We saw in a wedding magazine how couples would give guests personalised water bottles. We both loved the idea, but when we looked online we were kind of shocked by how much the labels cost. We decided to make the labels ourselves, and stick them on the bottles ourselves, too. It is really cheap to do, too! We bought a few cases of water from the Costco in Raleigh, and the Eric picked up some label makers from Office Max in Durham. I think any office supply store carries the label makers. We have a good printer, but we used Office Max's color printers. It was about three hours of work in total, including coming up with the design, but it looked nice on our wedding day and it was a nice souvenir for us.

I had my bouquet made by another florist in town, but my mom had the whole house decorated with big bouquets and centerpieces that she bought from Costco. I wasn't aware that they even sold flowers there, but she said that this was where her work always bought it's flowers from. The centerpieces were beautiful, really bright and fresh vibrant flowers. I was happy that we were able to have so many flowers for such a good price. They really made the place feel more like a wedding.

I think my mom and dad stopped trying to cook for big parties about twenty years ago. For my bridal shower I initially threw out the idea of a pot luck: there was going to be at least thirty people, including my friends and cousins and family members, and it wouldn't be easy preparing food. My parents didn't like that idea as much, mainly because you never know what people would bring. My mother just went to the Costco and bought big cases of crackers, cheese, cookies, nuts, and drinks. They bought different marinated meats to grill, and my dad did all the grilling. Everyone loved the sishkabobs, which were just delicious. It worked out great because there was lots of food and everyone was able to find something that they liked! You do need a membership to get in, which my mom does have.

Flowers: This was another tip that I picked up while working as a wedding florist; Costco sells some of the same high price and high quality invitations for less! Part of me wanted to support the local stationary shops, but the truth was that I was on a budget, and that I couldn't afford to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on invitations. Costco has a great selection, the process is the same as with other invitation companies: you need to know how many, what you want them to say, and then to decide if you want RSVP cards of not. We ordered two hundred cards, with rsvp cards. At a latter date we went and got programs made, too, and seating cards. Catering - DIY: We ordered lots of our trays through costco, which was so much cheaper, about 30% cheaper, than the average caterer. We still ordered from two other caterers, just because we wanted more than what the menu offered. And then we also served drinks and beer to our guests. This may be why it cost so much. Does anyone know if there are rules about who should pay for the drinks at a wedding?

This is a super cheap alternative to having really pretty cards made! We knew that they printing invitations, but they have a great selection and carry lots of the cute trendy cards. I had the choice of getting invitations in the Tiffany Blue and brown, but I stayed in my theme colors (of yellow and gold). The customer service rep at the service center was really helpful with the planning and printing of the invitations. We got everything on time, too, which was important. I think we saved about $100 getting 250 invitations with RSVP cards made here than at a local trendy invitation shop. If you can get the same thing at Costco for cheaper, then I think it does make more sense to get it here.

My mother helped me pick out all our invitations and save-the-date cards from Costco. I was rather surprised by the nice selection. We were still able to find the nice letterpress style that is so popular. We needed about 300 cards, mainly because we would be sending many overseas to family and friends that we knew would not be able to make the wedding. We copied the wording we wanted from sample invitations, and then selected and ordered the cards in less than an hour. Remember to have all the correct information, like the date and the time and address of the ceremony and reception! My friend spent hundreds on her cards and forgot to include the time! Wording is much more important than having something pretty!
