Sharon and Brennan of the Carlyle Club absolutely made our wedding reception a magical one. The decor of the new location is first-rate... they have put their personal blood, sweat & tears into creating a space that is both intimate and functional. No empty, white-walled ballroom or conference room to try to fill... we actually chose our colors/theme/flowers to match the club! The service was prompt and professional, and the food... well, a simple "plentiful and delicious" just doesn't do it justice. Well-prepared filet, lobster, scallops, lamb, oysters... our guests were in awe. Many Facebook and Instagram pics of the food were posted that night! The adjoining bar (not a guy behind a wheeled cart) easily accommodated the majority of our guests during cocktail hour and the service was brisk throughout the night. The sound system was plug & play for our DJ. No hidden fees, no upcharges, and if there's something Sharon has in her stock room that you need/forgot, she'll gladly let you use it. And all this for less than many other venues in Old Town!

We originally reserved with the Carlyle while they were still at the old venue; we were attracted by that venue's spacious bar area, the booth seating, the art deco aesthetics, and the fully equipped dancefloor.

Two months after we'd booked we got an email from Brennan announcing that they were going to be moving venues, and that our wedding reception would be at the new one; they hoped to be finished by early February - and that didn't happen. When we visited in mid April, just 3 weeks before our wedding, they were still hanging light fixtures, laying carpet, installing the sound system, and so on. They had everything more or less functional by the actual night, and for that we're thankful - but their move added a whole pile of stress to our wedding planning that we really didn't need.

The sound and lighting system wasn't complete. The bar speakers weren't connected to the DJ system, so announcements weren't audible. The dancefloor lighting didn't work, and nobody (including Sharon, the owner) knew how to make them work (their light and sound guy "had a gig" somewhere else.) The speakers aren't right for the venue; at low volumes (during dinner) there's far too much bass, and vocals weren't audible; at higher volumes later in the night it all sounded muddy.

The food is OK, but not great. The portions are generous.

Finally, and worst, is the availability and responsiveness of the owners, Brennan and Sharon. They're nice, and in person accomodating. However, if you work with them, expect most of your calls to go unanswered, most emails and voicemails to not be returned. When we did connect, Sharon would blame her voicemail provider, their ISP, their email being hacked, etc etc; all that may be true, but I think

I have been putting off this review because I have been hopeful that the owners of the club, Sharon and Brennan, would come through on their promise, but it hasn't happened and I need to share what happened.
I signed a contract to have my wedding and reception at the club last April (2014). I visited the club, met with Sharon and Brennan, and my husband and I really liked the vibe and the amenities and value. We signed our contract to have our wedding there this past March (2015). They were a little slow to answer emails in the beginning, but I always got the information I needed within a couple days so I just chalked it up to them being busy.
Fast forward to September of 2014. I received an email saying that the club was moving to a new location and it would be ready in Jan of 2015. This came as a huge surprise to me, as they never even hinted at this when we initially met. I was annoyed, but the pictures of the updated club looked appealing and I thought it would be cool to be one of the first weddings in the new club. They assured me it would be ready on time.
Can't write as many words on here as I want to so I'll have to summarize- visited the club at new location at least 2 more times, was told repeatedly not to worry, everything would be done on time.
Received a call the Monday before my wedding (FIVE DAYS before) and was told we should come up with a plan B in case club wasn't ready. PLAN B!??!? I bawled all night.
Tuesday I was told for sure it wouldn't be ready. 4 DAYS before my wedding. She wanted to move my wedding to the Westin. I was outraged.
My sister-in-law is an interior designer and helped spruce up the ballroom and Sharon said she would pay my mom back for anything we purchased to make that room feel like the club. To this day, she will not return emails or calls from me, my sister-in-law, or my mom about this. We are involving attorneys. The worst thing is that I never got a real apology from them

Our entire experience was outstanding and we couldn't imagine a better place for our wedding reception. Thanks to the efforts of owners Sharon and Brennan we had a smooth and stress free experience, and were able to enjoy the reception as much as our guests. The wealth of knowledge and experience they brought to our event allowed us to focus on other aspects of the wedding knowing that our reception choices would be executed flawlessly. They offered complete flexibility between picking and choosing pieces of different packages and acomadating dietary needs. Their coordination with our other vendors was especially appreciated since on the day we didn't have anything to worry about. The ambience was perfect and our guests enjoyed a wonderful evening of dinner, drinks and dancing. As if that wasn't enough the food was first class. From the passed appetizers to fantastic main courses of Lamb or Filet Mignon our guests were blown away, in addition the portion sizes were generous so no one went hungry. I can't recommend this venue highly enough both for quality of execution and value.

My husband and I were married and hosted our reception at the Carlyle Club on October 25, 2014. We both would highly, and without reservation, recommend the venue for several reasons.
The Owners: I’ll start off with the most important reason we were happy with our wedding: the owners Brennan and Sharon. When you are planning a wedding, the knowledge that an aspect of the wedding is “taken care of” is comforting. From the day we first met them, they were professional, polite, and always communicative (a very important consideration). Brennan was mostly responsible for the “business” side of the booking and would respond promptly to any e-mail. Sharon was an excellent (but not pushy) source of advice and recommendations (we used her recommendations for flowers, the DJ, and the cakes). Both were hands on (in a good way) owners. They were present from set-up through break-down and Sharon doubled as our “day of” coordinator. We cannot say enough positive things about how well we were treated and how important it was to us. Location: The Carlyle Club is located off Duke Street just a mile or so out from Old Town proper. For local guests it is a few blocks walk from the King Street Metro (if they choose to use the Metro). For out of town guests it is there are several very nice hotels within a 5 block radius of the hotel (any of which have excellent pricing arrangements for weddings). In addition to being well-situated, the neighborhood is clean and safe (guests will have no worry walking back to the hotel after the reception). The Venue: The Club has the feel of a very elegant art deco jazz and supper club – which it is when not hosting weddings. One of the strong draws of the Carlyle Club is the idea that you pay a flat price per head that includes the venue, food, and drink. The Food and Drink: Excellent. The food is simply amazing (we loved the lamb!) and served promptly in ample portions. Overall: We loved the Carlyle Club!

