This place is amazing! Because my daughter's wedding was a 50's theme this was the perfect backdrop! The view looking out onto the Harbor is killer. They give you have the option of having some of the major displays open for guests at an additional cost. The staff was very accommodating considering this is a museum. I would strongly suggest that you use a preferred caterer from their list as well as a rental company because they know all the ins and outs of where to drop off and how to set up. Keep in mind there are things they can't change as easily as other venues such as lighting. With that in mind, you will need additional lighting if you decide to have the wedding ceremony inside at night. I can't say enough great things about this place!

I hadn't been to the BMI since a childhood field trip, but when I visited the venue again, I knew immediately it was the one for us. My fiance and parents fell in love with it too - it is so quintessentially Baltimore. AND I would like to note that we looked at about 10 different venues in the area, ALL of which were significantly more expensive. The BMI is a great value for the money. It's huge! Our wedding was 110 people, but you could easily seat double that amount. Perfect for any size wedding, and the parking lot has 200 free spots.

We were married outside on the patio area, and our ceremony was absolutely breathtaking. The view in the background was incredible, and we had no altar and absolutely no flowers outside -- the backdrop is perfect enough by itself. Jessica was great to work with, although she left halfway through the planning process which was a bit tough. However, Claire, the newest coordinator, was very responsive via email.

Thirty minutes before the ceremony, the fire alarm in the building went off (talk about a panicked bride!). Angela (I think that was her name) was the woman on duty that evening, and she immediately called the Fire Department, and they came within 10 minutes to resolve the malfunction. The rest of the evening, she was very helpful and kind, routinely checking in to see if we needed anything.

What I love about this venue is how quirky and unique it is. Everyone was very impressed by the exhibits and had a great time browsing them all during cocktail hour. We danced the night away with the city skyline and Domino Sugar sign in the background. Our wedding was fantastic and I could not imagine a better venue than the BMI.

This venue is amazing. I would recommend it to anyone, especially if you, like me, want an ACTUAL water venue in Baltimore City. Many other venues have amazing water views but few have reception space with patios right next to the water. Everything about this location is amazing. The front desk worker during the event was the best even when my caterer lost the opening prayer that we had sent in advance with our table settings she ran around looking for it and found it just in time. My caterer made MANY mistakes and even through them all my guests had an amazing time and I would give full credit to the venue. It was just amazing to be there and be right on the water. Everything was great ( plus I didn't have to rent very much because they have tons of round tables and chairs that are included in your rental agreement!)

Everything really was great. Now I just need other people to get married there so I can enjoy the venue as a guest!!!!

A wonderful venue! Great view of the city and we loved seeing the Domino Sugar sign in the background. We held our cocktail hour outside on the patio overlooking the harbor. Our guests loved walking around the museum during cocktail hour, too. Museum staff was very helpful; we were able to stop by the museum several times to see the space, make plans, etc. The price was also very reasonable compared to other downtown locations. Highly recommended!

Gorgeous!!!!! Affordable, interesting, unique and fun! We had a sunset wedding overlooking the water & it was amazing. No need to decorate beyond a centerpiece because the exhibits are enough. Our friends and family from out of town loved the opportunity to walk around and look at the history. Plenty of space to move inside and out. Not to mention there is no worries about parking because they have a huge parking lot. Couldn't imagine having it anyplace else.

After attending a few dozen wedding receptions in the generic hotel ballroom, we wanted something different and memorable. The BMI was exactly what we were looking for. Our 230 guests absolutely loved it! It was a very unique and colorful background for our reception. Because the neon lights and displays are so interesting, we didn't need to spend so much money on elaborate centerpieces to decorate, and our photos are so cool!

We held the cocktail hour outside on the patio by the water with lovely evening views of the Harbor and Domino Sugar Plant. It was a little snug with 230 seated people, but everyone fit. Also, we had about 30 children among out guests, and we sat them near the Communications Room, which has theatre-like seats and a small stage. It was a prefect set-up for kids to play on the stage (away from the museum displays), and the parents could sit and watch comfortably from a distance. Coats racks were set up in the lobby, the bathrooms were clean and large enough accommodate so many guests, and there is a money-operated photo booth.

