I am a bride from South Florida who together with her groom and 40 guests traveled to NYC to have her dream wedding. One of the biggest details in every wedding is the music. Since I was unfamiliar with service providers in New York I began to do my research. I kept hearing about DJ. David Chan quite a bit and became curious. We met and spoke various times and he was very open to hearing all my requests. He was very detailed in explaining the process of how he worked. He dealt with the draping, lighting, and djing of my wedding and I couldn't have been more happy with the outcome. The dance floor was never empty, he surpassed our expectations. The music was perfect. He created an ambiance that would have otherwise not have been there. I recommend him with my eyes closed.

He is the best of the best and worth every penny! Can't wait to work with him in the near future!

I chose david because I thought he is a high level professional. His services were expensive ( $5000 for a DJ is not cheap) but we thought that for a good DJ it is all right. On our last meeting before the wedding I asked him what if we would like to have an extra hour if our guests would want to party a little more. He made us prepay for that $1000 assuring us that he always keeps the party going. He didn't keep the party going and he was the least interactive DJ I have ever met. He didn't play the songs we asked, music was so loud that the guests were running from the ballroom to the bar in the other room. And I think he lies a lot about his professional credentials.
After we asked to refund us a $1000 we advanced him. He said that he paid already his staff and he is not going to do that. He totally took advantage of couple who is about to get married! How low is that?
I just wanted brides to know about my bad experience. Stay away! I was in the same position not long ago planning my wedding and maybe my review will help you in your choice of the best people to handle your special day.

Hi Tatiana(Not your real name)-

First off, we pride ourselves on being responsive to our clients so I am sorry if you felt like you did not get the service you expected. That said I have some issues with your "review". Firstly, at our last meeting, your fiance asked me how we handle overtime and I said that we were happy to stay as late as you wanted based on the overtime fee in your contract with our company. He then said "Why don't we just extend the party an hour right now. How much is that?". It was completely his idea and I even asked "Are you sure?". The overtime fee covers my fee but also covers the fees of 2 lighting technicians who setup the uplights and the dancefloor lighting as well as an audio technician that setup your sound and a truck driver who returns at the end of the night to pick up all of the lighting and sound equipment. By extending at this final meeting, you changed the end time of the event and thus the fees of all of the aforementioned staff. At the event, you chose not to continue the reception until the new end time but all of the staff had already been booked and paid until this new end time. This is why it states in our contract with you that all payments are non-refundable. I pointed this "Term" out when you signed the contract so this is not something new. The staff and I were more than happy to perform our services until the new end time but you chose to end the event earlier. Just like if you had paid for your wedding venue until the new end time, I am sure you did not expect them to refund for the unused time or staff or alcohol or food.

As far as your actual complaints about my performance, I tried to make it as fun of a dance party as I could. I always try to do that. I played a mixture of music and read the crowd like I always do. They danced for quite a bit of time and appeared to have fun. The fact that the bar was in the other room meant that guests had to go into another room for a drink. I also came to you and your husband several times to see if you wanted me to play anything or do anything differently and the answer was always "You are doing great, thanks!". The fact that your guests faded a little earlier than you expected was not because I did not try to make them dance as long as possible. If you had wanted me to play anything different or at any different volume, all you had to do was ask.

The statement about my credentials I consider an incredible insult! I have successfully DJ'ed in the toughest market in the world for over 20 years. I think my longevity and the thousands of happy repeat clients speaks to my credentials. I have also been written about in numerous publications such as the NY Times, New York Magazine, Modern Bride, The NY Observer so I believe I am sufficiently vetted. We are also recommended by many of the countries top event planners and venues.
