We had our ceremony in Balboa Park at the Casa Del Prado, Patio A. It was a beautiful open ceiling venue! I fell in love with it instantly. You need to go through parks and recreation to get the permit, and it's very little hassle. The only issue we ran into was that we didn't have "San Diego" in our address, we live in Santee. But they immediately suggested using a family member or friend's address, which we did. The total cost after using my Aunt's address was $153, and the park set up 200 chairs for us included in the permit cost!

The only issues I had were that it was a little hard for people to find, parking was kind of bad, especially for a Saturday afternoon, and there is noise from classrooms surrounding the patio. All the times we went before the ceremony the noise minimal, but the day of they let a class of children out on break right at the start of our ceremony and people couldn't hear well, but that's what is going to happen in a public area. It was still definitely worth it!

Beautiful venue for the price! However, u are only provided chairs and not guarenteed sound (double check). Also, there is no real privacy....strangers love weddings too.

We initially planned to wed in Balboa Park, but found the $500 price tag for a permit a bit pricey for a ceremony totally 8 people. We loved the facilities, and went there for pictures but we chose Heritage Park in Old Town for the ceremony, which included a park ranger for the ceremony and it was 1/10 the price! Check it out ;)

Our ceremony was held at Alcazar Garden in Balboa Park.

I think our permit cost ~$50 for this lovely and somewhat secluded spot - it's worth way more IMO. You will need to rent chairs if you want them because none are provided. There is a nice pergola that is perfect to have the ceremony at. Parking is right next to this garden and there is a bathroom close by. The only downside is they had to put iron bars around the beautiful tiled fountains because of skaters. Because this is a public park be prepared for random people watching you get married!
