Admiral Kidd in Point Loma is a very beatiful venue! The people there are very friendly, but you must rember due to it being on a Navy base there are many rules! I did not really have a problem with any of them but there is definitely not a lot of flexibilty with this place. I did have a wonderful experience there though!

AKC did a truly amazing job at our wedding on 3-16-13! We worked with Tess at AKC, and she was truly wonderful!! Everything went so smooth! We were upstairs in the Harbor View room, and had about 200 people at our wedding. Everything was set up on time, ready to go, and the room looked stunning!! We had so much fun! We opted to add on an extra hour for our reception, too, which I highly recommend!! Great service, great good, great fun!!! A great venue, too, for "out of towers"! They all really loved the view! We had our ceremony at AKC, too, and it was perfect!! Greatest day, EVER!

I am so glad we chose this venue for our wedding. We got married on the lawn and had our reception in the Skyline Room (upstairs), so we had the balcony that our guest could enjoy throughout the night. The food actually ended up being 10x better than we thought it would!! Our guests said the hors d'oeuvres were delicious and my dinner was very tasty! The view is remarkable, we received so many compliments from our guests about how incredible the view was. The only bad thing about the venue is that they are very strict with their rules, i.e. no bubbles, no sparklers, no rice, no flower petals, etc. However, we knew that going into it and decided we loved the venue so much it was worth it. Overall, I am so happy with our decision and I would recommend this venue to anyone who can get a military sponsor.

Admiral Kidd Club is an absolutely breathtaking venue. The grounds are beautiful and the San Diego skyline cannot be beat, daytime or nighttime. My morning ceremony on the lawn by the water was more than amazing. The weather was gorgeous and all of our pictures were fantastic. Now even though this is a military base, my Navy husband and I chose to leave everything else military out of our wedding. This venue is a great option to do either, although you do need a military sponsor to be able to use the base. And if you or your soon-to-be spouse are military, be sure to get the military discount!!

There are a few things to be aware of if you select this as your venue. I recommend using one of their wedding packages as this will most likely ultimately save some money. However, the alcohol they supply is not the best, but paying to bring your own is not worth it. They will do a great job with set-up, but make sure you are VERY SPECIFIC on how you want things to look. Review the contract in detail as they do have rules (such as no rice, confetti, flower petals, etc. may be thrown).

Bottom line- you may have to work a little harder with this venue to get your wedding and or/reception the way you want, but it will be worth it if done well!

(Also- be sure to book as far in advance as possible. They WILL fill up!!!)

I had a mixed experience with the venue. You cannot ask for a better view, honestly. It is absolutely beautiful and anywhere else you would be paying 3-4 times more. My main complaint was the service at the actual wedding. I obviously didn't deal with any of this until after the wedding, but I heard several comments from those that set up and several comments about service during the wedding. For example, we were asked to bring our linens the day before so they would have time to set them up before we got there the day of. When my coordinator was let inside, they were not on the table, and when she asked if they were going to set them up, one worker told her to do it herself. WHAT is the point of having my florist drive all the way there the day before to drop off linens if they didn't need to be there until the day of?! And then, to tell her to do it herself!! Another example, I had one main cake, and then 3 cakes to be set up around it and 2 more in the kitchen for extra. During the wedding, they put out the cakes that didn't have florals on them, and then after the wedding, my additional cakes went missing. I had to go into the kitchen to find them because they wouldn't look for me. They need to get better people working there because they are extremely rude. A few other issues, but overall, it was a beautiful setting and the food was good. I would recommend it, but maybe have a talk with the rep first about the service.

We had an electrical issue that then snowballed into a huge customer service issue, but had we not had the electrical problem, I think everything would have gone fine. Their communication and patience was excellent before the wedding, and the director met with us after the wedding to discuss the issues that came up. Overall the value is too good for San Diego to pass up, so I highly recommend that brides ona budget consider the facility. You can't beat the view during the ceremony either!

I missed the taste testing that they hold twice a year but from other reviews I've heard the food is great, not excellent but very good.
Based on what my guests told me they thought the food was excellent so I was really happy with our choices and the quality. The appetizers were probably my favorite and they never let a dish empty. The setup and tear down of the main (buffet) dinner was quick and efficient.

Awesome view! Honestly the wedding went perfect. Of course is did end up raining, but they were very on top of everything and converting the reception area into the ceremony area also. They were very accomodating with this situation. I was very worried that the rain would ruin the day, but they made everything perfect. Food was great and everything was set up just how we discussed. I would definitely recommend this site for anyone wanting to get married with the downtown/ bay view as your backdrop!

I was very pleased with Admiral Kidd. Adam and I reserved the ceremony site, reception and catering. The ceremony spot was beautiful during the wedding and breathtaking at night. Many of our guest were from out of town so the skyline added to the excitement.

