Hi PW! I am Debbie, and my husband is Terrell. We got married on May 28, 2011, in San Antonio, TX!
I am so honored to serve our awesome community as a PW hostess. I am always happy to chat with anyone or answer any questions, so don't ever hesitate to reach out to me!
Certain parts of my page are private, since I prefer to share it only with active PW members. Please add me as a friend if you want to share ideas and inspirations. I love, love, love looking at everyone's bios! Happy planning! :-)
Thanks for checking out my bio!
Our wedding day was absolutely perfect, and our photographer (Caitlin's Creations) captured every important detail and moment!
I am having some technical difficulties moving pages within my bio, so my pro pic sections are at the bottom of my bio. Hope you like them!
Here is the link to my recap and some non-pro photos, if you are interested!

Our story is kind of funny...believe it or not, our relationship was facilitated by our MOMS! It's funny, because (like most of us), I have rolled my eyes at pretty much everyone my mom has ever liked for me since I was in middle school. Anyway, my mom started a new job in the fall of 2008, and soon after, she started talking about a new co-worker named Sheila. One night I met Sheila at a happy hour, and she talked a lot about her son. She and my mom joked that we should try to meet up, because we might like each other. I laughed it off, and didn't think anything of it. In November 2008, a friend took me to Chili's for a late birthday lunch. While we were there, we saw Sheila eating with a cute young man. She introduced me to him: her son, Terrell. I thought he was cute, but still didn't think much of it beyond that. A couple months later, we all met up again for happy hour -- and this time, Terrell came too. We didn't talk much, but the wheels were in motion :-) About a month later, I was with "the moms", and they asked me to send Terrell a text to say hello. It's not like me at all to do something like that, but I indulged the moms. He texted back, and asked if he could keep my phone number to call me sometime. I remember thinking at the time that it was such a simple request, but so sweet and sincere. A few days later, he asked me if I wanted to go out that weekend -- on Valentine's Day. It was a bold choice for a first date! Especially since right before he asked me out, I had gone on a mini-rant about how Valentine's Day was kind of silly. Apparently that didn't deter him! The funniest part of our first date is that he finished his dinner and the waitstaff cleared his plate before I taken five bites of my dinner. He was horrified, but I actually thought it was pretty funny. After that, we started spending a lot of time together...and as they say, the rest is history! In the last year and a half, T and I have gone through so much together. He joined the Air Force shortly after we started dating, and we have survived basic training (with some old-fashioned, romantic handwritten letters), tech school and living on opposite ends of the country. With each phase, we somehow find ways to pull together and come out stronger on the other side. He proposed to me on February 18, 2010, and we are getting married on May 28, 2011. I can't wait to spend my life with T -- my partner and best friend!
Terrell proposed to me on February 18, 2010. I flew to see him in South Carolina for our monthly visit, which was right after our first anniversary. He had been telling me all day that his stomach was a little upset, but I figured it was the normal jitters before we saw each other. He picked me up and asked me if we could just pick something up for dinner and go straight to the hotel. I agreed, and when we got to the hotel room, there were rose petals and candles everywhere. There was also some spa stuff laid out -- a robe and slippers, bubble bath, massage oils, etc. He told me that he was going to pamper me for the evening! I was surprised, and jokingly asked him if if he was going to do this every year for our anniversary. He is a very outdoorsy, sporty guy, so this whole scene blew me away. Yet it never occurred to me what was happening. Midway through my "spa session", he asked me to check out the surprise dessert he had gotten me. I opened up the box, but I didn't really look inside. I could smell that it was the heavenly red velvet cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory! LOL I had been telling him about it for a couple months, and he told me he drove 1.5 hours to the nearest CF to get it! But for whatever reason, I didn't really look at the cake. When I turned back around from the fridge, he was down on his knee. I don't remember anything that he said, except for "Will you marry me?" At that point, I seriously choked in the moment. I must have looked confused, because he said, "Did you look at the cake?" I opened the box back up, and the ring was sitting on top!! Of course, I said yes, but I had a million things running through my head! I really think it took a couple days for the shock to wear off. He had been telling me for awhile that it would be a long time before he proposed, because he wanted to wait until he could afford the ring. So I was not expecting the proposal to happen for several more months. But unbeknownst to me, he had already talked to my parents and my brother. Everyone knew it was coming but me! Those phone calls were so fun to make! (I am like a kid sometimes, because I want to hear the same story over and over...I will say to T, "Tell me about when you called my family, again?") A couple days after the proposal, I missed my flight to go home. In my rambling to the guy at the ticket counter, I blurted out, "I just got engaged!" And he said, "Soooo...this guy proposed and then dropped you off at the airport?" LOL!! He was very nice, and set me up on another flight the next day for no charge. I considered that an engagement miracle since the airlines don't do anything for free anymore! My new fiance took me to get my nails done ("since everyone will be looking at your hands for the next several days!") And, in one of his favorite moments, we took my ring to a jewelry store at the mall to get it cleaned before I came home. The lady asked why we wanted to get it cleaned when he had recently bought it. He replied, "Well, it was in a cake." Oh, the SQUEALS from the employees and customers made his little chest puff out!!! They all gathered 'round to hear the ol' proposal story...he LOVED that! LOL He is so funny, generous and thoughtful and I'm so excited to be marrying him!
Here are our engagement pics, courtesy of Laura Pearson with Pearly Pics Photography. We took them on May 29th, 2010. We were her first "real" couple to shoot, and we think she did an awesome job! It was hard for us to pick one favorite, but here are several we love! Hope you like them!!
Our colors are coral and ivory, with shades of metallics.
Some of the things I <3 ...
roses, candles, luminaries, paper lanterns, lush bouquets, peonies, chalkboards, handmade signs, petals on an aisle, fan programs, moss letters, clotheslines, anything outdoors!
**PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF I AM USING ONE OF YOUR PHOTOS, SO THAT I CAN GIVE YOU OR THE PHOTOGRAPHER PROPER CREDIT.**

