We're huge fans of the comedy Scrubs. A few years ago, in the episode where Turk proposes to Carla, JD
(Turk’s best friend) ran around them with sparklers after Carla says “Yes” (see video here -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SDUK_h_jxxQ). Since then, we've always had a running joke between us of his best friend dancing around us with
sparklers after he proposes :)
To cut a long story short - he planned an elaborate ruse to get me to the rooftop of the Hotel Vitale in San Francisco one night in July. When we got to the roof, his best friend was standing there, sparklers in
hand, next to the set up in the picture above.
The night couldn't have been more perfect - no fog, a crystal clear view of the Bay Bridge and the bay, no windy San Francisco breeze. He sat down, picked up his guitar and started serenading me
with the song “Crazy for this Girl” – a song he once said reminded him of me. In the few years he's been playing guitar, this was the first time I’d ever heard him sing and play at the same time! The whole time he was singing, his friend
danced around us with the sparklers... I was alternating between tears and laughter, trying my best to concentrate on him but distracted by the dancing sparklers :)
Once he finished his song, he got down on one knee, rolled up his pant leg,
untucked the ring box from his sock, and said the magic words – “Will you marry me?” In the midst of my tears and laughter, I yelled "Of course!"
And now here we are, planning our big day :)

he had it custom made by Edward's Jewelry (at the SF Jewelry Mart), after a Daniel K ring that I fell in love with last year.