Our food was fantastic. I was nervous because I wasnt able to try any food before our wedding day and I didnt know what to expect. The prime rib, halibut and stuffed chicken were all really good and I would order them all again.

My only two complaint are this: 1) they were hard to get a hold of and returned calls sometimes two weeks later during the planning process. Very frustrating. 2) when our prepaid bar allowance ran out, they starting charging our guest for drinks. Our agreement was to ask us when supplies were low and let us make the call if we wanted to extend our tab. I have no way of knowing how many of our guests had to pay for their own drinks.

We had our wedding at the Admiral Kidd Catering and Conference Center on 4/17/2010. The backdrop for our ceremony was breathtaking. Melissa from the catering office was extremely helpful throughout the whole process. This was the best bang for our buck that we could find in San Diego on the water. The food was good and the space was awesome. The downstairs room comfortably fit out 115 guests. I couldn't image choosing a more perfect location for my big day.

What an amazing venue. It is only available for military but it is by far the BEST value and scenery of all the military venues. Our ceremony and reception took place here on a Sat. morning which was great because we were the only wedding and did not have to worry about someone else's space. We planned the wedding in 4 months so we did get lucky b/c of the time of year. The food and services were so great. They cannot be as flexible because it is a military base but they will definitely work with you and see what they can adjust or include/allow.

I went to a wedding here prior to getting married and knew I would get married there if I was still in San Diego. The space is great and i highly recommend the lower level even if you have a smaller number of guests than the minimum 100. The room allowed people to move around well without feeling crowded and without looking too spacious or empty.

Get married here!! you will love it. Request Karen as your consultant because she was so friendly, amazing, and worked with us up to the last day before the wedding!

We were so happy with Admiral Kidd for our ceremony and reception! We got married on the lawn with the downtown skyline as our backdrop and had our reception on the second floor. Service was great! Food was amazing with great complimentary drinks (free beer and wine for cocktail hour). Originally, we had booked the lower room since it was a bit lower in price but since we got married on a Sunday and the other room was free, the staff was nice enough to extend the top room with no additional cost. Beautiful balcony for guests to take a break from dancing and enjoy some fresh air. Very, very pleased with this venue.

I worked with Karen Cusgen, and she was great. She was quick to respond to any questions I had, and tolerated the fact that I cyber-stalked her wedding and am subtly using some of her ideas. Trying to get someone on the phone is nearly impossible, but 90% of the time, any questions I had for Karen were answered within the half hour.

We had 112 confirmed guests (7 people didn't show up the day of, but for good reason) for the room downstairs (Harbor View Room/Patio) and a ceremony on the lawn. During the ceremony & reception, most everything went as smoothly as I could have hoped. The duty manager we worked with that night, whose name I unfortunately didn't learn, was very good at bringing up concerns only I could deal with (e.g. continuing the open bar when we'd reached our original limit)- I learned later that my assistant/friend & bridesmaids dealt with other issues - gotta give AKC credit for knowing not to stress out the bride!

The value for cost was ABSOLUTELY worth it, for the view alone! The pictures that my friends & family took were gorgeous - and we still haven't seen the pro's! Any place else with the same view & similar food would have been at least 3 times as much in cost, without the liquor. (BTW - the price we paid includes open bar, a keg of Sierra, & 2 bottles of wine at 14 tables, as well as all the standard food/drink, as well as the ceremony.)

I went to a couple of the vendor fair/tastings, and not one of the dishes really stood out, but we were prepared to have satisfactory food in exchange for the view, entertainment & liquor - thankfully, the food turned out wonderfully! The beef dishes we tasted @ the fair weren't good at all, and while we wanted to give our guests a choice between a couple dishes, we couldn't let our guests eat such... sub par... food.

So, we ended up starting with the green salad, with a spinach/parmesan stuffed chicken accompanied by scalloped potatoes and mixed veggies, for the entree. For the price we paid, the food was much better than any hotel wedding food I'd ever had - I was pleasantly surprised.

The chairs that AKC provides are ugly, but it was worth it for us to go to a linen company to pay for chair covers. I thought the columns were going to be an annoyance, but the way the tables were set up, you hardly noticed them. I also thought the dance floor in the corner was going to be a hindrance, but the way my DJ made the evening flow, it ended up working out well.

As for flexibility - it's a military base, so don't expect them to bend any of the rules for you. I did ask a lot of questions about transportation & the guest list, just to make sure that none of my guests got refused entrance. They were pretty flexible with the decor (e.g. hanging things on the wall/from the ceilings), but they do charge a clean up fee for prohibited materials - make sure to read the fine print clearly. Also, they are firm about the end time. We paid to end our reception at 11, but they still close the bar at 10p - ended up being for the best, b/c if our guests kept drinking they would've all ended up passed out on the lawn. The nice thing about our wedding being on a military base - no wedding crashers!