Our ceremony and reception were held at Spring Hill Event Center. It is located in far north San Antonio, in the hill country. It is just far enough away that it feels removed from the city, but not too far to be inconvenient for guests. I kept telling people that I wanted it to feel like a backyard wedding...only not in a backyard. LOL (Mostly bc I don't have one!) We wanted to host a great party, and it kind of feels like a big party house. You walk into the ballroom first, which leads out onto the veranda and cabana-type bar. Then that leads out into the "backyard", where the ceremony took place. We had the ceremony outdoors, went inside for dinner, and then came back outside for dancing!
View of the back. The ceremony took place in front of this fountain.

The DJ was set up under this gazebo! It was absolutely magical dancing under the stars! :-)

I have not found a dress twin on PW! If you are out there, please let me know!!
I am wearing an ivory Galina Signature gown from David's Bridal: SWG9905
This is how it is described on the website:
Sleek and ultra-sophisticated, this gorgeous gown has it all. Dramatic silhouette, artfully embellished asymmetrical ruffles, and a cascading ruffle back. Designed in sumptuous satin, the strapless trumpet gown also features modern beading detail at the neckline. Sweep train.
Here are the models:
Pics of me in the gown:
I just love the back!
This isn't the style of dress that I thought I would get! For some reason, I was convinced that I didn't want satin! But I just loved the way this one looked vintage and modern at the same time. I ordered the petite size, so it is about 4" shorter than the one here. The length is perfect with my shoes, so I won't need the hem altered! But I will need it taken in a bit up top. And I need to grow a few cup sizes, so I am on the hunt for cups to sew in and/or a great bra!
*************
Update: I decided to go with a French bustle on my dress, to maintain the ruffle as much as possible!

