We are hosting our wedding in 2017, so I will have to post a review after the ceremony and reception to detail how things go, but I have to say everything up until this point has been exemplary. Amy and Kirby are responsive via email and always answer my questions and address concerns in a timely manner. We cannot wait until our wedding day and we are so excited to host our special day at the Blue Dress Barn!

The only advice I would have is to not charge extra for taking down the flags above the dance floor, maybe have them down and if people want to add it them to charge instead of charging clients to take away a feature instead of adding it.

blue dress barn responded with the following comments:

Thanks for the feedback. 99% of our couples love what we offer and what "comes with" the barn. Every so often a couple would like something removed and there is no charge.... The "flags" or bunting (by proper description) can be challenge and a big job. We did not charge you for the purpose of "making a profit"? but we charge you a "service charge" for hiring a staffer to get a ladder take them down and then come back the next day and put them back for the next bride and many more who love them. We do not intend on making a profit off of what we already have stated are included. Thanks again!

My husband and I got married at the Blue Dress Barn on July 22, 2016! It was everything we could've wanted and more! Amy was so easy to talk to throughout the entire process and even completely redid our seating chart before the wedding! Tasha was amazing as well. She was always so nice and wanted to help with anything that she could to make our day run smoother! We are still receiving tons of compliments on the venue and how beautiful everything was. I highly recommend choosing the Blue Dress Barn for your wedding!

We were married at the Barn on 10-15-16. It was absolutely perfect. All of our guests traveled from out of town and at least 60% had never been to Michigan before. Everyone was blown away by how beautiful the area and the venue itself was. So many people told us it was the most beautiful and unique wedding they had ever been to. It was truly the best night of our lives!

Plans were moving forward until about 1 year before our wedding date, my fiancé’s grandmother (whom my fiancé was extremely close to) passed away suddenly. My fiancé’s grandmother played a large part in the planning of our wedding and was in the middle of making the veil. After much discussion, my fiancé and I decided to postpone our wedding as to not celebrate our wedding anniversary near such a sad day. We were also hoping that Amy and Kirby would be understanding to our situation and give us at least a portion of the deposit back.
We were wrong. Not only did they flat out refuse to give us a fraction of the deposit back, but they were incredibly insensitive, rude, and plain nasty. We explained our situation and offered to find another couple to ensure they did not take a loss on the date. They abruptly refused and stated our deposit was non-refundable. We told them that we understood the terms of the contract but hoped that they would work with us to refund at least a portion of the deposit given our limited budget and circumstances surrounding the postponement. After a few ignored voicemails, I called and finally spoke with Kirby. Kirby was immediately argumentative, refused to listen to reason, and yelled at me. When I offered to find a substitute for our date, Kirby threatened legal action against my fiancé and I. Kirby indicated that he would “have no trouble finding a couple to take our date”, confirming the fact that he would not lose any money if they returned our deposit. He kept interrupting my attempts to reach a compromise with stating that the non-refundable deposit is an “industry standard” and that no matter what we offered or how much we “begged and pleaded”, he would not be returning “even one penny of our deposit”. This was ironic given the fact that our caterer and photographer both refunded our deposit without issue and were complete professionals throughout the process.

Words cannot describe how breathtakingly beautiful Blue Dress Barn is and the area surrounding it. This is truly a magical place for a wedding. The ceremony site itself is such a perfect setting and inside the barn is so gorgeous and rustic and you honestly don’t have to do anything extra to decorate it. The owner, Amy, was always responsive and super helpful with any questions I had, and Tasha was awesome and on top of her game with everything. When you book with Blue Dress, you are also given a list of local vendors, which was extremely helpful since my wedding was a destination. At night you have access to a fire pit and nice sitting area (we had a s'mores station here), there is a balcony overlooking the ceremony site (perfect if you are having a band/musician for your ceremony) and there are string lights outside at various points, which make the whole place look magical. There is also a unique bridal suite and a “man camp” (vintage-y trailer) for both parties to get ready/hang out before the ceremony, which were awesome touches. I have had countless people tell me how beautiful and different our wedding was and how much they loved the Barn. Our wedding at Blue Dress was absolutely perfect and I couldn’t be happier with how amazing everything turned out. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful space with us for our big day!

I got married at Mill Creek Barn, Amy and Kirby also own Blue Dress barn and Sundance studios.