There is a larger room upstairs from the room we booked, and thankfully no one was in it - so I can't tell you what it would be like to have 2 parties booked at the same time.

The take home message is if you want a wedding on the water, and if you have the proper contacts, Admiral Kidd is the best choice! We visited most of the other military bases with wedding venues on the water, but AKC was definitely the best. You have to figure that paying around $80/pp for the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, beer, wine and OPEN BAR - even it it weren't such a pretty venue - is worth it!

Read less

Beautiful location, best value for the money. The food was wonderful the only thing I would say they need is a Wedding planner to be there the day of the wedding and at the rehearsal. I was shocked when no one from the facility was there for our scheduled rehearsal.

Wow! Not only was the plae itself absoluetly amazing, but the food was great! I thought it wouldn't be so good because it was on a military base, but boy was I wrong. All my guests loved the food and the meat choses. The ceremony location is outside facing the harbor and the San Diego Skyline, truly amazing! The ballroom was so big and is beautifully decorated with it's white pillars and has a huge dance floor!

I would strongly recommend that people with a military connection look into the various sites available. It is easiest if you or your fiance have a military ID, but the venue will still work with you if you have another "sponsor" (for us, it was my husband's mom). The Admiral Kidd is a gorgeous venue, and an amazing price when you look at any other waterfront venue. We had the upstairs ("Skyline") room, which included the balcony. The room's wall of windows was amazing, especially for our daytime wedding - a fantastic view of downtown San Diego! The ceremony was outside. Unfortunately, when you book the upstairs room, you do not get the area immediately outside the building if there is another event downstairs (otherwise you'd be right outside their windows). Our ceremony was off to the side, at an angle. Still a very nice location and worth the extra $100, plus the cost of chair rentals.

The reception was nice - the food was OK (nothing special, but not terrible). We went with the buffet, which saved a few dollars per person. The staff was friendly, but sometimes hard to find when we needed things done (e.g. we had some special food items that needed to be brought out for folks with special dietary needs). The room does not look as nice when it is not set up, and I would definitely recommend getting chair covers - although they can be expensive, they really help transform the room. The pillars can make set up a little awkward if you have a lot of tables (we had 26 tables, not including the head table, and a few of the tables were on the "outside" of the pillars, so we had to be creative in where they went so those guests didn't feel cut off from the rest), but after we figured that out, the pillars were not an issue and seemed to disappear into the background.

Another great feature of the upstairs room is that the dance floor is right in the middle. The downstairs room seems more cramped, and the dance floor is against a wall.

One major concern that was a surprise to us: the venue does not do individual tastings. They only schedule one tasting night every six months, and they always on a weeknight. We had to select our menu without tasting anything. The site representative did not tell us this (we even scheduled a "tasting" with her, only to arrive and have her tell us she didn't have any food for us, and to just go ahead and select from the list). It was too close to the wedding to attend one of the tastings, which we wouldn't have been able to attend anyway because we both work. She then promised to call us when weddings were serving things we were interested in so we could (theoretically) show up and sample, but she never called us at all.

The site coordinator was absolutely terrible in the year leading up to our wedding - taking over a week to return calls and emails, then not having an answer when she called us back, forgetting about an appointment, confusing us with other clients, etc. She also forgot to give the guest list to the gate for our rehearsal, so it took a long time to get everyone on base! However, in the week immediately before the wedding, she was suddenly amazingly responsive! We figured out why, when after the wedding, she handed us an evaluation. Now that the evaluation is done, she is not returning our call about the cake separators that were not returned to us.

I would still recommend this venue for the great view and amazing price, but be aware of what you are getting yourself into. Be sure to get everything in writing, call and confirm everything, and also provide the venue with everything in writing (e.g. I made a packet that we gave the coordinator that included a detailed timeline, seating chart, and specific instructions "Please tell the kitchen staff to [do this] at [this time]").

The value was great. I feel that it was the best military conference center in San Diego for a wedding. It is a beautiful location.
They were flexible with my preferences & adjustments to the catering.
Tess did a great job-- sweet & personable.
The one difficulty is the bussing of guests onto base. But they know how to handle it. You just need to be prepared with a guest list &/or passes.

Overall we really loved this venue. It was beautiful and a great deal for the price. My only complaint would be that the manager on staff the evening of my wedding was not around at all. A group in the room next to us tried to "crash" our wedding and it took quite a while before someone finally had to go find the manager and have the people leave.

