we tied the knot friday - august 15, 2008!
everything went beautifully! though there were little hiccups (officiant got bronchitis...but her husband officiated because he's a reverend too!), they were so minor in comparison to the wonderful day. after being stressed and worried for 10 months of planning, i was surprisingly calm and relaxed the entire day!:) and i could not have imagined how unbelievably happy i felt all day long, and especially when the ceremony started. standing up there, facing my now husband (!), i could not stop smiling. i felt such a rush of emotion...it was amazing. and to see all our friends and family at the reception, surrounding us, we had never felt so loved. and 3 days later...married life is pretty awesome!
*update* our photog (finally) blogged our wedding! here are the teasers he posted!
having been engaged since late november, my FI and i will be tying the knot in less than a month! we met in college and have been together for about 6.5 years (long distance for 3). i relocated back to san diego after grad school, and it's wonderful to be back and be with my FI:) we're excited to share this special day with our close family and friends!
we took engagement photos a little late (about a month before the wedding!). we were both really hesitant about the photo session - more because we weren't sure what to expect. by the end, we were both laughing and had a great time. it was a welcome reminder what all this stressful planning is for!
we started at this suspension bridge near the birch aquarium (our ceremony + reception location) and moved to the ucsd scripps research institute. we ended the session at torrey pines state beach which had beautiful views. FI and i go hiking here quite often, so we thought it was a fitting location as we both love living by the ocean.
angel sanchez - spring 2006 (m bride salon in la jolla)
this was probably the 3rd or 4th dress i tried on (overall). it was almost a perfect fit (sample dress) and i totally had that 'aha!' moment.
bridesmaid dresses are from ann taylor(on super sale!). groomsmen tuxes are black suit, black shirt, silver vest + tie. invitations from fresh invitation studio. FI and i assembled them ourselves; i added the sheer silver ribbon to give the invites some texture. we got many many compliments! we also added a custom stamp from stamps.com.
i've been a bit of a late starter to PW, and it's been so useful in the later months of wedding planning! i'll be updating this page over the next week as the final details of the wedding fall into place!
the colors: [ivory, royal teal, silver/pewter/charcoal grey] i haven't been a huge stickler that everything *must* match, especially since the teal color that we chose (more blue-ish) was a little difficult to match (and i was too tired to search for very long!). also, i liked the idea that we had a main color theme, but that we could be flexible with the color range. overall, i think palette came together nicely.
the invitations: they're posted above, but i think the invitations and the bridesmaids' dresses are the strongest indication of teal. everywhere else will be silver + ivory. some of the reception decor will be teal (cocktail hour linens).
the programs: inspired by the diy programs i've seen on PW and wedding photography blogs, i started assembling our wedding programs over the weekend/last night. the cardstock is from paper source (5.5"x5.5", color is lake), ribbon from michaels, outside decorative paper from snow & graham (gift wrap paper!) and pearly white paper is from blick art store. inside of programs printed at kinkos.
the table names: we named the tables (even ours! the cliffs - an area that overlooks la jolla which has sentimental meaning to us - our first kiss + where he proposed) and provided a little description as to why the place has meaning to us. there were 12 tables total...but for some reason, i cannot find 4 of the table names post-wedding! the silver cardstock was from blick art store, same snow & graham paper that was used for the programs, and we printed out the names on our home inkjet printer on the pearly white paper (*note: that paper isn't really meant to be printed on! we had to let it dry in order to not smudge it...learned the hard way).
ceremony + reception: birch aquarium at scripps (outside ceremony, overlooking the beach! and indoor reception)
caterer: the french gourmet
dj: jerry beck of beck's entertainment
photographer: nick abadilla of nick abadilla photography
florist: diane reichenbach of whimsey florals
makeup/hair: shelisa burke of a beautiful bride
invitations: melanie chiong montoya of fresh invitation studio
dress alterations & veil pressing: roxie @ margaret's cleaners (la jolla)
