I will say this good first. We had some surprise guests and a few last minute details that needed to be tweaked and they handled them well and didn't charge extra
For them. However; We had nothing but issues with them from the beginning in every aspect imaginable. They double booked us, offered to waive the island fee once we had to move our date, then tried to charge us for it anyway, tcu eventually took it off after I proved to them they had said they would take it off, DO NOT USE THEIR AV COMPANY we had nothing but issues with communications and also the lighting and logo were not worth the money. Pay extra and use someone else. My toss bouquet and probably 1 full sheet cake went missing, drinks were taken from guests well before they were finished with them, communication of any kind with them was horrible. We dealt with several people and none of them promptly followed up with us (if they ever did) except one. Our tasting was canceled, without our knowledge, so we showed up and then had to arrange to show up another time. The quotes and invoices are not clear and are not accurate. They are getting a new system so it could improve once they learn how to use it. We felt for what they charge, you can do better elsewhere. If thy would lower food costs, I may have rated them higher but they are not worth 50+/plate.

We booked the Century Center in 2012 for our 2013 wedding. About four months before our wedding, we were informed that the management company was changing and that we would be working with different coordinators and catering for our event.

Overall, I think the change was an improvement. The new management company has things moving in the right direction, and Kate, who coordinated our event, was attentive and helpful. However, the event itself could have run more smoothly. When they opened the bar after dinner, they only had one bar tender (we were supposed to have more than that) which created a huge backup for drinks. They also were slow in getting the cake off the dance floor and cut.

This review is based on our Wedding we held at the Century Center in October 2011:

I'm finally getting myself together to do our wedding vendor reviews and hope that future brides find these helpful. South Bend is my hometown, and while I'm very familiar with the town, it would still prove to be a challenge as I currently live out of state and am an out of town bride. We were torn between The Palais Royale and The Century Center. We ultimately went with the Century Center (The Grand Hall) as it's more of a clean slate for design.

Working with the staff at the Century Center was pleasant. We worked with them for both our rehearsal dinner (College Football Hall of Fame) and our wedding reception. First, securing our contract for The CC with Julie N. was clean and effortless. We had great pleasure in working with Melanie H. of catering- she and the Chef Peters were receptive and accommodating to my and my husband's foodie demands. We provided them with suggestions, ideas, and menus. In turn, they served fantastic food, which our guests are still raving about.

We worked with Alex B., the event manager for the layout and set up details. Our initial experience was great, until a major detail was overlooked- the sound system for our ceremony. This was handled by The CC staff at the most inopportune and inappropriate time- in the middle of the rehearsal dinner. Imagine entertaining your guests at your rehearsal dinner, then being pulled aside to handle a $660 charge. Not favorable by any means.

In summary, our overall experience was good. Getting married in South Bend, with a wedding of 175+, you have very few options. I would recommend the Century Center to future brides. They do need to update their website and pictures. I personally think the venue is much better in person, than what they have on the website. I was mildly embarrassed to show friends the website before the wedding.

Our wedding coordinator at the Century Center was absolutely wonderful. She was very responsive and professional the entire time. Because of her timeliness and responsiveness, planning the reception was one of the least stressful parts of the wedding planning process. They really had their act together. (Our ceremony was at another location.) I would definitely recommend the Century Center to anyone getting married in the South Bend area.

Alex Blatt was wonderful. He was professional, thorough, conscious of budgets, timelines and schedules. He worked very hard to make a seemingly complicated event and made it quite simple to pull together. He not only listened to what we wanted as a couple but he made it happen. Without Alex, working with the Century Center would have been very difficult. Our event was everything we wanted it to be thanks in part to Alex and his efforts; however, getting to that point would have been difficult with him!

We used the great hall at Century Center for our wedding reception. While finding a date that was available was by far the most complicated part of our whole wedding process - we finally found a date that was available without being a ND home game. We could not complain about anything at the actual reception - everything was in it's place as promised and beautiful. The service was great provided by the bartenders and wait staff, and the food was surprisingly good.

The booking staff could have been more accomodating, but all in all it came together perfectly.

I would highly recommend this venue if you are looking for a large venue that can easily handle 400+ people. I do not think this venue would be nearly as needed if you are having a small wedding.
