Ok so here is my inspiration for my card box...Yes it is a wedding cake but I think with sand and spray adhesive I should be able to make this a sand castle card box.
My thougtht is to put a Nausset Lighthouse on top with a treasure chest.
I have hat boxes and my Dad lined up for the construction! Surprisingly when I asked for help on this, his face lit up and he was excited to help me build this! Should be fun!
Here is the finshed product and the How to:
HOW TO:
OK I finished! It was a several step process! This is the how to:
Supplies:
A sand castle brd house - you can find in the garden centers or use them from an aquarium! The details are pretty and look prett cool too!
2 large hat boxes.
Sand colored paint
Modge Podge
Hot glue and hot glue gun- high temp works best!
Foam Brushes
Sand
Flat marbles onlong and round shapes- (round on one side, flat on the other...the dollar store!)
Something to cut card board with
Sea shells
Small River rocks- also available at the Dollar store or as supplies from the aquarium.
Cut your card slots
Cut a slot in the top box in the middle- Be careful!
If you have a lot of guests you will need to cut a whole in the bottom of the top box and in the lid of the bottom box. This will help the cards fall through.
Prepare your surface
Prepare the surface of the hat box by sanding with a fine grain sand paper- wipe it down with a damp cloth to remove any of the dust.
Using your foam brush apply 2 coats of sand colored acrylic paint. Dry throuroghly in between coats.
When completely dry check to see if there are any see through spots and touch up as needed.
Use the Modge Podge to coat the box and sprinkle the sand over the wet glue. Glue your lids on!
Decorate
Glue together all lids prior to decorating.
Using your hot glue gun glue the sand castle on top of the top card box.
Using the flat marbles (oblong) to make a path.
Using the round and oblong marbles create a patteren alternaing round to oblong around the perimiter.
Add the sea shell around the slot for the box.
I used the river rock around the perimiter of the top and the bottom box so that you can cover the seam. I used them for the seam by the sand caslte and the box as well. It gave it a more finshed looked.
I just added sea shells around the boxes to make it look pretty!
Let all dry and have fun!
Please PM me if you have questions!
I think I covered all the bases but maybe I forgot something! :-)