Let me start off my just saying that wedding planning wasn't my favorite, I lived 3 hours away from the venue. Amy and Kirby made it easy to get things done. I mainly worked with Kirby and he was great. Wehad a phone conversation and it was like I had known him for forever. He made me feel comfrotable and content. Amy was great with getting me names of vendors and her opinions on them. The only problem was the week before the wedding and I was losing my mind because we went out to that side of the state we week prior to our wedding and the house was horrible with wifi so answering emails was a nightmare. We tried to get ahold of Kirby to just go over things on last time but through the lack of wifi and phone tag, it was not the greatest time. However, we got through it and everything was PERFECT!

The venue itself is jaw dropping. Everyone talks about Blue Dress and Sundance and for obvious reasons. However, Mill Creek is where it's at. We went with a fancy touch to the barn "theme". Greenery every where, mercury glass, candles, it was absolutely stunning. The barn staff were amazing. They talked to you as if they have known you for years, and they were great with my guests. Everyone was blown away by how beautiful this barn is, and how its set back in the middle of the woods. I was so sad packing up everything knowing I wouldn't be back to the barn.

One thing that made me nervous was making sure we and all the vendors were out of there by midnight, or we would be charged. I would suggest to new brides considering any of these three venues to be organized and apoint certain people to do things so you aren't running around like a crazy person. It went better than I had thought and we made the deadline!

Overall, I have not a bad thing to say about this venue or owners. I will rave about this spot for years to come! Thanks Amy, Kirby & The Mill Creek staff! xo

My wedding at millcreek barns could nt have been more charming or unique...I loved that it was tucked away on a country road, yet had all the modern amendities . The artist touches were perfect and the grounds were simple but well kept. The owners were very friendly and helpful. My guests really enjoyed themselves! I highly recommend MILLCREEK to anyone!

My experience with Millcreek was very good; however, my mother-in-law and the florist did not have any nice things to say about one of the owners, Kirby. I guess he was very hot and cold with him and he wasnt willing to negotiate on the time we were to get in the barn (I asked to get in at 11:30 am and he was absolutely not budging) and he did charge us $300 for a half hour that we were late getting out (in all fairness it stated those charges in the contract). I will say Amys personality seems far more suited for this type of business and it seems as though Kirby should be the behind the scenes kind of guy. He was very upset about them hanging chandeliers and the candy sign for the candy buffet; he also did not like that they wanted to place initial signs that were on huge wooded boards in front of the barn by the old windmill fixture but Kirby told them they would mess with the flowers (which werent there yet)so they put them at the edge by the fence turning into the barn). We brought all of their own items needed for decorating the grounds (including extended ladder and such) but he was still pretty rude about it all. There was some girl that seemed to take Kirbys place at the end of the night and I overheard her calling and saying there just now taking the flowers downit was funny, she didnt look a day older then 16 but turns out she was working for them but we didnt know because they failed to tell us this fact (nice to know if something went wrong). Things to consider: The grounds and what flowers will be planted, the flowers might not be as plentiful as you would like. Having heaters on standby, I only heard of one person that said they were chilly but everyone else was on the dance floor and in the bar area and they were fine (I had my mother double check on grandmothers and such who would have been honest for sure). I highly recommend having transportation for guests that are out of town (all of mine were), it helped make the night carefree and everyone wasnt worried about going back and fourth, I used the Ramadas free transportation and hired out an 25 pp limo bus to go back and fourth to the Blvd Have an after party planned because the DJ has to stop at 11 pm and you need to be out of there by 12 pm and if you have family and friends who love to party then youll want to go somewhere after (we went to our hotel suite and down to Lake Michigan).> Think of a day of coordinator if you havent already decided on having one, she really helped moved things along and I hired her in a panic 3 weeks out! The grounds were pretty but I went the night before the wedding with one of my bridesmaids we actually started weeding some of the flower beds (again, we were only the 2nd or 3rd wedding so those items might be taking care of by the time of everyone elses wedding). The dj was worried about the sound system getting to the dining area but it was absolutely perfect, no worries at all. Our officiant found a podium and wireless microphone for the ceremony and that was a last minute addition and it was a good move (she suggested it). I didnt decorate the arbor besides with ferns and small tins with daisies lining the aisle, the setting speaks for itself. ****The vendor actually read this post on another review site and emailed me some pretty un-professional respones to my reviews. My intention was not to offend anyone but I feel that my review was true for our situation and I stand behind it. Wedding are expensive and stressful as well as wonderful and memorable. People deserve to see other perspectives and that's what wedding review sites are for, not just smoke and mirrors. The place is unique and if you are willing to deal with a staff that may not exceed or maybe meet your expectations then its for you, hopefully they make changes so they can really have a great venue.
