Duo Catering & Events fuses together quality ingredients, creative presentation and incredible service. Every menu is a reflection of what the local growers are harvesting each season, using organic ingredients whenever possible. Founding partners Ashley and Brian draw inspiration from our locally grown produce to create extraordinary cuisine and set the mood for your event, making sure to excite even the most refined palate.

Each menu is crafted with three primary factors in mind. First and foremost is the vision of the client, second is the particular season of the event, focusing on what produce is reaching its peak flavor at that time, and finally how best to integrate the two.

Duo will translate your vision for a truly exceptional and memorable wedding day or event, with the utmost style, elegance, and impeccable service. Read less

All I really cared about for my wedding was the food... Being a chef myself I wanted food that was organic, local, and amazing for my guests to enjoy not the traditional wedding cuisine...which is why I went with Duo. When I was looking for caters in Santa Barbara Duo happened to be my first scheduled tasting...by the time I had finished tasting the appetizers I had made my decision. Their food is spectacular!

We worked with Sarah and she was so awesome in organizing and managing the event. Everyone from the chef Ashely, to Sarah and the entire staff who worked the event were professional, fun, and such a pleasure to work with.

Not only was I impressed by the food and service but all of my guests were in awe. I couldn't have asked for a better wedding caterer. Hooray for the Duo Team!

We did tasting at several SB caterers, including Pure Joy, and Duo won hands down. We loved their food so much that we chose to hold our rehearsal dinner at their awesome location. They did a great job creating two distinctive menus for each event. I don't eat meat, and my husband is a carnivore, but we had no problem crafting a menu for each event that was to die for. We had several guests comment that it was the best food they'd ever had at a wedding, and better than most restaurants they'd been to! We had the opportunity to do tastings with both Ashely and Brian, and both are amazing chef's, and the kind of people you'd really like to be friends with. Bia was our main contact, and was warm and welcoming throughout. We highly recommend DUO, and can't say enough positive things about their food, service and overall experience.

We did a LOT of research on caterers for our Aug 2010 wedding. In fact, we did tastings with 5 different caterers (including the "big daddy" if SB caterers, Pure Joy), and got proposals from several. Food and music were our 2 most important reception items. Duo was the last of the 5 we tasted with, and we were completely blown away by their food and presentation. The quality was fantastic, the dishes creative, and the flavor combinations exciting and unexpected without being confusing or overwhelming. We met with Brian at our tasting, who is helpful, enthusiastic and flexible. Needless to say, we left the tasting with our decision made.

Now, a brief point-by-point review:

Food: Outstanding, especially the appetizers. We seriously could not get enough of the appetizers. I want to take them home and eat them all the time. The wedding crowd favorite: tempura avocado (lightly, perfectly battered and served crispy warm) topped with cool and tangy scallop ceviche. Yum, yum, yum. Another one everyone loved: duck confit on top of a gin-pressed apple slice topped with a small fresh crysanthemum flower petal. They have a HUGE range, and if you or your crowd want something more "typical", I'm sure that is no problem. The appetizers served at our wedding for 120 were as good as the apps we had at our tasting. Aside from being creative and delicious, they try to use local, seasonal and organic ingredients whenever possible. Yay for sustainability!

Our venue had some serious limitations (only electric convection ovens allowed, no open flames) which was difficult logistically for caterers, but which they handled with ease. The dinner food served (chicken, beef and vegan risotto choices) was very good, though not *quite* as stellar as what we had at our tasting. However, it was still excellent quality, flavor and presentation (I got to taste all 3 meals). Portion size was moderate.

Service: Amazing. They worked closely with me, my wedding coordinator and our venue coordinator. Ashley and Brian were extremely professional, helpful and accommodating. They helped with recommendations for food choices and beverage choices. We opted for a full-service sit-down meal, and food was served quickly, professionally and quietly. They are excellent at staffing to make sure the food is served in a timely manner so it arrives warm to the guests.

Help with rentals/alcohol:
Our venue did not provide any rentals, and Duo has a staff person to help coordinate rentals from local companies. It seems they may be able to negotiate a discount, and can convince competing companies to price match as well (my wedding planner worked really closely with them on this, so I'm not sure exactly who negotiated which discounts, but Duo can definitely get you some).

We also bought our own booze. Duo coordinated and ordered kegs and a portable draft system from Santa Barbara Ice and Telegraph Brewery (great idea, great beer). They also ordered some excellent white wine for us by the case. They provided very good mojito pre-mix to mix w/ rum we bought. The remainder of the alcohol (red wine, some bottled beer, Prosecco, rum) we bought from Trader Joe's locally in SB, dropped off at Duo's offices, and their excellent bartenders served.

Value: Santa Barbara is an expensive city, and Duo is not an exception. However, I think the value for the money we paid was very good. Cost was on par with the other "big" caterers in town, and I found their food much more creative and tasty, and their service personal, and Ashley and Brian to be consummate professionals.

In short, check them out. There aren't a lot of reviews out there for them, but they were fabulous!! They have a beautiful new storefront in downtown SB if you go in for a tasting!

Duo provided great food and service. Many comments after the wedding were about how great the food was, so if you have the budget, go for it! My only concern was in our original quote we estimated 250 people. About a month before the wedding after we got rsvps back, they gave another quote but didn't reduce the number of service personnel for the reduced number of people. If they improved the service, that's great, but I would have expected the number of servers to go down by at least one or two when there were 50 less people. But all in all, the service, food, bartenders etc were great.
