My fiance and I met randomly in Singapore. I arrived there at the start of a four week trip to Asia Pacific and he was in Singapore on his way to Australia. We were both staying at the same hostel and met my first night there. After a few days together in Singapore, we re-routed our trips to spend as much time together as possible. I went back to London and he stayed in Australia, and we did the long distance thing for awhile before I moved to Sydney at the end of 2005.
Two weeks after we celebrated our second year in Sydney together, my FI suggested we go for lunch and then the beach on Saturday. Saturday arrived and it was raining so I asked him if we should just stay in instead. He suggested we still go
for lunch and said it was a new place he'd heard of not far from our house. We got ready and headed down to the bay where "the restaurant" was meant to be. Once we got there he admitted that we were going on a sea plane to have lunch up the
coast. This should have given me an inkling of what was to come but he said that it was to properly celebrate our two years of living together. The year before he'd surprised me with a boat cruise so it wasn't a stretch for me to believe him. To cut
a long story short, we had a great flight up the coast with amazing views of the Sydney harbour and he proposed after lunch. I said yes (though he claims I paused for a few seconds) and we spent the rest of the day celebrating. Without me knowing,
he'd made reservations for dinner at a place we went to on our first trip to Sydney together and then surprised me with front row tickets to see an Australian singer that I really like.
The proposal more than made up for the wait. ;)
We'll be married on 17 April 2009 at the Chapel of our Lady in the Presidio. The reception will be held at the Golden Gate Club.
We considered some of the hotels in the area but we loved the chapel and the views from the GGC. We
also liked the idea of bringing in our own caterer and really being able to customise everything.
We still need to finalise a number of vendors but we're really excited about the ones we've picked so far:
Catering - Thomas John Events
Flowers - Huckleberry Karen
Photography - Wendy Yalom
DJ - DJ Dave Tutton
DOC - Dream a Little Dream Events
Cake - Cake Coquette
Still need to finalise plans for transport...
I have three bridesmaids including my sister, my best friend from college and my best friend that I lived with when I was in London.
All three girls will look lovely in the Dessy dress below. The one in the pic is mint I think but ours will be a slightly darker shade of green with an even darker green sash.
Our flower girl will be FI's niece. FG dress still TBD..
