Culinary Concepts did such a fantastic job catering our wedding this past June at the Scripps Seaside Forum!! Merlot was our catering specialist, and she was great to work with. She worked with us throughout the process, arranging our tasting, conducting a walk-through with our day-of coordinator, selecting and adjusting our menu, keeping on top of our table layout & seating (even up to the last minute!), and more. She was very careful in handling the dietary restrictions, and even helped us save a bit of money, when our guest count turned out lower than expected which would otherwise have increased the per-person price.

Javier was our banquet captain, and he made sure the service & food quality was top notch. He & the team served tray passed appetizers and cheese & veg displays at our cocktail hour, and served plated dinners of salad with a choice of bourbon mustard glazed tri-tip, crispy skin herb roasted chicken or stuffed bell peppers. During the ceremony, they presented a water station (very popular with the heat we had that day!) and after dinner service, they presented a coffee & tea station. We loved the food (though the versions at the tasting were a tad better) & the service, and we heard great reviews from guests for both as well! Also, my dad suffered a bit of heat-stroke towards the end of our reception, and one of the staff tended to him (along with members of my family), and regularly checked on him. (I wish we had gotten her name!) It was clear that the staff cared for our event as a whole, and not just the food, which meant a lot to us.

My husband & I being fans of food & cooking, were very careful in choosing our caterer. We found Culinary Concepts to have the most flavorful, inventive food, mostly sourced locally, with professional & personal service, for an amazing value. We wish we could have the food at our wedding again!!

Food is very important to us - we've had a lot of mediocre wedding food and knew we wanted to avoid that. We struggled to select a caterer after multiple tastings, but booked with Culinary Concepts immediately because of their incredible food and excellent vegetarian options. They delivered on the day of, serving a delicious meal cooked on the premises. We added an option for late-night fries, which our guests loved. The service was great - they prepared special plates of appetizers and mains for my husband and me, so we could actually try the dishes we had selected. And they also packed up food for us to take home and enjoy later. The decor they provided and the presentation of the food was lovely and worked well with our venue. Catering is a huge undertaking and the caterer is responsible for so many aspects of the wedding day. We felt that CC met our expectations overall, especially at the Scripps Seaside Forum which requires you to provide everything yourself. We would still highly recommend CC to other couples who care about food; however we did run into the following issues.

1. Our contact Merlot was responsive and easy to work with. The final weeks leading up to the wedding, it was a little harder to get in touch with her but not a major problem. At our venue walkthrough, she forgot that we had brought up a particular layout idea for the ceremony and reception, and it took some time and nudging to make it work. It also required our coordinator to step up and iron out some of those details, which was not necessarily her job.

2. They stopped serving cake early - we gave instructions to not save any of it, but were left with two whole tiers. And we had guests telling us afterward that they did not get enough cake. Very disappointed about that.

From the first email exchange Merlot made me feel comfortable and made me feel like my opinions mattered. She was always a delight to work with and accommodating to my last minute changes. I have referred them to anyone looking for event catering in San Diego as their food was to die for! Our venue wouldn't allow food trucks but thank goodness because they brought the non traditional wedding food (which is what we wanted) along with the formal elegance of a wedding.
Could t have been happier with our decision!
*our guest still being up the good and we are almost 6 months post wedding ??

Culinary Concepts catered our May 2015 wedding at Scripps Seaside Forum. Merlot was a pleasure to work with. She answered our questions quickly and efficiently and kept us on track with payments. The food was amazing (a small selection: lamb chop lollipops, caprese skewers, steak, salmon with avocado/mango salsa) and we and our guests were very happy!

Culinary Concepts is wonderful to work with. From the menu selection, to answering questions, to execution during the night was absolutely excellent! All the guests raved about the quality of the food and the amazing dessert bar. Christie and Aubrey were so easy to work with and very understanding of all the changes leading up to the wedding. They are very prompt with responses and invoice changes. I highly recommend Culinary Concepts!

The whole team at Culinary Concepts (Christie, Aubrey, and Javier) did such a great job at our wedding last weekend! We were able to customize the entire menu, and they were able to do everything! Everyone at the wedding loved the food and had more than enough to eat. At the reception, they provided a private server to make sure that my husband and I had food and drinks throughout the whole night. Overall, their quality of food is great as well as their service!

We first met Chef Donald and Sous Chef Chris at the Orfila Bridal Show in 2013. We came to the show specifically to find a caterer, so we brought my best friend (and Maid of Honor), who is a chef with plenty of catering experience. She was able to ask the questions we never would have thought to ask, and she was thoroughly impressed with Donald and Chris. We also all agreed that the albacore bruchetta they brought for us to sample was our favorite of the day! We scheduled a tasting, and after working briefly with Kathy (owner), we were one of the first couples to have the opportunity to work with Christie as she started working with Culinary Concepts. Christie was absolutely INCREDIBLE to work with!!! She was professional and fun, and was extremely responsive whenever we had questions for her. She made sure everything was absolutely perfect on our wedding day, and the server staff was extremely professional and friendly! One of the servers brought a plate of hors d'oeuvres for us as we were taking bride and groom photos in the vineyard (during cocktail hour), to make sure we didn't miss out. He even followed us around as we stopped between bites for photos... so fun! When my husband and I snuck away for sunset photos, we had only gotten a chance to have a few bites of our dinner. When we returned to our sweetheart table, one of the servers let us know that our entrees had gotten cold while we were gone, and offered to bring us new ones. I said it was alright, but she insisted, which I thought was so sweet! She brought us new plates, and we were able to enjoy a hot, delicious dinner! I highly recommend Culinary Concepts for your catering needs, whether it is for your wedding or otherwise!!

Hors d'oeuvres:
-Beef wellington tart
-Curried chicken salad on coriander dusted flatbread
-Panko & pecan crusted brie with jalapeño jelly
-Albacore bruchetta

Dinner:
-Caprese salad
-Dual entree (chicken and salmon)
-Vegan/gluten free option of quinoa stuffed poblano peppers

Nearly a month after the wedding, and do you know what I'm still hearing from the people who attended? "What an amazing wedding...the food was INCREDIBLE!"

Both me and my husband *love* food, and it's a love that's shared by pretty much all of our family and friends. Our guests range from total Foodies (with a capital F) who read food blogs and are always on the lookout for hot new chefs, to grandmothers and aunts with killer recipes that have been passed down for generations. We knew that food was going to be the one thing for our wedding where we were willing to splurge a little.

We also had a bit of a strange dream: we imagined a caterer who could provide the perfect mix of Mexican and Polish food. I'm Latina, he's 1st-gen Polish-American...so what better way to celebrate the joining of our families?

There were only a few caterers that we contacted that were confident that they could take on this challenge. Only three were responsive enough to arrange a tasting that could accommodate our busy schedules. Of the three...Culinary Concepts blew us away. The chef cooked his first pierogi ever at our tasting, and it tasted almost exactly like my mother-in-law's pierogi. And so on and so forth -- I wish I could list all of the incredible food that they made for us, but there's not nearly enough space!

On the day of the wedding, the food was JUST AS GOOD as it was at the tasting -- awesome when you're cooking for ~120 people! Culinary Concepts also somehow managed to cater perfectly to my mother, who is allergic to EVERY kind of pepper. Yes, even though the menu had peppers in nearly everything, they prepared special versions of each dish in a separate pan + plate JUST for her. My mother felt super-special; I'm sure she's never received that kind of service in most restaurants.

It's not a perfect 5, because it IS a bit pricey, and there are some extras that were unnecessary. Overall, though: incredible food, worth (just about) every penny!