When we first started searching the DC metro area for venues, we were shocked by just how much we were expected to spend and how little we would be getting for the price, in most cases little more than an empty building for which we'd have to pay even more money to fill with crazy expenditures like...tables.

Last weekend I had my wedding reception at the Carlyle Club. It was literally everything I dreamed it would be and more! Leading up the event, Brennan and Sharon (the owners) were very flexible in meeting with me and discussing requests. They worked within our budget, and they were very knowledge about wedding topics. As I was planning my wedding, they were able to answer all my questions - both big and small. The venue also allowed me to drop off my favors and centerpieces the day before, and they also worked around my baker's schedule for the cake drop off. The food they serve is delicious, and all my guests were raving about it as well. The servers take orders once guests arrive, so I didn't have to worry about collecting food orders ahead of time. I cannot recommend this venue enough to couples looking to have a relaxed, stress free, awesome reception. It is so classy, but also easily accessible right off of Duke street. They have a parking garage with an elevator attached to it so guests don't have to walk far. Lastly, if you have any guests who aren't into dancing, there are tables outside next to the red carpet (which makes for a grand entrance and exit!). My older relatives loved sitting outside during the dancing part of my reception! If you are in doubt about choosing a venue, don't look further than the carlyle club! I originally had another venue booked at the start of my wedding planning, but I cancelled it to make a reservation at the carlyle club. I don't regret my decision one bit!

Last weekend I had my wedding reception at the Carlyle Club. It was literally everything I dreamed it would be and more! Leading up the event, Brennan and Sharon (the owners) were very flexible in meeting with me and discussing requests. They worked within our budget, and they were very knowledge about wedding topics. As I was planning my wedding, they were able to answer all my questions - both big and small. The venue also allowed me to drop off my favors and centerpieces the day before, and they also worked around my baker's schedule for the cake drop off. The food they serve is delicious, and all my guests were raving about it as well. The servers take orders once guests arrive, so I didn't have to worry about collecting food orders ahead of time. I cannot recommend this venue enough to couples looking to have a relaxed, stress free, awesome reception. It is so classy, but also easily accessible right off of Duke street. They have a parking garage with an elevator attached to it so guests don't have to walk far. Lastly, if you have any guests who aren't into dancing, there are tables outside next to the red carpet (which makes for a grand entrance and exit!). My older relatives loved sitting outside during the dancing part of my reception! If you are in doubt about choosing a venue, don't look further than the carlyle club! I originally had another venue booked at the start of my wedding planning, but I cancelled it to make a reservation at the carlyle club. I don't regret my decision one bit! Read less

The Carlyle Club was incredible to me and my wife. We were on a tight budget, and they worked with us to provide everything we wanted (and more-i.e. open bar for two hours, etc.) at our wedding reception without going over our price range. The food portions were huge (which is rare for a wedding venue), the separate bar area was excellent, and the dance floor was perfect size (slightly on the smaller end so that no one felt like they were seperate from the crowd while dancing=perfect). The owners are some of the classiest, kindest professionals I've ever dealt with. You gotta use this place!

The Carlyle Club was incredible to me and my wife. The Carlyle Club was the absolute best venue to hold our daughter's wedding reception! The staff was so accommodating to our needs and special requests. The food at the reception was fabulous and one of our guests remarked that it may be the best food she has ever tasted. The guests loved the fact that they were given options and raved about the lobster bisque, steak, and lobster tails. The intimate atmosphere kept everyone close by and able to see from every vantage point. Our friends and family loved the fact that it wasn't a typical square room that you see all the time. The staff allowed us the flexibility to plan our ideal wedding while making suggestions along the way. It was never "the nightmare" that people had warned us about. When we arrived the room looked spectacular and as my husband put it best, "They exceeded my expectations and my expectations were high to begin with!" It was a convenient location for our guests who were staying nearby and easy to navigate for several of our elderly family members. I can't say enough about how pleased we were with the Carlyle Club. We would highly recommend it to family and friends who are a needing a place to hold a wedding reception or special dinner or event.

From the beginning of the process of working with the Sharon and Brennan things could not of been better. Their knowledge of the process, their flexibility and patience made the process from the very beginning up to the Big Day very easy. And on the Big Day, they far exceeded my expectations. A true testament of their operation, the atmosphere of the facility, the food, the service, etc.... is the emails, texts and phone calls days after the reception from our guest complementing how great the reception was! Not one complainant or negative comment, which never happens. The only comments that we have gotten (and we have received a lot) are so positive. Comments like: "Food was off the charts", the "courtesy of the staff was the best", the "place looked beautiful" "top shelf establishment" ........Thanks Sharon and Brennan for enabling us to share this great day with our daughter, our families and our guests......
