As a venue, Craven's Estate is amazing. It is large enough to accommodate large groups, has indoor and outdoor options, cheap parking nearby, kitchen facilities, and of course it's beautiful. We were lucky enough to book this year when the prices are still affordable but next year they are doubling their prices! As the other reviewers said, you have to bring in everything and there are lots of noise restrictions (no outdoor amplified sound at all). If you plan on renting everything yourself, I recommend you work with a wedding coordinator. Everything looked gorgeous on our wedding day and there were no issues with noise levels or damages.

The main reason I give Craven's such low ratings is because the site coordinator brought his son to the wedding. The son was very disruptive and rude to our guests (he threw gum, chased people around, tried to sneak into the bridal room). Even after our wedding coordinator spoke with the site coordinator, nothing much was done. We waited a few weeks after our wedding to see if we heard an apology but did not. We emailed the site coordinator and explained that we thought it this was highly unprofessional and did not want this to happen to other couples. No response. My husband called him and he basically said that he had childcare problems that night. But still, no apology and no admission that this was inappropriate.

I don't blame the child for this at all but I do think this reflects poorly on the professionalism of the coordinator. This didn't ruin our wedding day by any means, but it was definitely a random mishap that no bride could have prepared for. Craven's is owned by the Red Cross so it's a great way to support an organization that does good work. I would have been reassured and willing to recommend the venue had I felt confident that this was just a fluke, that the coordinator was actually professional, and this wouldn't happen again to others. But with no such assurance, I'm just giving fair warning to future newlyweds.

The Estate is beautiful, and for the price it's a pretty good deal. However, be prepared to rent everything you need, down to the trash cans. Also they do have a lot of rules about what you can and can't do (no sparklers, no dogs, only a certain number of rooms available, etc), so make sure to ask their permission before confirming things. We used an outside Caterer (Melrose Catering), who was really great and a lot cheaper than their recommendations.

We had our ceremony and reception at The Craven's Estate. The grounds, thanks to the 2010 Pasadena Design Show renovations, are fantastic. My guests enjoyed our all-in-one location with the ceremony in the front of the house followed by our cocktail reception flowing through the front yard and foyer area. The back of the house provided a great backdrop for the reception. I thought having to end the wedding at 9:30pm would be a challenge but it wasn't bad at all - we were ready to go home at that time having started the ceremony at 3:30pm. While you can tell Karine's (the event contact there) priority isn't wedding planning as I'm sure she's concerned with managing other aspects of the Red Cross, she was accommodating in the end and great to work with. If you are considering an outdoor estate wedding in Southern California, consider this venue!