I highly recommend the BMI as a memorable, unique, and classy venue.

If you don't like planning or are not organized, having your wedding at the BMI could be stressful as there are a lot of moving pieces. The venue itself does not provide much and many items need to be rented. Our wedding turned out to be a HUGE success, after a lot of hard work. It was a warm evening in September. Our ceremony was in the pavilion, cocktail hour on the brick terrace, dinner in the Decker Gallery, and then back out of the brick terrace for dancing overlooking the skyline of Baltimore. It was absolutely beautiful. We received so many compliments on the venue and it's uniqueness and many guests commented on it being enjoyable because it wasn't a regular wedding venue. Parking is free, it's waterfront and in the city, you can't go wrong. Jessica was also great to work with. She was responsive, realistic, and helpful. The only advice I would give is to make sure that your DJ sets up multiple speakers because sound doesn't travel well through the gallery and make sure the running water is working because it wasn't in the bathrooms the night of our wedding!

This is a great place to have an event! Our wedding guests loved it, and raved about how neat and unique it was! We used the Decker room, and had our cocktail hour on the brick terrace. We had a slideshow DVD of photos from our childhoods and then pictures of us as a couple, and we were able to play it on loop in the theater that connects with the main room. I was happy we had an a wedding planner to help with getting things set up because they wouldn't let us drop anything off until the morning of the wedding and it would have been impossible to coordinate that on our own with all the chaos of the day, getting ready, etc. They provided round tables, and chairs, but they wouldn't allow us to use their long tables for the buffet so we had to rent those.
Also, if you are interested in this venue, and want to get married on a Saturday you need to talk to them over a year in advance! They book up EARLY.

Our day at the BMI was amazing. Jessica was extremely responsive and worked with us on the last minute changes. Our guests LOVED the venue probably more than we did. A few things to keep in mind: We were married and used the gallery and the brick terrace for cocktail hour...the problem w/ the BMI (if I HAD to find one) is it's so big that it gives people the opportunity to roam which means that people will be scattered when the big events happen (first dance, cutting the cake etc). Also, we had over around 200 people attend...the BMI gallery is long which means that if you have it set up with the dance floor along the water/windows, the people in the front of the museum can't see/hear whats happening on the dance floor. Our crowd was a bunch of dancers so they eventually made there way up but it was a bit frustrating knowing that guests in the back had no idea what was happening up front. Just some food for thought...aside from that, it was perfect.

We were married at the Baltimore Museum of Industry on June 21, 2013. It was an absolutely beautiful Friday night in the Inner Harbor. The promenade area overlooks the Domino Sugars, a Baltimore icon. We received many compliments about the uniqueness and beauty of this venue. My husband is a pilot and we loved the airplane that hung over the Decker Gallery. They also allow you to use the tv in their movie room to play your own video. My sisters made a video with pictures of us growing up that we played on loop all night. It was a special touch. Everyone we worked with at the BMI was very responsive. If they were out of office, their email or phone messages would let us know and they would get back to us as soon as they got back. To make the event even more special, we were even able to add a brick to the promenade memorializing our wedding day. We used the brick as the starting point of our isle. I do recommend that you rent chairs from another vendor though. The chairs that they provide are plastic and metal folding chairs. We rented chairs through our caterer and they helped to perfect the look that we were going for.

