Paul and I meet one early fall day when a mutual friend of ours, Julia, organized a casual brunch with a group of friends. I showed with my, then, boyfriend and thought to myself, "wow that guy is so funny and so handsome, and I'm here with this lug".... A few months later Paul came into the bar where I was working and it just so happened we were both single!! Me, being the stubborn hard head that I can be, didn't give him my number, instead I took his. We made a tentative plan to take our dogs to the dog park a few days later around noon. On that Wednesday, I got myself all pretty and called him! My little Chihuahua wasn't so much a fan of the dog park, but both Olive and myself were quite taken with Paul. The next night, he took me to dinner at a truly fabulous spot.
In a strange coinsidence, both Paul and myself were to be in Las Vegas that coming weekend. He was going for his best friend's bacholor party, and I was going down for a quick girl's weekend. I didn't arrive in Vegas till Sunday, and he got there on Friday, but the first thing I did was take a cab to the hotel, freshen up then meet him in the lobby bar!! We had such a great time together, when Paul was supposed to leave on Monday morning, he changed his flight and called in "sick" to work (with loud slot machines in the back ground) and stuck around with me for another day!! That was three years ago and we have been inseperable ever since!!!
I knew a proposal was coming, we had been talking about it and looking at rings for few months. It was just a matter of waiting (not so patiently..).
It happened on October 25, 2008. My two closest friends, Melissa and Julia (the same who introduced us on accident) and I had planned our annual Fall Day filled with leave jumping, pumpkin carving, plenty of baking and overall awesome-ness.
Waking up with a slight hang over, I had no idea. Julia and her husband had spent the night in our spare room and Julia casually suggested breakfast at the Delectable Egg (where we first met) I was quite hesitant but finally agreed after Julia told me that a my BFF, Melissa, would be joining us. So we drug our sickly butts down there.
I guess I didn't notice everyone was acting really strange, and when I grabbed Paul's hands to hold, I thought he was only clammy and sweaty because he wasn't feeling well. I even asked him, "babe, you are really clammy are you okay?"
At that point he got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife. I was SO surprised, I didn't even believe it was happening. I keep looking around at my friends, one of whom was snapping pictures, the other was bawling. I responded with, "but, we're hung over, and it's just a coincidence that we are here," (apparently it wasn't and he had been setting it up for weeks).
We are planning a wedding for January 30, 2010!!!
Our corgi's.. We say we love them because they make us feel so tall... (FI is 6'6 and I'm 5'9....)
Brian....
and Basil..
We are just in the initially stages of planning, and my FI has pretty much just given me free rein (smart man!)
Disclaimer: I'm an avid right clicker, if a picture is yours let me know, so I can give cred where cred is do!!
(the knot)
I'm going for a very whimisical winter forest theme with lots of winter white!!! Will also be using pewter (BM's dresses) and Tiffany/ Robin's Egg blue sparingly (stationary, favors). Seriously considering a few splashes of my favorite color, red (my shoes, maybe a birdcage cardbox?)
(Amsale & Martha Stewart)
I am the girl that judges a party by the invitation!!!! Don't even think about a fill in the blank stationary for this guy........ thems is fighting words.
That being said, there is no way I could get married without a Letterpress Suite!!!
Save the Dates:
Martha Idea (LOVE IT.... so tired of vista print post cards)
if you can't see it.... the circles are stickers so people can slap them on their calanders.... Fricken Genius..
Martha
STD rough draft.. our paper is more ivory and these were ink jet printed, not pressed... but i'm happy with them....
Final Proof of letterpress (done by the amazingly talented Smokeproof Press)
And with the stickers..
I heart them!!!
My Invites, from the perfect SmokeProof Press, check out his Esty shop at: http://www.etsy.com/shop/smokeproof
I will be making my cake.... Don't worrry girls, I am a professional pastry chef...
edit... i will not be making my cake. that is crazy talk. i found an amazing women on weddingwire, her business is called KristiesCakes...
this is what we've picked out:
(sourse: unknown.) no flower though. and grey ribbon. plus a couple of fresh anomenies.
here are the cake toppers i semi DIY'ed. they were tree oridaments from C&B added a little ribbon, tulle, a feater and bam.
I meet with my favorite florist in the whole wide world this week and we have so many ideas to turn my venue into a magical wintery forrest...We will you tall and short arrangments and not limit ourselves with just flowers, but use props, suculents and candles, it will be gorgeous...
My bouquet will be just like this
My girls will have a similar one, but each one will only have one flower, mixed with the grey leaves and my new obsession, snow berries...
For the fellas.....
Well, after the encouragement of my mother to find a venue where we could do the ceromony and reception in one place, we were direct to Redline by our Wedding Guru. The space is clean, unique and fantastic. It is an art gallery/ non profit/ community center... hell, I'm not really sure what it is, but it is perfect.
This is a photo of the entry way, to the right is where the main space is....but you kind of get the idea. It is pretty brand spankin' new, so not many photos of it exsist, and I forgot my camera when I went for a visit....twice.
Finding a dress I loved was quite a thing... First dress I loved was like, 900 big ones.. I think I'd have no friends if I asked that, so after many, many try on's I found this....
Jim Hjelm 5939
in a dark silver taffata... i'm in love with the fabric...
I can't find any FG dresses that I think are appropriate. At all. I really want lil Julia to wear a cardigan with a big, poofy skirt, like Starg8zer's...
Paul D. Barrett don't even think about looking at this...............
After an somewhat agonizing search for the perfect gown (I had **this is the dress*** feeling about 3 times.. maybe 4) the first dress that my mother and I loved was marked down 50% because the store was closing their bridal salon, so we bougth it. Just like that......
Amsale's Arrianna... ((((((((((swoon))))))))))
It is hanging in the spare bedroom closet and I take it out and just look at it about twice a week... Just to make sure it's still there...
I feel pretty lucky because I haven't had a second of the allusive PW "dress doubt"..
Now to decide, catherdal veil or birdcage (I'll most likely do both)...
First Fitting:
We added a layer of tulle under the dress, for a bit more poof.
My amazing FI surprised me with the shoes I've been lusting over for the wedding... What a great man, buying me designer shoes!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ordered costume pieces from etsy seller brendasbridalveils at http://www.etsy.com/shop/brendasbridalveils.
I couldn't be happier:
First Trial with Bobbi Brown.. definate no go:
Round 2 with my favorite MAC girl:
I (kinda) made a birdcage cardbox. well, i painted it, added ribbon and cardstock.
these are my OOT guest welcome boxes. they will be filled with hot chocolate, marshmallows, cookies, kisses!
there is a cute not and a couple of maps in the pretty red envolopes.
