The story of how we started taking photographs is a long one, but I can give you a condensed version.
Seth and I met in 1997 and were married only 6 short months later! He had grown up with a born talent for anything art, and had studied and practiced every medium offered at UNM; drawing, sculpting, small metal works, and painting just to name a few.

When we got married we had such a wonderful experience with our photographers that Seth thought he should dabble in that as well! He took the money we had left over from returning 6 ice cream makers (getting married in July makes people think ice cream, I guess!) and bought his first camera.

He started taking photography classes right away and decided to switch his major once again from, Anthropology to Fine Art. Once on his way he had a professor tell him that you would never be able to support a family in the arts, “there’s no money in art, only art supplies”! He was crushed and didn’t know what to do. He switched his major again to Accounting.

At this point we were living in Austin, both of us working odd jobs, I was a manager for Hot Dog on a Stick and Seth as an accountant for a small FBO there. He photographed several model portfolios and a few press things for the airport, but it was still very much a hobby for him.

We moved back home in 1999 after we had our first son, and that was when he decided that he was not an accountant and after lots of encouragement from me to do what would make him happy, he decided
he wanted to be a photographer.

We photographed our first wedding in April of 2000, I was there as his assistant, changing rolls of film, lining people up for poses, and the like. The minute he would take down his camera, I noticed something happening, everyone would relax, real smiles would come out, real hugs and congratulations would take place, I would nudge Seth to take that, but he would almost always miss, because he was preoccupied getting the “required shot list pictures”. We ended up leaving every wedding in a fight because I was so frustrated that all these moments were being missed!

Finally Seth was tired of fighting with me, he bought me a camera and said “here, you shoot too”! He was still fulfilling the shot list and I was taking pictures of what I saw. I noticed the artist in Seth had been neglected, he filled roll after roll of images that people had to have, and never getting the chance to photograph what he envisioned.

We did this for two years, and almost burned out, when we picked up a book by Bambi Cantrell, a wedding photographer from California, she had an image of a dad and his daughter before the ceremony that spoke to both of us, a moment frozen in time, an artful representation of emotion. We realized then who says the only images shot at a wedding have to be the required ones.

We thought back to our wedding and remember that in the three hours of posed portraits that we did, even though they were great, the image that was our favorite was a snapshot that my friend took. It was a picture of me blowing away one of the bubbles from the bubble machine that was nearby and Seth merely watching me. No, it wasn’t composed perfectly, it didn’t show my dress full length, we weren’t looking at the camera, but it was a moment, it was real, it was something that captured everything about us.

We changed our perspective then, weddings were a event to be captured and remembered. Relived by those who would browse through the photographs for years to come.
We decided to combine our talents, Seth’s unbelievable artistic view and my shoot straight from the heart philosophy. We quit the other jobs that we had and decided then and there that this was what we wanted
to do, nothing to hold us back.

Since 2004, we have been full time photographing 20-30 couples a year. We chose to keep our numbers small, we didn’t want to be a ‘wedding warehouse’ turning out mass produced images that are all the same with different people in them.

We want to know our couples, we want them to feel comfortable with us and make the experience unique for each of them. We want their pictures to be an expression of who they are, the uniqueness that they bring to their relationship and their wedding.

So in 2009, we noticed we were spread too thin we brought our numbers down even further to around 20. Not because we didn’t love the people that we were working with but because we were neglecting our family and our art .

In the how ever many years that we have been photographing weddings we have watched more than 200 couples get married. For us it’s not really about the numbers but the couples we work with. We want all those that we photograph to be a good match that connect with us, that feel comfortable enough to let the walls come down and feel a connection with our work. Read less

What primary photographic style do you identify with?
Contemporary, Photojournalism
Do you have liability insurance?
Do you offer special techniques such as hand-coloring or toning?
All of our techniques are special!!!
We really try to match the techniques we use to match the feel of the wedding. If we need to make images bright and contrasty or warm and vintagey, we have our 'special' bag of tricks!
Do you have experience shooting in various lighting situations?
One thing you can count on is: the weather is one thing you can't count on. So of course we are experiences in all lighting situations and can get great images regardless!
Is your media preference film or digital?
We prefer digital, but will still shoot film on request. And instant film too if ya have a hankering for something small and cute!
How many photographers do you work with?
Desire and I (Seth) are the owners and photographers. We shoot all of our weddings together! Who knows weddings better than a married couple like us?
Do you sometimes book yourself for more than one event in a day? Weekend?
Urgh! No way would we have more that one event in a day! We put so much into our weddings that we could never give the same dedication to each wedding; dedication that all of our couples deserve. We will only under special circumstances shoot more than one wedding in a weekend!
What kind of equipment do you typically bring with you on the day-of?
A pocket knife, small screwdriver, pair of scissors, pliers...What else...oh of course, we bring a case full of cameras, lenses, and lights!
Do you bring back-up equipment to the event in case of malfunction?
Of course we bring back up equipment! We also bring Ibuprofen. Just in case!
Do you charge hourly or full day?
We have a set fee for wedding coverage and all product is a la carte. We could confuse our couples with a long list of packages.... but we don't. We keep it simple!
Are you available to shoot extra hours? If yes, how much do you charge for extra hours?
We can stay extra hours the day of the event. Our fee for both of us to stay is 350 per hour. And only if we are having a good time! if we are not...1000 an hour! or something similar!!!
What is your policy on taking breaks? If you require a meal break, do you require that the client provide your meal?
We do occasionally need to stop for a drink or to run to the little boy or girls room, but since there are two of us and we communicate with each other with our radios, there is always one of us covering the wedding! We do also request that we are included in the dinner count so that we are able to have a proper meal. After a long day, a ham sandwich doesn't really cut it!
Do you charge for travel?
We do charge for travel outside of the Denver Metro and the Albuquerque/Santa Fe Metro areas. Anything outside of that, we only charge the actual travel costs to get there and for the hotel while we are there!
How soon after the event are the proofs ready for viewing?
Our Proofs will be ready to view 60 days from the wedding date.
In what format are the initial proofs offered?
We have an online proofing gallery with low res jpgs.
How long can the client keep the proofs?
Proofs stay active for a couple of months after the wedding. And for our couples that wait until the day they expire before they order and then realize that they are feeling rushed so they really need an extra day or two...just call us, we can extend it a few days for ya!
Do you retain the copyright for the photos?
We do retain the copyright to the images but do issue a copyright release with the purchase of the high resolution images.
Do you reserve the right to publish the photos?
We do reserve the right to publish the photos, with permission from our couples, of course.
Do you provide the digital files and/or negatives (or copies of the negatives) to the client?
We do include a copy of the high resolution digital images with a purchased wedding book. Or if you are not wanting a wedding book but REALLY want the high res files, we can work something out.
Will images be available for viewing online?
Images are available for preview and purchase online. And you can share that with anyone you want.
What kind of albums do you offer?
We only offer amazing albums! And like our custom editing work, the album company, style, and design of the album is really meant to reflect the feel of the wedding.