Let me start out by saying...a month after our wedding, we still have guests sending cards and calling, raving about how much they loved this place! My husband and I stumbled upon this south baltimore gem (located right next door to the domino sugar factory) and we could not be more thankful that we did! Set/hidden along the southern shore of the inner harbor, this museum that pays homage to the industrial development age in baltimore. From transportation (there are actual cars in the museum...and an airplane!) to the invention of neon (their neon signs are to die for!) to local pharmacies, soda counters, etc...this museum is SO FUN! We were married out on the dock (in front of the green gates) at sunset and returned inside (thank God for the air conditioning!) for our reception. We had 185 guests seated on the brick terrace (some caterers will tell you that's not possible, but stick to your guns! It is!) and sweet baby geese and ducks were walking/swimming along during our ceremony. It was incredible. Guests ventured back and forth from the terrace to the dance floor all night as the sun set and the neon lights of the city skyline, the museum, and the sugar factory lit up. Inside the museum people who were taking a break from dancing read about the history of baltimore and enjoyed a million and one photo opportunities with old friends and family members. Seriously! I cannot say enough fantastic things about this place! I must say though, you must keep an open mind when visiting. Some days, the tide is out really far and there is a lot of trash along the shoreline/dock. Don't let this scare you away! The staff of the museum works extra hard to make sure it's gone by your big day! The city of baltimore is in charge of the shoreline...so we all know how that goes. Thank god for the museum staff! And to boot, the staff of the museum are fantastic! They too became like family! They are fantastic! I could write a novel about this place! We. Loved. It! Check it out! :)

The Decker Gallery was perfect; it allowed us to have the ceremony outside and the reception inside. We were allowed to use the theater to play a DVD of pictures and our guests could walk around the museum during cocktail hour. Jessica was so helpful and went out of her way to help us with everything we planned. This venue is amazing!

The Baltimore Museum of Industry turned out to be the perfect venue for our daughter's wedding reception. Jessica made the whole contract process easy and Angie, the event coordinator was a dream to work with. While this was our first wedding, Angie has done this before, and puts you at ease about pulling the whole party together. Very helpful !!

The BMI was beyond amazing as a wedding venue. I had so many people compliment me on the "decorations" and the venue itself. I had both my ceremony (outside in the pavilion) and reception there and it worked out perfectly EVEN with a little rain at the end of the night. For anyone who is looking for a unique venue and has a large group this is perfect!

When my husband and I saw the venue, we immediately knew that this was the spot- the location is on the water (perfect for us since we had many out of town guests and wanted to show off the city we call home), Jessica (the person in charge) was really nice and responsive and the space is quirky, spacious and interesting. Throughout the planning, Jessica was responsive and matter of fact. She was always very straightforward and easy to deal with. Since we were getting married in March with unpredictable weather, we were also happy that there were a couple options for indoor/ outdoor ceremony. For our wedding, we had the cannery exhibition open for 2 hours and also had a slideshow dvd playing in the little theater inside the museum. All our guests had a wonderful time exploring the museum and walking through the different parts of the museum throughout the night. Highly recommend!!!

We held our wedding--ceremony & reception at the BMI. We knew the minute we walked in the door that this was the perfect venue for us. It has so much character and is a lovely setting for any special event. You pay a sizeable rental fee, but it was totally worth it and the fee lines up with most other venue rentals in the area. I received so many compliments about what a unique and fun venue it was. Everyone I spoke to at the BMI was very friendly --I stopped in many times after we booked the venue and they were all very accommodating! I will recommend this venue to many people in the future.

GORGEOUS! The BMI was the first place we looked and the last. We fell in love the moment we walked through the door. We had our ceremony on the dock at 6pm and it couldn't have been more perfect. Jessica was so easy to work with and very responsive. Our reception was held inside and with 171 guests and probably 30 staff and vendors it wasn't crowded at all. What a cool place, we loved it!

Our guests could not stop raving about the venue - they all enjoyed their time there and will remember and appreciate it over your typical ballroom. My guests loved the venue, there was so much to do and to look at! I would recommend going longer than 4 hours. We only did 4 hours and I felt like we were a bit rushed especially with the canary open and a picture slide show playing in their mini movie theater!!

We feel in love with the Baltimore Museum of industry as soon as we saw it. It was one of the first venues that we went to see and very easily because the place to beat. The grounds are amazing and inside the museum is impeccable. It is the perfect setting for a bride and groom who are looking for something a little different.

We worked with Jessica right from the beginning and she was great. She was really responsive to my emails and answered every single one of my questions in a really professional way. We really enjoyed working with Jessica to get everything coordinated and really liked how easy it was for our vendors to work with her and her staff as well.

Jessica was not at the BMI on the night of but she ensured us that her staff would take good care of us. They definitely did too. Candy was there on the night of and she was wonderful! Besides being really personable and helping my guest she went above and beyond helping to to re-stage our ceremony once the rain started and helping my mother and aunt with my elderly grandfather. She was AMAZING!

