I booked the fellowship hall, which is actually a gym, for the reception. I did not use this church for my ceremony, as I had an outdoor wedding. They charged me full price as if I were using it for both, but I was on a time crunch, so I had no choice but to use them, despite the fact that they charge $450 for use, $100 of which is a damage deposit. They said they HAD to charge so much because of risk of liability for theft, etc. She told me she could show me the classrooms I could use to get ready, but I didn't think we would need them at the time. I went up to the church to decorate the night before the wedding, and I called 411 to get the secretary's number and I called her and let her know that we would be using classrooms to get ready. She said that was fine. On the day of the reception, there was a sign on the door saying the gym had been reserved until 8, even though I had asked to have it reserved until 9:30. After the reception, she showed up to "make sure [we had] everything in good enough shape to get our deposit back." She said we were fine, that everything looked good, and that we needed to leave because the youth group met in the gym at 7. I was ticked, but since she said everything was in order, there wasn't much I could say, so my clean up crew and I went and set outside in the rain, waiting on the people who were cleaning up the ceremony area to get back with the cars. I called the next day to tell them that we had left my cell phone charger and one of the bridesmaid dresses upstairs, and that the people who helped us clean accidentally packed a few things that were actually the church's, but no one answered, so I left a message with my number and reason for calling. That was Sunday at 7:00. They never called back, although they are in the office everyday 9 to 3. I then got a letter on Wednesday saying that we would not get our damage deposit back because:
-The trash can one of my bridesmaids was using in case she got sick (she was getting over the stomach flu) was in the wrong place.
-The flower girls had dropped some petals in the floor while walking.
-We left a dress hanging on the door (that made me laugh since that is something that was forgotten, and I specifically called about it).
-One of the Jr bridesmaids (I found out later) had written mine and my husbands name on two white boards.
-There were diapers in the trash can (No I'm not kidding, this was listed as a reason).
-In another classroom, the teacher said that we used it to entertain kids since glitter and glue were open. Too bad the only children at the wedding were the flower girls who stayed with their moms and got there 10 minutes before the wedding.
-We apparently used the wrong classrooms, even though we were never told which classrooms to use and not use.

I have tried calling several times since then, and no one will answer my calls, so now I have to drive all the way up there to get the bridesmaid dress and hope they still have it and will give it back.
