I was interested in the Carnegie before I even got engaged, and I can easily say that it lived up to my standards from the moment we first visited to the end of the reception. Becky was outstanding through the whole process! She gave us such a thorough walk through and answered all of my detailed questions. She was so responsive to emails. All of our guests were wowed by the space, particularly the gorgeous rotunda. The older guests also appreciated that the dining room was separate from the dancing during the reception, so they were better able to hear conversations. My favorite moment from the ceremony was when I walked down the grand staircase, such a wow moment and our guests loved it!

We picked the Carnegie for our wedding because we felt it was one of the most beautiful spaces in the city. It truly made for an elegant ceremony. Ana, our contact person at the Carnegie was wonderful with work with. This is truly a gem in wedding venues.

Hands down one of the best venues in DC for a wedding and reception. Ana was wonderful to work with. They were so flexible with us regarding bringing and then picking up all of our DIY things. If you are getting married in the round, 110 is really the max you can fit in the space comfortably. Not the best venue for a band.

I just got married at the Carnegie Institution for Science on May 7, 2016, and boy - what a venue! The space is so classy, gorgeous and has several options for a wedding. Guests have fluidity in moving about the space, and the rotunda makes an excellent ceremony and dance floor space. Our wedding had 125 guests, and it was perfect & not overcrowded. I worked with Becky Hudson who was lovely, responsive, and professional. I highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a classic & gorgeous wedding in the heart of DC! One note, I went with adding an additional hour to package and it was well worth it. We didn't want to leave!

As soon as I started looking at venues for my wedding reception, I knew that I wanted to see the Carnegie, but was afraid it would be out of our budget. Needless to say, I was thrilled when I found out that it was within our budget, and booked a time to check it out. Within 5 minutes of being inside, I knew I wanted to have my reception there. We worked with Ana to reserve the space, and she was awesome to work with. She was flexible as far as letting me bring my parents to view the space when they came to town, and she never made me feel pressured that I had to get things done a certain way or by a certain time. And when it came time for the reception, the place looked like something out of a magazine. It was beautiful, and everything I could have hoped for.

As soon as my husband and I saw this space we knew we had to get married here! It was a little more expensive then we wanted to spend, but still reasonable. Every Saturdays had been booked long in advance so we decided to get married on a Friday. We worked with Ana, who is so sweet and fun! She was very accommodating about letting us drop off supplies beforehand and letting our parents come see the space. She never made us feel like a nuisance! We had both our ceremony and reception here. It goes without saying that this building is drop dead gorgeous. Our guests couldn't stop gushing over it! The lighting is a photographer's dream and it's impossible to take a bad picture of the space. Also, the acoustics are awesome. Neither our officiant nor our readers needed microphones and all 124 guests could hear without a problem. We had a string quartet play from the balcony for the ceremony and it sounded heavenly! We did not book the outside space and I wish we had since the cocktail hour was a little cramped since they were flipping the rotunda space. Other than that everyone fit perfectly! I'm glad we didn't go over the 130 guest mark. I'm glad we didn't have to worry about the weather, since it was all indoors. It got a little warm in the cocktail room later in the evening, but the rotunda stayed nice and cool. I worried about guests not being able to find the bathrooms (since they aren't on the main floor) or guests with mobility issues. I worried for nothing. The elevators made it really convenient and it was no problem! My one word of caution is having glasses on the rotunda floor. That marble floor is gorgeous but as soon as a glass is dropped it bounces and shards go EVERYWHERE. It made clean up a nightmare. I would totally opt for plastic wine glasses, to keep feet safe and happy! If I could do it all over again, I would book this place over and over again! It was wedding perfection!

From the moment we got engaged, my husband and I knew we wanted to have our 115 person wedding reception at the Carnegie Institution for Science, a couple blocks from our house. Event manager Becky Hudson was a total pro and helped us navigate all the various questions about the venue, vendors and potential set-up options.