We had an amazing night at the BMI and so did our guests as we constantly receive compliments on "how cool" the museum was. Thanks to the BMI, specifically Jessica and Candy for helping to make our wedding incredible!

The BMI is an awesome venue to have a wedding at. When we originally showed our families the venue, they were a little confused as it's not traditional and they weren't sure how a wedding would work there. However, both sides of the family ended up falling in love with the venue and it's quirky, unique feel. Our guests loved wandering the venue and reading about Baltimore's industrial past. Jessica was also very responsive to our questions and concerns and the staff that worked the wedding were very attentive and considerate. If you're looking for a unique, quirky Baltimore venue on the water, you should really check out the BMI!

I'm so happy we had our wedding at the BMI, it was the perfect venue. The views are spectacular, the museum itself is so uniquely Baltimore and the guests loved it. We were able to arrive and exit via boat, which made our day even more special. Our brick was in place at the wedding, and was such a special touch. Jessica was fabulous to work with, as well! The only itty bitty suggestions I have is that they really upgrade their restrooms, and that it would be nice to be able to use their TVs for a photo slideshow. But otherwise, I really have no complaints!

I knew I wanted to get married here before I got engaged. Not only is it waterfront, but it's a unique venue that offers a lot of different options. We were married on the patio and had our wedding under the pavilion. Everything was beautiful and a got a lot of compliments about the view. Jessica, the events person was very nice to work with. She was professional, friendly, and easy to get in touch with. The price seemed to be on the cheaper side of average for Baltimore City, especially when you take the waterfront location into account. I would highly recommend!

The Decker Gallery at the Baltimore Museum of Industry was a spectacular location for our reception. Our family and friends (many of whom were from Baltimore) found a lot to talk about in relation to the exhibits. The view of the harbor was beautiful and the staff were professional and at all times.

Most importantly, the BMI staff worked to accommodate our needs and continued to hold our reception despite an impending hurricane. Things went smoothly at the reception thanks to the thoughtful organization of event director, Ms. Jessica Williams.

This is quirky place that--if it fits you as a couple--is a fantastic reception site (complete with a parking lot)!

The BMI is an awesome place for your reception - in my opinion, it's the best place in the Baltimore area. We had a lot of out of town guests that had never been to Baltimore and even the east coast before, so they loved that the location is right on the water. Besides being in a great location and being a great museum, there is also plenty of parking there, which is really difficult to come by in Baltimore. Jessica at the BMI is great to work, as well. All around, choosing the BMI for our reception was the starting point for having a great, memorable, so-glad-we-did-this wedding.