***Makeup Inspirations***
I have four bridesmaids (including one MOH). Since the ceremony and reception will be outside in the near-
summertime, I wanted them to wear something short and not too formal. I love the dresses from the Fall 2010 J. Crew line. I
adore all things J. Crew, and would really like for my friends to be able to wear their dresses again. Each girl selected the dress she liked, in the shade of aluminum. We will be pairing these gray dresses with bright coral flowers! Fun
earrings/bracelets and maybe colored shoes will complete the look. I am SUPER excited about my BM dresses, and I know my friends will look amazing!
These are their choices!
MOH:
Three BMs:
***JUNIOR BRIDESMAID***
My 12-year-old cousin will be a junior bridesmaid. I keep visualizing different versions of the same look, so I think it will end up being very similar to the outfits below. She is a little rocker chick, so I think she will have fun with these outfits ;-)
The skirts are from J. Crew. Depending on which color I choose, I would like to pair it with a plain tank top in the opposite color. Then maybe top it with some chain/statement necklace(s):
The final look will hopefully be similar to this:
We have twelve men to outfit!
- One groom
- Four groomsmen
- One man of honor
- Two junior groomsmen
- Two ring bearers
- Two dads
:: INSPIRATION ::
Gray vests and pants, with white custom Chuck Taylors (our gift to them). We liked the lighthearted, casual feel of this look; kind of modern and vintage, at the same time! We searched high and low to find matching gray suit vests and pants, and it was hard to find something that met all of our needs (the exact look, affordable, easy to obtain without us fronting the money or forcing our GMs to buy them now). So we had to adjust our plans a bit.
:: REALITY ::
GROOM
Gray tuxedo, white shirt, ivory vest, ivory tie, white Chuck Taylors
GROOMSMEN & MAN OF HONOR
Gray tuxedo, white shirt, gray vest, coral tie, white Chuck Taylors
*After the ceremony, they will take off their jackets, roll up their sleeves, and hopefully have a similar look to our original inspiration pic above.*
JUNIOR GROOMSMEN & RING BEARERS

Black suit, white shirt, coral tie, black Chuck Taylors
DADS
Black tuxedo, white shirt, black vest and coral tie
Conclusion: Not what we originally planned, but we think it will still look sharp! :-) All menswear will be provided by Men's Wearhouse.
Some ties we found during our original search. Might help someone else looking for ideas :-)

We have decided on a three-tier round cake. We wanted a simple design with fresh flowers!
It will be sort of a mash-up of these two styles:
:: Design ::
All ivory buttercream icing, similar to the cake on the right. BUT with the patterns of the cake on the left.
Top tier: Dots. Middle tier: Scrolls. Bottom tier: Lattice pattern.
The dots will be silver and gold.
:: Topper ::
We ordered a 6" monogram wooden topper from Crafty Eddy. I will be painting it coral, and then adding DIY bling. We will also add coral roses to the top, as well as the tiers, like this:

:: Flavors ::
Since the red velvet cheesecake was instrumental to our proposal, we wanted to incorporate that into our wedding cake! The bottom tier will be red velvet cake with cream cheese filling. The middle and top tiers will be pink champagne cake with cream cheese filling.
:: Cake table ::
We will have our cake, rose petals, knife & server set and my bouquet on the table. And as many votives as I can squeeze on the table!

I am not really a flower girl, but I am really excited about everything after meeting with the florist!
Our fur baby is a HUGE part of our life, so his presence will be missed at the wedding!
To make up for it, we are going to incorporate him into an element of the wedding: our candy buffet, which is also serving as our favor. I am going to call it "Sgt's Sweet Shoppe", and will attempt to design something cute for a sign and/or favor bag stickers. I will probably put one of our e-pics with the pooch on an easel next to the candy buffet :-)
Here are some of my candy buffet inspirations!

My STDs just came in! We used one of our e-pics, and created a postcard via Vistaprint. With one of the special email offers, it came to $6.52 for 100 postcards!

Our invitations were designed by PW's Sarah Goff aka Signatures by Sarah! I had seen a design that I liked online, and asked her to use it for inspiration. She did a wonderful job bringing my vision to life, and I had so much fun working with her. I highly recommend her!