Desiree & Seth go above and beyond to tell the story of your special day. From the first meeting with them and their excitement, to our get to know you session in our home town, to the wedding day, everything was executed perfectly. I really look forward to seeing the finished project because the 40 or so teasers where amazing. The two of them are incredibly easy to work with and will bring out the best in you. Our wedding was at my family's ranch and I had asked for a backdrop to be made for a photobooth type area. The large heart made from twigs, pussy willows, and branches turned out absolutely beautiful. We left the back drop up for family and friends to remember our special day. During the reception I had red wine spilled on my dress, Desiree was prepared with shout wipes and club soda, every drop was removed and no sign of wine was found everywhere. Regarding requests: every specific photo I wanted was taken and executed perfectly, however the other captured moments are untouchable. We had a rope swing for our guests to swing on and the action shots are incredible. Thank you Seth and Desiree for being part of our special day and telling every moment through art!

Jones Photo Art captured memories and moments that are going to last my husband and I a lifetime. Every candid moment was touching and captured in such a special way. They were the sweetest and most comforting people to work with. My wedding album also came out incredible and I could not have asked for more. Although, they were a little hard to get a hold of sometimes just because they travel a lot and are in high demand. But they always did get back to me. I would recommend them to anyone 10 times over for weddings, boudoir, family shoots, and more.

We came across Jones Photoart through recommendation of my sister. We had met with MANY photographers, but we never felt quite comfortable. When we reviewed their website, it was almost midnight. We called thinking it would be an answering machine at their business, but Desiree actually picked up the phone! Instead of being upset, she spoke with us for a while describing their services. We had to change our wedding date several times, but Desiree worked well with us on this. We were taken away by Desiree's professionalism, demeanor, and interest in us within a few minutes of meeting her. She was the first person to ask us detailed questions about ourselves and our relationship as opposed to specifics (i.e. colors, favorite food, etc..). She asked us about how we felt the first time we saw each other, the proposal, favorite music, places we visited, etc.. She was trying to build a relationship with us from day one. It wasn't about her or their business, it was about us. We met Seth for the first time at our Connection Session. Seth is an amazing director. He knows what he is looking for, but is a great listener. He is fearless in his direction. It was obvious that he and Desiree had discussed US before the session and how they wanted to capture us. For the first time while working with any of our vendors, we had 100% trust. Their product is more than just a photo. When we saw our photos from our Connection Session, we saw our love reflected in art.

If there were ten stars I would select them all.

Seth and Desiree ARE AMAZING. Their work is breathtaking. They traveled from New Mexico to Southern California to shoot our wedding and made it very well worth it.

It has been over a year since we got married and I still go through photos and our video in complete awe. They captured everything, and tell a beautiful story through their photos.

On the day of our wedding, anything that went wrong or needed fixing, they were right there to make things stressfree... from hair pins to sewing kits, Desiree had it all in hand, while she and Seth still captured every moment and detail. Talk about above and beyond!!!

Seth and Desiree dont just do a good job, they genuinely care about each person they work with and it shows!

Thank you will never be enough, but I will say it over amd over again.

My husband and I searched high & low all throughout Albuquerque, we went to several different photographers, and after an exhaustive search, we met Seth & Desiree at Jones PhotoArt. When we viewed their work, we knew instantly that they were the people to shoot our wedding. Our initial meeting was suppose to be an hour...I think, but ended up being a 2 hr meeting, with lots of brainstorming, Seth & Desiree listened very well. We left knowing they knew our vision for capturing our special day, and it showed they day we viewed the final pictures.
We were also lucky enough to have our after session with our first born son in California, and it was even more spectacular. We absolutely LOVED working with Jones PhotoArt.
