I just had my wedding at this venue and was quite disappointed in the service that was provided. Where do I start? First thing that occurred was 2 weeks before the wedding, the coordinator at the restaurant had called me to confirm linens and at that time I had found out that there was another wedding booked on the same day. ( I was not aware of this being the common norm however, apparently with Chinese restaurants this is ALWAYS the case). The second issue was that the staff tried to tell my family that all of our champagne bottles have been served when we asked them since, we didn't see any of the bottles placed on our table and we did bring 90 bottles of wine/champagne. My father- in-law managed to find 9 UN-opened bottles of the champagne hidden in the back of their kitchen. Hmmmm.. a bit shady? I think so. The third incident is when my guest had ordered a side dish for his table and had given the staff cash for it, the restaurant managed to still charge me on my $17,000+ bill. On top of that, this same guest had simply asked for another bottle of Remy Cognac alcohol for his table and offered a staff member a $40 tip and of course a bottle magically appears. The main problem with this is that, we specifically had ALL Bottles of Alcohol that we had brought set to the side and bringing out Bottles to tables must be confirmed through the Wedding Coordinator. So now, the shady staff made money off of what we had supplied on our own. it is ridiculous that they charge and automatic 18% gratuity when the Service was horrible!! This has been the worse service I have ever experienced! I can't believe how some tables were served cake while other tables didn't get any cake at all. Seriously, how hard is it to have over 10+ servers to serve cake to 23 tables? The only thing that I can say was positive about this place is The manager John was very friendly however, I'm not sure what happened with managing his staff. The guests mentioned the food was good.

Mildrew and her staff was great they was very helpful through out the wedding and took care of us very well. Before we even planed our wedding in any way we knew that East Ocean will be the place that we will have our wedding dinner. We just love the open floor plan and how easy going and caring Mildrew is.

We had our reception at HKEO and had a wonderful time. We started a little late because there was a party before ours, so the staff had to set-up. The food and the atmosphere were fantastic!!!! You cannot beat the view and the value of the food. We had 10 plates which was great in comparison to other places where you only get one item. There was a variety of food to fit everyone's taste pallet. My husband and I made it a point to have each dish as well because many couples do not eat at their reception. We kept our venue small and intimate so that we would not feel rushed, which allowed us time to socialize with each guest.

The only complaint was when making accommodations, the person(s) answering the phone was rude and would not let me speak to Michael, the manager and always told me to call back. When I call back, she would tell me that he wasn't available, I explained why I was calling but she would simply hang up RUDE! So I had my fiance, at the time, to call and she would let him speak with Michael immediately. I guess the lady did not like Michael receiving phone calls from females. Oh well, otherwise everything was nice.

We held our wedding reception here, and HKEO was so wonderful! We took up a little more than half of the main dining room (with the beautiful bay view!). Michael Xie and his staff were very responsive via email and phone calls. He arranged for red tablecloths and napkins, custom table numbers, a head table, extra tables for the cake and guest sign-in, and a private dressing room upstairs that we used for outfit changes.

We looked over their many banquet menus and were able to create our own custom menu, drawing on items from different menus. We also had one vegetarian table. Michael was so accommodating and receptive to our ideas.

The actual food was amazing. My only regret is not sitting down to enjoy my food, but I was too busy being a bride. :)

The location for East Ocean can't be beat. It's right next to the bay and offers really great views, especially at sunset. The food was good; I received a lot of positive comments from our guests. The manager, Michael, was responsive to questions I had before the wedding and accommodated changes that we needed to make in the days leading up to the wedding. My only gripe was that there was at least one other wedding happening at the same time as ours and we heard from our wedding coordinator that the restaurant wanted to hold our service until the wedding next door was served all their courses. Between the first and second course, there was a very long lag until our awesome coordinator was able to convince the restaurant that they were being ridiculous.

All in all, I would pick East Ocean if I had to do it all over again. Although East Ocean is more expensive than many of the Chinese banquet venues in the Bay Area, if you want a nice atmosphere, good food, and attentive service, you'll find it there.

Hong Kong East Ocean is popular and for good reason. The food is absolutely phenomenal, they're really accommodating, and the views are priceless. We booked a year in advance, and the day of our wedding, there were 4-5 other events but we did not notice any negative impact on their service. I was definitely concerned that we would have communication issues since I don't speak Chinese, but they understood everything I needed. The best part is the incredible value - the 12 amazing courses of food and free flowing wine (liquor and beer were available at the cash bar) came out to $8K. Other restaurants of much lesser quality were quoting at least that much for a simple chicken dinner! I have absolutely no regrets about this choice!

We used them for our Chinese wedding banquet reception. The food and atmosphere were decent. We asked for green napkins, but they used pink instead. The tables were crowded together, but was ok. The food came out quickly, but they started cleaning up while everyone was dancing (~10:30) and we were allowed to stay until 11pm. Overall not bad but not great.
