My husband and I had our wedding ceremony and reception here last October. The venue was great, but the view of downtown San Diego was the icing on the cake. We had a lot of out of town guests and they were blown away. I had an overall positive experience with this facility. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I received a new catering coordinator about 3 1/2 months before my event. She did great considering she was new to the position, and basically had to pick-up the clients from the previous coordinator (who was responsive and amazing!).

We booked the Harbor Lounge, which was perfect for 120 guests. We went with one of the wedding packages, which gave our guests plenty of food and beverage options throughout the evening. We selected the grilled new york steak, and salmon florentine as our food options, and they were delicious! We were also given a vegetarian option and selected pasta primavera, but I wish we picked the mushroom ravioli instead. My only complaint was that the air conditioning wasn't working in the bridal room or reception area. Heat normally wouldn't be an issue in October, but the weather was unusual that week.

This is a military installation, and everything is tax-free, but their rules and requirements are different than other public facilities. A little extra work will be required on your end. Be sure to read the fine print before booking.

My husband and I had our wedding ceremony and reception here last October. The venue was great, but the view of downtown San Diego was the icing on the cake. We had a lot of out of town guests and they were blown away. I had an overall positive experience with this facility. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I received a new catering coordinator about 3 1/2 months before my event. Both my husband and I had attended a couple weddings at AK, and we knew what a spectacular venue this was with the ocean and downtown views. We booked our date 15 months in advance, and had to book on a Friday since Saturdays typically book out 2 years in advance. I am certain that this venue is the best value for the prime location. It is not, however, very flexible, since it is a military property. It's not a problem as long as you understand the rules and policies. We had our reception in the Skyline Room, which is the upstairs venue. You pay for a minimum of 200 guests, and we had 175. We talked them into counting our 8 children as part of the 200 (contract says they do not count toward the minimum). We appreciated that flexibility to save $ on the kids' meals. We were not pleased initially with the AK coordinator we were assigned. She made mistakes on our contract, and we were not impressed with her communication skills with us. Then we met Nancy Watson-Leone, Catering Operations Assistant, at one of our walk through visits. Nancy has been at AK a long time, and she is absolutely amazing. She talked us through any questions we had that were not answered by our assigned AK coordinator. She made sure we knew our options and reminded us to get our guest lists in on time so that we were in compliance with the policies. The reception at AK was perfect - from the set up with our sweethearts table, with the sunset behind us, and our loved ones at their tables on both sides of us, to the spacious dance floor, to the food. We did not expect much from the food since the tastings at the catering fairs were just OK. We had so many compliments from guests on our food! Even though we had buffet, AK was flexible in making two special orders for two guests with dietary restrictions. If you are open to the policies and rules at AK (as well as vetting your vendors for AK's approval), then you will love AK for your wedding! We would definitely recommend it.

Because they are a military base they were not flexible with start/end times of cocktail hour and dinner (though our DJ made that happen on the day of, Jeremy from Party People San Diego). They are also not flexible with the start times of the ceremony, there are only 2. The food was decent, we chose salmon and prime rib. I heard the prime rib was better than the salmon. Our catering manager was very difficult to get ahold of and retired 3 months before our wedding without telling us. The communication lacks a little. Overall, a good experience with them though.

Admiral Kidd in Point Loma is a very beatiful venue! The people there are very friendly, but you must rember due to it being on a Navy base there are many rules! I did not really have a problem with any of them but there is definitely not a lot of flexibilty with this place. I did have a wonderful experience there though!

the food was good, the meats were a bit salty, but everything else tasted fine. The food for the main dinner meal was good, but not spectacular. However the hors dourves were amazing! They were so tasty and so filling that I didnt even eat much of the main meal.

The AKC, as my family and I have come to call it, was spectacular. We loved everything about our experience with them (Dan was my catering manager - so awesome!). Emails and phone calls were responded to quickly, and just about everything was perfect. The only reason why it's not a perfect 5 stars is because we weren't able to change the cocktail hour because the schedule was written 2 weeks prior, and we realized we didn't adjust the time earlier. Yes, it's technically our fault, but a "maybe we could call the bartender on the schedule to see if they could come in..." would have been a nice gesture. Other than that, everything was spot on and perfect!

If I could give this place NEGATIVE stars I would. Since I signed the contract with them saying I would have my wedding there, I have had nothing but trouble. First the coordinator told me 150 people could easily fit into a room. I asked multiple times to be sure she was correct because the room appeared small. After signing the contract and receiving a layout, there was no way they could fit Comfortably in the room. I had to upgrade which would cost me at least 3K more (due needing to have 200 guests minimum for this new room and the catering plan we were picking). I also requested a new coordinator (March). My wedding is October 2016, it is now the last week of June 2016. They have not called me once to start planning or asking for payment. I found this odd. Upon calling them and leaving multiple voicemails (every 3-4 calls gets me one call back) she returned my call. We had to move the wedding one week back almost two months ago (May) because of my husbands work schedule (he's in the Navy), she told me this was all taken care of and I had nothing to worry about. However, she just informed me that because she didn't actually change my date she gave my wedding date away. Even though I paid first, I asked for this date first (I know this because the coordinator told me so) and she said it was taken care of, she tried to continuously blame this mistake on me. Now they want me to move my wedding, to another location they have (which is just as beautiful as the first; however it's completely outside and right on the water with no real lights) expect me to pay extra for lighting and heating. Why should my husband and I pay for her mistakes? When I objected she implied that I was being difficult and that I should move my wedding to make it easier. When she is the single reason that I am having this problem. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. The food is good (not great), however no amount of good food or a good view will makeup for them ruining my wedding.

The venue was absolutely beautiful!! Right on the bay front with the downtown skyline view. Great during the day time with the beautiful water and breathtaking at night with the skyline view. We received great feedback from the guests and they all loved it! The food was average but their skyline room upstairs has a nice balcony as well. Overall, we are satisfied with our experience and we are glad we chose that venue.

The venue is beautiful. But it's kind of hard to get a hold of someone. Played phone tag a lot. In all fairness I think they just hired someone new. And when I did go visit the venue it was super busy. So I can imagine them being overwhelmed a lot. It is military establishment so there are a lot of rules but at the price and the view I can let them slide. :)
