We spent a long time looking for a reception venue in the area, and Cricket's was one of the first places we looked at but we wrote it off at first because the menu was kind of blah and the restaurant slightly redneck. After much searching with places either being out of budget, booked, or hideous we came back to Cricket's as the most affordable option. We asked to customize the menu - I'm vegetarien and wanted that as a featured option; we went with Prime Rib, Lemon Chicken Picatta and Vegetable Strudel, we left with an estimate and put down our deposit to secure the date.

we were supposed to recieve a call in the next couple of months when they'd run our options as a restaurant special and we could come in for a taste test. We never heard back and after getting fed up we had to call ourselves to get it set up. We came in for the taste test and my husband had the chicken (he said it was Okay) and I tried the vegetable strudel which was terrible (think waterey limp broccoli and soggy pastry). I lost faith then that Crickets would be able to serve some interesting gourmet veggie option successfully (Paula said they'd make whatever I wanted, but I didn't trust the chef's to get something more unusual right) We ended up deciding on Eggplant Parmigiana as the veggie option, which I like but it wouldn't have been my first choice.

Following the taste test we didn't hear back from Crickets at all, and when it got to a couple of months before the wedding I called to make an appointment to go over things again and look at Hor d'overe's, decorations etc and make sure everything was finalized. It was a waste of time because she was unwilling to finalize anything with us except chair covers before we had our RSVP's in for a final guest count.

So about 3 weeks before the wedding we go in with our final guest count and decide on Hors D'eovre's and finalize all amounts etc. Paula gave us our final total at this point which we were shocked by since it was over $1000 more than the estimate even though we had less guests than the orginal estimate was made for and hadn't added anything else. We got rid of some of the Hor D'oevre's to make it more affordable. When we got home that day we looked at our orginal estimate to see where the extra $1000 came from, and found to our disgust that it was a simple addition mistake by Paula on the original estimate, leaving the total on the estimate $900 less than it should have been. I was mad, because I felt this was very misleading on Cricket's part, since the main reason we'd went with Cricket's was affordablity, and for the final total we now had we could almost have done Valcour Conference Center, which was beautiful.

We went in to Crickets to point out the error and complain, $900 is a big mistake on an estimate and we felt they should be held somewhat accountable for the difference. Paula kinda shrugged it off and was like oh well, my bad, as if it was no big deal, she wasn't willing to accept any responsiblity for it or absorb any of the cost. Sitting there as a very frustrated bride I had to pull teeth before we fianlly left with soda and wine on the house (cheap nasty wine btw).

We also had to pull teeth with Crickets over placecards, Paula was insisting on having our RSVP's on the table as placecards so they could see what meals people had ordered. I wanted a more classy look with actual placecards and a seating chart, which told the staff who was where and had what meal, I still can't believe how difficult it was to get it my way on that, and they still messed up the seating chart with our table numbers scattered across the room in no logical order, when we had some tables that were purposely meant to be kept apart.

The only reason Cricket's gets a positive recommendation from me is because on the day everything went perfectly, the room looked great, the food was good and we had a great time, and as a wedding present to us Cricket's took the extra 2hrs overtime fee off our final payment. How it goes on the day is what really matters, and a lot of people said to me that it was the best wedding they could remember going to! Just be sure to check the math if you go with Cricket's as your recpetion location!