Becky helped us throughout our various walk-throughs, and was super responsive via email and phone.

The building is stunning and will impress your guests. There are few limiting rules - everything from red wine to open flames are allowed. And at the time we signed our contract, the cost for renting was very affordable for the DC area.(We did end up adding an extra event hour for a fee since we did a cocktail hour and seated dinner/reception.)

This venue is one of the best in Washington, with a great location and flexible options. I highly recommend it for DC couples.

We had our wedding at the Carnegie institute for Science this past May (2015), and we could not have been happier! Ana from the Carnegie worked very closely with us and our vendors from the first meeting till after the ceremony, making the overall planning process very simple. The venue itself is nothing short of magnificent. We had about 130 people attend and had a sit down dinner in the ballroom. Our guests loved being able to go from sitting down and chatting, to dancing a mere 50 ft away, to taking a break outside on the front steps of the building. The library upstairs provided several fun opportunities to take pictures, and provided my wife and me the opportunity to take a break with just ourselves after the ceremony. We used the main rotunda (for ceremony and dancing), ballroom (for dining), boardroom (for bar and photo booth), and library, all was very comfortable and our guests did not feel crowded. The Carnegie is located close to several hotels, as well as after party locations in a popular area of DC, making it about the best place to get married in the district. It is probably due to all of this that the institute books fairly far in advance, and we were lucky to wander in January 2014 and put our name down for a Saturday wedding Memorial weekend 2015.

We recently got married here and worked with Ana. We had to wait over a year to get our Spring wedding since all the dates were booked up one year in advance. The Carnegie is a very popular wedding venue. You do not have to spend a lot on flowers or decorations since the venue is so beautiful. The only downside is that you have to rent every item, but if you go through their approved caterer, they arrange all of that for you. It is a very unique wedding venue because you have a boardroom, ballroom, and dining room to host guests in. The ballroom is the perfect spot for the first dance with your husband. We had our ceremony in the rotunda and had our chairs arranged in a round fashion. It was a very intimate ceremony. My father escorted me down the stairs and we even hired a string quartet for the ceremony music. Definitely add the $600 for the Portico because it makes such an amazing entrance when you enter back as husband and wife and you get to enter through the giant double doors. All the guests raved about how great the venue was and how romantic and magical the ceremony was in the round. I highly recommend this venue. I definitely recommend the Carnegie over any hotel in the DC area. You can get married in hotels anywhere in the U.S. but in D.C. you are able to get married in a historic building.

When my husband and I started looking at wedding venues, Carnegie was at the top of our venue list. We were not disappointed that we chose to have our wedding ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception here. For DC, you get a lot of of (beautiful!) space and a wonderful contact to answer your questions. Our contact, Becky, was very responsive and always provided us with the answers to the questions we had. On our wedding day, she helped coordinate with our other vendors to make sure the day ran smoothly. Carnegie was also accommodating and allowed us to drop off some items during our rehearsal so that we would not have to worry about them the day of our wedding. We were able to handle the majority of our planning through e-mail, but did an initial walk-through to see the space as well as a walk-through with our caterer before the wedding. Carnegie provides a recommended (but not required) vendor list which helped us narrow down our other searches.

During our final walk-through, Carnegie informed us that, due to some internal office changes, pipe and draping around the main staircase would be need during the reception. While unexpected, this was not an issue and they provided us with sample pictures when we asked. We didn’t even notice it during the wedding, and none of our pictures were impacted.

Our guests were also wowed by the venue, and the beauty of the building offered some great photo opportunities. The space is so stunning that we were also able to get away with minimal decorations. Just some candles in the fireplace and centerpieces on the table. That was enough.

Parking is extremely limited in the area, but we had no issues. Our vendors were able to park in the gated lot, and most of our guests used cabs, public transportation, or walked from the nearby hotels where we had room blocks. My husband and I even walked back to the hotel (DoubleTree) after the reception.

If we had to get married all over again, Carnegie would still be our top choice.
