I made moss letters to hang on the entry doors at our venue. I am so happy with how they turned out! It was a very easy DIY project, so it helped boost my confidence for future projects!
Materials (all purchased from Hobby Lobby):
- 12" wood letters (2 @ $1.99 ea)
- 1 525-cu. in bag of Spanish Moss ($3.00; regularly $5.99, but floral items were 50% off.)
- 1 can of Elmer's spray adhesive ($6.99)
- Gold spray paint (had on hand from another project)
- Newspaper
- Scissors
Total cost: $14
I loosely followed instructions from PW brides EmeraldLover and HLRhea. Note: This project was pretty messy, so I did it out on the patio! The moss gets everywhere!
Here are the plain letters:
First, I spray painted them gold and let them dry.
Then I sprayed the adhesive in one-inch strips, and stuck a small bunch of moss in place. Some people have used hot glue guns, but I would have ended up with burnt fingers :-)
I continued doing this until both letters were covered.
Finally, I trimmed the excess moss around the edges to clean up the letters. And voila! Super easy DIY!

Great job ~ they are beautiful! I agree, I burn my fingers with hot glue guns. I didn't know there was spray adhesive, makes sense I just didn't know. That was genius! |