The Admiral Kidd Club is by far one of the most breath-taking spots to get married at. The view and the building were just amazing and our pictures came out even better because of the area. How ever I do not like that our rehearsal could not be the day before the wedding, we had many out of towners in our wedding and this made it hard on them. I also did not like how hard it was to get a hold of someone on the telephone when I needed to ask a question. Though the service at the ceremony was great. I did not like all the rules they had, it made it hard to have it my way- but this is a military base. I did not like that there is another wedding reception going on at the same time. We did not see much of the other wedding, so it was not as bad as I thought but the first floor I recomond. Over all I am so glad I had my wedding here, my guest are still talking about it! This place also books up years in advance, we took the very last Saturday of the Summer for 2007 way back in January of 2006.

Anyone with ANY military connections should really look into booking at any one of the military's beautiful waterfront sites. When I say "any," I mean it was my bridesmaid's aunt's husband who was in the military, and he didn't even come to the wedding (his wife did). So really, work those connections! Admiral Kidd had a view of the harbor, and really it was fabulous for the price. We paid $40/person for a plated dinner which included a tone of stuff - appetizers, 1 hr wine bar, beer, champagne toast, all their fees were included (i.e. cake cutting), and I'm sure I'm forgeting stuff. I didn't get a chance to try the appetizers, but I did wolf down the dinner whenever I could. I had the filet of sole and it was pretty good! (By the way, they have a tasting fair every few months, so call and ask about those!) With all the money we saved, we kicked in extra money for the bar. The coordinator was incredibly sweet, kind, and flexible with whatever I wanted to do. She made sure I was able to get on base when I needed to, even though I didn't have any military escort. She worked with me on all my last minute changes, and when the day came, everythig was perfect! My only critique is that sometimes, it took her longer to get back to me than I would have liked, but that might just be my anal nature. The site itself, was great. When I first visited, I didn't think to much of it, but when it was all dressed up, I was pretty impressed. So I suggest trying to see it right before they actually have an event there. Also, the upstairs room is much grander with a balcony that was just awesome, and they also offer their lawn for ceremonies for a great price, which I would've taken, but it was already booked about 1.5 years out. I booked about a year before our date. I think all the military sites are such a good deal, that they are usually booked well in advance. So start planning!

The AKC, as my family and I have come to call it, was spectacular. We loved everything about our experience with them (Dan was my catering manager - so awesome!). Emails and phone calls were responded to quickly, and just about everything was perfect. The only reason why it's not a perfect 5 stars is because we weren't able to change the cocktail hour because the schedule was written 2 weeks prior, and we realized we didn't adjust the time earlier. Yes, it's technically our fault, but a "maybe we could call the bartender on the schedule to see if they could come in..." would have been a nice gesture. Other than that, everything was spot on and perfect!

First off, this venue is a really nice place to have your wedding. The view is gorgeous and is a perfect place to have an outdoor ceremony. The ballroom we reserved, which was the Skyline room on the top floor, was perfect for a larger wedding that we had planned (200+ guests). There are a few things I would have to mention. First, this venue books FAST! When we booked our wedding, they were already 2-years out booked. We were lucky someone cancelled around the time-frame we were looking at. Second, this venue has strict rules and regulations to follow, so be sure with your other vendors that they can accommodate to the venue's rules (had a few issues with some vendors regarding this).

Our experience with this venue? My wife and I would say that we were overall satisfied with how we were treated and accommodated. Dan, our sales manager, really helped us out. He was very nice and accommodating to our needs. The food was outstanding! Everyone had nothing but good comments for the food.

There are a few things that did prevent us from giving this place a perfect score. First, the bar we had arranged to have for our reception was a bust due to the fact that their credit card machine was not working. We had arranged for a tab to be set for our guests but because of this issue, that was not possible. Second, we had ordered a buffet for our guests, which was great until they started keeping the food early. Guests were still a bit hungry but by the time they went to get more, the servers were already starting to clean up. Also, we did have an issue with passing out our cake/cupcakes. We had ordered enough cupcakes and cake for our guests but for some reason, some guests did not get any. We are unsure of the cause but some guests are saying that the cakes weren't distributed evenly among everyone.

Other than that, the venue and its services were good.

This venue is tucked away on the Naval base, so the outer surroundings are a bit unappealing, however once you get to the two story building, it is just so beautiful. It sits right along the San Diego bay and the upper level has a deck that offers spectacular views of the ocean. The lower level is for small parties, I'd say less than a 100, but is nice because guests have the option of walking out onto the lawn and relaxing with the nice breeze. The upper level is sooo nice because the dance floor is in the middle and splits the room very nicely. Also, the food is fantastic. We did the buffet which we thought might be a little tacky, but people appreciated being able to get up for seconds if needed. And the windows are large and open which provide such great views.

My experience was great. It was hard to get in touch at times, but they had just finished their remodel. It was lovely. Very cozy and good food.
