotte Russe, great deal and really cute!
This is our cake inspiration:
Ours will only be three tiers. The main color will be white with black and green accents. The flavors are red velvet with cream cheese filling, lemon with raspberry, hazelnut with mocha.
I am so excited for our Honeymoon. We have never done a total relax vacation together, all the other trips we have done have been high energy and lots of sightseeing.
We are leaving the Monday after the wedding and going to Cabo San Lucas. We are staying seven nights at the RIU Santa Fe. I looks incredible. Most important thing for me was a large pool and spa, and FI just wants a swim up bar.
I can't wait.
Here are some items that I am trying to sell now that our wedding is over. PM me if you are interested in any of them!
These are our tall centerpieces you can see that we had 4-5 hanging votives on each table with a tall centerpiece.
Below are the vases we used for our low centerpieces.