Having our wedding at the BMI was one of the best decisions we made. The space is amazing- maybe not for everyone, it is not very traditional, but then again, neither are we!
We ended up deciding on the space thanks to a rare Maryland blizzard and perhaps a little bit of fate- after looking at two venues in Baltimore, the snow became too much to travel to Annapolis (our original plan). The sites we saw in B-More were both lovely but one was too small, the other not available for the Saturdays we wanted. Stopping to eat lunch and figure out our next move, we met another engaged couple who had looked at the BMI as well, and said "it's one of those places that you know immediately if it is for you." We had decided at this point to consider a Sunday wedding, since we were getting married in only about 7 months, and available Saturdays were rare. We had originally written off the BMI for it's lack of available Saturdays, but now, considering a Sunday wedding and being unable to drive more than a few miles (the BMI only being 2 miles from where we were), we decided to give it a try.
As soon as we walked in we knew it was for us- the reception space is large, the museum is right on the harbor and has beautiful views, and it is quirky and lovely. With the storm, we were the only people there, and we arrived just 20 minutes or so before the museum closed- but they let us in and gave us the tour, then let us wander around as long as we needed to. There are a couple of options (the website gives details, though the pictures do not do the venue justice!), including whether you want the pavilion (where we had our ceremony) and how you want to set everything up (can pay a little extra to open some of the few rooms they close, can decide to have cocktail hour in outside or inside, etc). You basically have almost the entire museum open to you and your guests, giving people lots to do and look at. They provide a couple of staff members for the day, ours very sweetly gave the kids at our reception a tour of the place, showed them how to work the printing press, even let them use the very cute theater to watch a DVD.
You won't need to decorate much, as the exhibitions are everywhere. The Decker gallery is large, open, and was perfect for our reception, with plenty of space for lots of tables and dancing, with an entire wall of windows looking out onto the harbor, and doors to go out onto the patio along the water. There is even a small cafeteria room off of the main gallery, which we used as the "kids room."
The BMI is not an inexpensive venue, and does require separate day-of insurance, but it was more than worth it (you get an enormous amount for the price)! Plus we know the cost is going to the museum and the Inner Harbor, so it is going to a good cause.
You are even given the option of purchasing a brick, on which they can print what you request (ours with our names and the date of our wedding) and install in on the promenade that circles the Inner Harbor, the "Buy-A-Brick" cost going to the care of the Inner Harbor.
We were in contact with Jessica Williams to rent the venue, ask any questions we had, etc and she was always quickly responsive and helpful. They let us stop by and wander around taking pictures when we were in the area. The staff at the museum on the day of the wedding were very friendly and sweet, and even looked like they had a little fun too! We had to make some quick changes due to the weather, and they and the rest of our vendors managed the changes seamlessly. Examples: the staff rolled down the weather-protective sides of the pavilion as it stormed, then as it cleared right before the ceremony, rolled them back up and started the fans to keep the pavilion cool and comfortable. Our cocktail hour was originally planned for the patio but we asked that it be moved it with the crazy storms and heat, and the staff (and our great caterers) took all this in stride. We had also originally planned to get there early to take pictures outside, and then move inside around the time the museum closed to the public, but with the weather we had to start everything inside- again, the staff were always accommodating.
We received a huge amount of praise for the venue- it is unusual, beautiful, has both outdoor, on the water space still with a city feel, and a big spacious unique indoor space. Parking there is free (!), the staff is great, and we could not be happier with our venue choice. I could go on and on but won't- it is a fantastic venue.

This venue is fantastic if you are looking to step back into the past. We selected this museum because we wanted our photos to have some character an that is exactly what we got. The backdrop you get for the price is fabulous. They are pretty set in time frames and cost, but they don't miss a beat.

The BMI is a wonderful venue for a reception. Many of our guests were from out of town and had never been to Baltimore before. They were able to see a beautiful view of the city skyline at night (luckily we had good weather so guests could go outside a bit as well) and explore the museum a bit to learn about our wonderful city! The price for the venue is so much cheaper than many other venues for what you get, and they have an extensive list of caterers to choose from for food. Our guests raved about the location!

The setting at the Baltimore Museum of Industry (BMI) is magnificent. The facility itself makes for a unique and memorable wedding scenario, and the views of the harbor, combined with the (very rare downtown) free parking, are fabulous. My main complaint was with the event contact person. I found her to be hard to get in touch with, and as my event got closer, I found her to be downright rude.

The caterers are brought in from an approved list, and my caterer was fantastic. Just beware that the price you pay for this venue is a nasty contact person handling your reservation.

Great venue. Acoustics provide a challenge for large party, so make sure you have an experienced DJ.

Parking is not a problem at the BMI they have a 200 space lot that is enclosed We used Biddle Street Catering from the BMI's approved list and they did a wonderful job. We hired Spectrum Band from the Washington Talent Agency. We were so happy that we hired a band. They were great. Love the BMI!

We were married at the Baltimore Museum of Industry on 7/5/13. If you are a non-traditional person, looking for a creative, innovative and unique way of putting on an amazing wedding for an affordable cost, check this place out. The competition to the BMI was the Visionary Arts Museum in Fed Hill, the cost there was double the cost of the BMI, and I could have an amazing waterfront ceremony. Also, it is literally a 2 minute drive to Federal Hill, and I still can't tell which pictures are better, the waterfront photos at the BMI with the Domino Sugar factory in the background, or the awesome hill top photos of the Harbor. The Staff at the BMI were very accommodating, and Jessica was always kind and thoughtful. This place is AMAZING!
