You get what you pay for. I went into my engagement/wedding planning process much more concerned with how to pay for everything than about creating a "perfect" wedding or having that magical tearful SYttD moment, so I went to David's Bridal (on Elston in Chicago) specifically to save money, rather than going someplace like House of Brides or Jasmine.

I sort of wish I hadn't. The people there are friendly enough, but they will tell you anything looks amazing on you and/or with your dress just to make a sale. I also had to order my headpiece (which I did love) at least three times because it kept getting "lost" or "damaged" in transit to the store -- which is a 45-minute drive from my apartment, so multiple trips was a huge hassle. The one manager who finally resolved it for me (and had the headpiece shipped to me, which had never been presented as an option before) was great to work with, but sort of too little too late. After all that, I ended up getting my alterations done elsewhere (also a nightmare experience), and my seamstress told me how cheaply made my dress was -- should have figured, since it was available for me to pick up less than two weeks after I ordered it.

In the end, I liked my dress fine and had an amazing time at my wedding, but everything about working with DB felt very transactional and not...bridal or special at all. On one hand, I'm glad I didn't spend a fortune on a dress I will only ever wear once, but I'm also a little jealous of some friends who spent a little extra and can look at all their pictures knowing were IN LOVE with their dress.

Guess you have to pick what's the most important to you, but I probably could have found a better budget bride middle ground somewhere else.

My dress was beautiful and the women who helped me pick it out were great. The store can get very busy and hectic at times, however, even if you have an appointment. My dress was a good value, but their accessories are a bit pricey in my opinion.

I loved that David's Bridal had a large selection of dresses at a variety of price points. I was looking for a relatively inexpensive and beach friendly dress, and was very excited with the dress I found. I decided to have alterations completed somewhere else, but my experience at David's was good. The dress I found there was perfect for our Hawaiian wedding, and well within my price range.

I found a dress on the David's Bridal website and fell in love. After I made an appointment in Ohio for over Christmas, I called to make sure they had the dress for me to try on. Good thing, because they did not! Not many stores had it in stock, but my own local store here in Chicago did, so we changed our plans and made an appintment there.
Turns out it was not the dress - although when I see it in pictures, I still wish it was! But it just didn't work on me. my associate was very nice and helpful, while not being too involved or pushy - I was pretty sure I wanted short, and I tried on just about every short dress they had, and a couple long just make sure. I found a great dress that everyone loved, and people are very surprised that I got it at David's. It looks very vintage. I paired it with a knit bolero and complete my vintage look. And it was only $300.
My dress arrived shortly before Christmas and I got a call that took me by surprise- they said I really needed to pick it up because they were going to be doing inventory. I felt like they were a little pushy on the phone, but they did offer an alterations discount and free shoes (chosen from a stack of old ones thy were trying to get rid of - nothing for me) if I came and got it on time. I was able to pick it up, but that interaction was just a little weird. Overall a good experience and great dress, though.

I visited the DB in San Jose, CA. It was extremely busy in there everytime I visited with the exception of one visit. All of the sales staff were great once they had a minute to focus on you but they were usually helping multiple brides at once so it was kind of frustrating. In the end, I got a dress that I loved and all of my bridesmaids from San Francisco, Utah and New York were all able to find dresses that they liked.
