STUNNING! Just absolutely stunning! Calamigos Ranch was the first venue we visited, and no other venue in LA came close. I imagined my wedding being in an outdoorsy, woodsy, whimsical, almost fairy-tale like setting and I knew it would difficult if not impossible to find in Southern California. Calamigos Ranch was the only place we found that fit the bill perfectly! We were really happy with the wedding team's professionalism (especially Ashia) and also the staff that helped us the day of the wedding were so helpful and definitely went above and beyond. It was a nice touch that once we sat down at our table, we had hor d'oeuvres on a platter waiting for us, which you'll appreciate because during cocktail hour we spent most of it saying our hellos and taking pictures with our guests. At the end of the night, the wait staff also put together a sampling of all our desserts in a to-go box since we didn't get to eat much of it throughout the night. So thoughtful!
The only downside I have to say is that Calamigos is a little pricey. There were also a few 'surprises' that we didn't expect because unless you ask, they won't tell you. Surprise #1, 20% service charge is automatically added on and service charge is also then taxed. Surprise #2, under 149 guests you pay a slightly higher per person price vs over 150 is a slightly lower price. We were expecting about 150-160 guests, but were told to start with a low guest count cause you can always add on. We shouldn't have. We ended up having about 165 guests, but still had to pay the higher per person price since that's what we originally signed on the contract. It doesn't automatically adjust to the lower per person price once you hit 150 guests. Surprise #3, adding on extra hours of bar service (for beer/wine, not liquor) means you will have to pay for all the kids as well. Surprise #4, when we signed our contract, the price per person for hor d'oeuvres was set, but they can change it on you at anytime like they did to us.

An absolutely breath taking venue. It was my first choice and I'm so happy I went and saw it in person. It is so amazing and a gorgeous place to step away from reality and into your own world.

I was looking to have our small wedding here at Calamigos Ranch (about 85 guests) After falling in love with the venue from photos I had seen... once I saw it in person, I was surprised again to see how beautiful and whimsical the venue really was... I was disappointed though to find out that there was a minimum amount of $13K that needed to be met which my 85 person count didn't total to... so I had to find other ways to reach that minimum...and then they add their 20% service charge on top of the $13K and tax both the subtotal and service charge...so for an 85 person wedding we were looking at about $17,400 and that didn't include any extra hours of event time, or anything extra for that matter.... if we wanted extras, it would've been more money.... so we ultimately decided to go with another venue ... and was able to do a lot more and add more of our own personal touches with the estate we decided to rent.

So, trying to critique this place is a little bit like trying to critique Disneyland. It's absolutely gorgeous & they know it. The place practically sells itself, which unfortunately results in their not trying very hard. I didn't even know it existed until I googled and an independent web site billed it as a good choice for brides who don't want to make too many decisions (that was me!). I liked the look of it online as well as the location - & didn't mind the wedding factory aspect; we went and saw it (only venue we saw) a week after we got engaged and booked it on the spot. We're older & didn't want a long engagement - so when we heard that the Redwood Room was available on a Saturday in June 6 months out, we jumped on it.

Don't get me wrong - I absolutely had the dream wedding I didn't even know I wanted, but there are areas of improvement. When the groom arrived, the valets refused to park my car! They were apparently only parking cars for the Cafe, so he had to park himself way over by the Oak Room, which was less than convenient at the end of the night when we had to pack everything up.

While I understand that many venues do this, it was annoying not to have access to the bridal prep area until two hours before the ceremony (basically during first look & picture time if you're doing them). It was unusually hot that weekend and the A/C was not working. We said something, then they sent to maintenance guys in right when I was about to step into my dress (basically done with the bridal prep area).

The initial contract was based on the minimum # for the space & our final count reached the threshold for the next price tier. We had to point this out & request the correction.

Based on our tasting experience, we were scared about the quality of the food (again the not trying very hard thing), but that actually turned out fine. My meat was not well-marbled, but it was not overcooked as we feared that it might be. The wait staff were really great though.

My wedding was a beautiful event, thanks in part to the natural beauty of Calamigos Ranch. That said, that was the only value I found in using Calamigos as my venue.

The quality of service and support was awful. Cindy, in particular, was incredibly rude on multiple occasions to my fiance, my mother and me. Because there was no consistent point of contact through the planning process, the misinformation was a major problem. The one example of terrible service I will give is the fact that THERE IS ONE FOOD TASTING. We were told there were multiple when we signed the contract and then months later we were notified that there was only one tasting. Furthermore, we were only notified of the ONE TASTING one month prior to the tasting date. And the tasting was a Thursday afternoon. My fiance at the time and I travel for work constantly and could not change our schedules in time to accommodate the venue. Why should we, the customers, have to accommodate the wedding venue?

Additionally, there were hidden charges and our vendors had many complications with communication. In summary, Calamigos is a beautiful venue but BE CAREFUL.

Our wedding was truly spectacular and a fairytale come true. The venue was so beautiful, with waterfalls and a gorgeous lit-up weeping willow tree in the middle of the outdoor deck for dinner. At night it managed to be even more wonderful when it was all lit up. Since we were having our wedding at Calamigos, we were able to have our rehearsal lunch at Malibu Cafe on the same property, with a private island and bar all our own. I would recommend this venue to anyone for a wedding or special event. The only thing is that they're sticklers with time and it's not the kind of place where you can come in the morning and spend all day setting up. They're strict with start times and end times. You don't get a ton of set up time so your vendors need to be well-informed and prompt. Still, it was a wonderful experience and our guests said it was one of the best weddings they had ever been to.

This was our second venue we found and we fell in love with it as soon as we did. The venue is absolutely gorgeous. Dreamy, rustic, romantic, and relaxing..everything we wanted. The service was great, everyone is so nice and helpful, communicated great with me through the entire process, and answered any questions we had. Reminded us when things were needed or due, and I never had a problem with them. We got married at The Oak Room, while all the different areas were beautiful, this was the most fitting for us, and it was so unreal. The venue has a lot included with the prices, but it definitely is not a cheap place. It was completely worth it though, the dinner buffet was delicious, not a single thing I did not like. The service for the wedding party through the night was way more then what i expected. Served us drinks all night, and made sure we had everything we needed...Not only did we do our Ceremony & Reception here, we also rented "The Island" for our rehearsal dinner, which was so romantic, secluded, and again, the food was delicious. Calamigos is amazing, and gave us the greatest memories of our life. Highly Recommend.

Calamigos was a gorgeous wedding venue. The staff there was very professional, and for an absent minded person such as myself, their reminder emails were extremely helpful to make sure things were done in a timely fashion. The food they provide is DELICIOUS. My guests raved that this was the best wedding food that they had ever had. Beautiful!

Calamigos was great. They provide everything but DJ, photographer, cake, and officiant. Their staff is very friendly and very responsive. You are required to have a day of coordinator, which I would recommend regardless. I'm so happy that this is where I got married and I would recommend it to anyone. The only thing to know going in is that they only do food tastings two or three times a year, and you really only try the upgraded menu, not the standard one. Have no fear though, all of the food is delicious.