My first DIY!
"Will you be my bridesmaid?" cards, inspired by oncewed.com.
They are paper dolls of my 4 BMs and 1 Man of Honor. I assembled them and put one set with each card, which had a personalized poem. Then I slid a belly band over it to hold it all together. I mailed them to each person individually. It was SO much fun waiting on their phone calls, and they all loved them!!!
The poems read:
It's been ten years since we first met,
and began a friendship I could never forget.
From Austin until now,
A million memories we’ve made.
We’ve laughed and even cried;
There's not a moment I'd trade.
And though our lives are changing, our friendship stays true;
I will need my friend there when I say "I do."
You're the best kind of friend that there ever could be,
On May 28, 2011, will you stand up for me?
Future DIY projects I am hoping to attempt (the list is ever-growing!):
- Pocketfold invitations DONE!
- DIY hangers DONE!
- Bathroom baskets DONE!
- Table numbers DONE!
- Seating chart DONE!
- Candy buffet sign(s) DONE!
- Paddle fan programs DONE!
- Tears of Joy packets DONE!
- Blingy monogram cake topper DONE!
- Reserved signs DONE!
- Mr. and Mrs. signs DONE!
- Moss letters DONE!
- Thumbprint guest tree DONE!
- Memorial candles DONE!
- OOT bags/boxes DONE!
I made moss letters to hang on the entry doors at our venue. I am so happy with how they turned out! It was a very easy DIY project, so it helped boost my confidence for future projects!
Materials (all purchased from Hobby Lobby):
- 12" wood letters (2 @ $1.99 ea)
- 1 525-cu. in bag of Spanish Moss ($3.00; regularly $5.99, but floral items were 50% off.)
- 1 can of Elmer's spray adhesive ($6.99)
- Gold spray paint (had on hand from another project)
- Newspaper
- Scissors
Total cost: $14
I loosely followed instructions from PW brides EmeraldLover and HLRhea. Note: This project was pretty messy, so I did it out on the patio! The moss gets everywhere!
Here are the plain letters:
First, I spray painted them gold and let them dry.
Then I sprayed the adhesive in one-inch strips, and stuck a small bunch of moss in place. Some people have used hot glue guns, but I would have ended up with burnt fingers :-)
I continued doing this until both letters were covered.
Finally, I trimmed the excess moss around the edges to clean up the letters. And voila! Super easy DIY!
My table numbers were inspired by this photo:
After mulling over a few different options, I opted for the easiest one (not necessarily the cheapest!)
I started collecting the white frames from Michaels over a period of about six months. I did this to spread out the expense (and also because sometimes I cleaned out the last few frames at Michaels!) They are 4"x6" frames by Studio Decor. The dollar store also has some frames that could work for this project. I was kind of spray painted out by this point in the DIY process, so I did not want to buy frames and add an extra step of work :-) I also gathered the wooden numbers and coral cardstock/scrapbook paper for the last several months. I found six sheets of 12"x12" paper that I really liked. I was able to create six table numbers from each sheet of paper, so I got 36 tables worth from those six sheets!
Prep:
1. Spray paint the wooden numbers desired color.
2. Cut the scrapbook paper into 4"x6" sheets.
Assembly:
1. I removed the frame backing and glass from the frame.
2. I placed the scrapbook paper in front (on top) of the glass.
3. I reassembled the frame with all the parts.
4. I sprayed Elmer's adhesive on the back of the number and stuck the number to the paper.
5. That's it! Could not be any easier :-)
Tips
Paper: I bought the highest end paper I could find -- which was still only $2 a page! You can't tell in the photos, but some of the papers are textured, which added a little something to the finished product. High end scrapbook stores were my friend here!
Frames and wooden numbers: I bought all of these with Michaels coupons. The "25% off frame purchase" coupons were awesome for this! The Studio Decor line of frames was frequently on sale for 30-40% off, and the coupons brought the price down even more. The $4.99 frames never cost me any more than $2.50 each.
Total costs
- Paper: $12 for six sheets ($0.33/table number)
- Frames: $2.50 ea
- Wooden numbers: $1.00 ea
- Spray adhesive: $5.99 (left over from other projects, but I included the cost!)
Roughly $3.83 per table number ($4.83 for double digits). It is easy to substitute cheaper options for the main components, as well!
This is what I gave my BMs:
Wedding day jewelry
Earrings, $3.80, Forever21.com

