Okay so I got married at the Alumni Chapel on 5/14. It really is a beautiful place to get married! But for the price, I don't think it's worth it. It only seats about 200 people and you pay about $975 just to rent the chapel. I will say that I was surprised that they offered somethings available to my use. The offer a unity candle, which beats buying one and they also offer aisle runners and the music for the ceremony can be downloaded onto your phone and played over the loud mic. It really works well and sounds great! We had a student coordinator which was not my first choice, she was helpful with putting up any decorations needed. But when it came time for the ceremony she seemed rushed & stressed, and did not ring the bell that was promised to be rung at the ending of the ceremony. So that was a slight bummer. Overall she did her best.

We had our reception at the MSU Union, they say its free but really you have to spend a minimum of $3500 on food and beverage and they do require an $800 deposit. Which does go towards your balance at the end of the night so that's good! The staff at the union was great, and I especially enjoyed working with Pam. She was very helpful! And made sure that my night would run smoothly. They will take any decorations for you and set them up for you, so its very nice! Just don't forget to grab them at the end of the night..... that was a pain, but in the end I'm happy to have all my stuff back. The food was super delicious and the portions are great! Even for the kids meals. All veggie options are available too. We decided to have an open bar, which sounded good upfront. They tell you that they will distribute one drink per customer, but that is not true. We had people with multiple drinks in there hand and it really got out of hand, so much that people had 4,5,6, and 7 drinks within an hours time. If they had stuck to what they said then those numbers would have likely been lower. Overall great experience! &Beautiful Ballroom!

With my husband and I both being MSU alumni we knew we had no choice but to tie the knot there. Steve and his assistant were a pleasure to work with and very accommodating. Only problem is the price can be a bit steep for the whole 3 hour slot you are allotted.

As huge Spartan fans and alumni, my new husband and I couldn't imagine getting married anywhere else than the MSU Alumni Chapel.
Everything turned out beautifully and we are so happy we did it there. They are very flexible in allowing you to bring your own minister/officiant as well as music. They let your ceremony be what you want it to be.
We called about a year and a half in advance to inquire about using the chapel for our wedding, they only had one date left for the summer that we wanted to get married, so we took it and that's how our wedding date was decided. If you want to get married at the chapel, I highly recommend calling far in advance.

My husband and I choose to get married at the MSU Alumni Chapel because we met and fell in love while attending MSU. That being said, it really didn't matter the price, location or type of "value" we were getting. We wanted to get married there regardless. It is a beautiful venue and the people running it know what they are doing. They won't contact you until a few weeks before the wedding, don't let that bother you. Once you speak with them, they will get everything set the way you want. I did call a few times, and they were good about calling me back and making sure my questions were answered. I absolutely love the history behind the chapel and that we were married there.

We had our reception at the MSU Union ballroom on 5/25 and it was a great venue for 2 Spartan Alumni!
We also booked the alumni chapel for our ceremony so they offer a reception room at the union for free when you book the chapel which was a nice bonus.
The ballroom has a max of 250 and we ended up at around 170 which felt like a good number for the room, not too crowded and not too empty. Any lower than 150 would probably be too small for the ballroom and more than 200 would feel pretty tight even though the capacity is supposed to be 250. They do have several other rooms to accomodate smaller events but this is the biggest one I believe.
The union staff were super helpful with our planning, we had 2 coordinators as our first one got promoted to a different department during our engagement. Kade was our second coordinator and she was extremely helpful and responsive especially leading up to the event. She was very on top of things and frequently changed our estimates as we got more concrete numbers in which was helpful in figuring out our final cost. She was also very organized and went step by step through the reception plan and helped us make decisions on the number of appetizers and many other details.
We had a tasting a few months prior. They let us try 3 different entrees, you could try more for a price, and the chef answered all of our questions and was open to changing things up on the menu if we wanted.
We had the airline chicken and whitefish as our entrees. They were both delicious and the portions were huge. They also let us offer a veggie option and kids entrée without charging an additional entrée fee as long as it was less than 10% of the total head count.
For our appetizers we had the mini beef wellingtons and spanakopita as well as veggies and cheese and crackers, all were very tasty. We also had a late night snack of sliders which were a big hit.

We held our ceremony in the alumni chapel the staff was great in assisting with everything and walking us through our ceremony. The time spaces are well decided and there isn't much flexibility outside your hour for rehearsal and the 3 hour block you reserve for the ceremony which might be frustrating to some, but it did not bother us too much. It really is a beautiful location for a small intimate ceremony.

The staff at the MSU Alumni Chapel was great. We met with Steve Aiken a few days before the wedding and he helped us build the ceremony that we wanted. He also allowed us to come in to the chapel a little early, about 1/2 an hour ahead of our time slot to start setting up. He was very friendly and accommodating and we loved working with him! This was the perfect place for 2 MSU alumni to get married, it was beautiful and meaningful. We had a friend sing and she didn't need a microphone at all to be heard.

The coordinators at the chapel know how to make things run smoothly. We had one miscommunication on how to seat the groom's parents, but that was the only bump I know of!

We used the MSU union for our reception. The gold room was perfect and the decor turned out really nice. The best part is you can bring your own alcohol so you save money that way. However, they did not inform us that you could not have half gallon or gallon bottles ahead of time and when we delivered it they said it was not allowed. This, after I had already bought it all! They did work with me, but make sure you ask all these questions ahead of time because you might get some surprises the day before your reception! The food was really good and not horribly expensive.
