About Dumbarton House MuseumDumbarton House is “one of the very finest and most beautiful houses in the United States,” according to architectural historian Fiske Kimball, consulting architect for its original restoration completed in 1932. The structure reflects the emerging Adamesque style of architecture of the early Republic, and the Museum has an outstanding collection of Federal period (1776-1820) furniture, paintings, silver, and decorative arts.
Dumbarton House is available for private rentals such as corporate, social, and wedding events, but also hosts a regular schedule of programs including regular public tours (Tue-Sat, hourly 10am-1pm), special tours, free concerts, lectures, tastings, school and scout programs, cotillion classes, and summer camps.
The Museum also serves as the headquarters for The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America (The NSCDA), a women’s organization that actively promotes our national heritage through historic preservation, patriotic service and educational projects. The NSCDA is comprised of 45 state societies that own or support 80 other properties around the country of architectural or historic value (www.nscda.org). Dumbarton House is accredited by the American Association of Museums.