Bracelets, $5.80, Forever21.com

Hair flower, $1.50, Forever21.com

Dancin' shoes
TOMS, $44, TOMS.com

Personalized note cards
Vistaprint, $4.99 for 10!
And a bunch of little toiletries: Listerine strips, gum, "fancy eye makeup remover" aka Johnson's Baby Shampoo, Colgate Wisps, Tylenol packets, Burt's Bees, etc.
All packaged in this reusable tote bag:

Gray with coral sequins!
Tote bag, $10, Charlotte Russe
FINALLY finished this thing after months of working on it. Might have been because I only worked on it in fifteen minute increments! :-) It is definitely not perfect, but it will work! It is very sparkly in person!
Items needed:
- Wooden cake topper (purchased the letter H cake topper in Brock Script font from Crafty Eddy)
- 1040 size 10ss crystals from Ebay's Island Girl. These crystals had the adhesive on the back.
- Desired color of spray paint (ivory for me)
- Hot Fix tool
- Tweezers or other way to pick up the stones
Steps:
- I spray painted the letter, and let it dry overnight.
- I emptied some of the crystals on to a plate and flipped them crystal side up. This helped when I was trying to pick them up later.
- I slowly added crystals to the letter with the Hot Fix tool. I placed a few crystals at a time on to the topper. If you haven't used a Hot Fix tool, you simply heat it up and lightly touch the tip of the tool to the top of the crystal. The heat softens/melts the adhesive underneath so it sticks to the wood. I learned quickly that you have to do it in sections. Rows, lines, whatever works for you. Just something so that it looks consistent!
There are several little holes and imperfections, but overall it turned out very pretty!
Cost estimate:
- Cake topper ($14)
- Spray paint (Had from other projects)
- Hot Fix tool ($8 from Michaels; bought with 40% off coupon)
- Crystals ($6? Estimate)
TOTAL: $28
I have gotten a lot of questions on these, so I thought I would just add a few words in my bio about how I did the memorial candle display. Absolute easiest DIY from my wedding, and each candle cost < $2.00 :-)
I did not take photos as I went along, but the process was simple.
Materials:
- 7" tall glass vases (Dollar Tree, $1/ea)
- 8.5" x 11" vellum sheets (Michaels, $0.49/ea. May want to buy a few extra in case the ink runs when you print.)
- Tape runner, glue dots or hot glue
- Battery operated tea lights (Dollar Tree, $1/Two-pack. Real votives/tea lights also work just fine, but I liked the flicker from the battery operated tea lights. No clean up necessary, and since they are very short, they illuminated the entire vase. *Note: They are not lit in the photo.)
- Frame for note (optional)
- I used Power Point to create the labels for the vases. I re-sized the document to 7" x 11" :to make sure I placed the words correctly.
- I used one font for "In Loving Memory" and another font for the names. The best way to do the vase labels is to create one label in Power Point and print a test run for correct size/placement. (Once the label is printed, you will have to cut off about 1.5" along the top of your vellum sheet to make sure it fits correctly on the vase.) I printed test runs on regular paper so I didn't waste my vellum sheets :-)
- Once I had everything the way I liked it, I just created duplicate slides in Power Point for the number of vases I was doing. Then I just went through and changed the names on each slide.
- Print the labels on to your vellum sheets. I recommend printing one sheet at a time. The vellum paper is rather thin and can jam up your printer or go through in bunches!
- Slice the extra 1.5" off the top of each sheet (will be along the long edge).
- Wrap the sheet around the vase and secure with tape/glue.
- Insert the candle and you have a beautiful display!
These are very simple by design, but you can see how they can easily be tweaked to fit your style. Add a ribbon at the top or bottom, some bling, different colors, etc.
