Our ceremony was on a gorgeous October day at the gardens and it was simply breathtaking! The guests loved it. I'll never forget being in the gazebo, hearing and seeing the water and the sense of peace I had with everyone who loved me around us in this picture perfect place. We took a chance hoping for good weather, but I am so glad we did.

I did not have my reception here. I think the reception hall is a little "church fellowship hall"-esque so I probably would not recommend that. An outdoor reception there would be fabulous!

I would NOT recommend the Elizabethan Gardens for a wedding reception. It is a beautiful setting for a ceremony and I would recommmend it for a ceremony but NOT a reception. The lady I dealt with up until 2 months before my wedding quit. The new person who took over had no idea what was previously discussed. I was told the day BEFORE my wedding that I had to be cleaned up and out of there at 10pm. My reception wasn't due to end until 10pm. We were told a head of time that we had to clean up our decorations and take them with us. That was fine. The lady I dealt with wasn't even the person who stayed for the event. The staff member that stayed was EXTREMELY rude! Pathways were not lit leaving the gardens and several older guests had problems walking out on the gravel path in the pitch dark. We were made to stack all the tables and chairs. And they had to be stacked a certain way. Oh and put them all away in the closets. But I think the icing on the cake....was we had to take ALL the trash with us. In my wedding gown, I had to haul trash away. That was absolutely ridiculous!!!! When I asked where I supposed to take it, the response was "call the city dump in the morning." So remind me again what I paid them for??!! The wedding was beautiful but my last memory of the night was hauling away bags of trash in my wedding gown, then driving around for 1/2 an hour trying to find a place to dump it. Mind you we were from out of town so we did not know the area. BRIDES BE WARE!!!! Don't let this happen to you!

The Elizabethan Gardens are GORGEOUS and would make a fantastic, beautiful ceremony and reception site. It is in Manteo, which is an island, and, while there's some water, it's blocked off by a gate and fence. Other problems were that there are a lack of quality accommodations around there. They recommend 1st Colony Inn, but it's really not that great and the owners are just frat brothers who refer to each other... nice though. Did I mention it was beautiful?

The folks that helped us were very friendly and helpful. Ceremonies are held outside, but you may use the meeting hall (normally used for the reception) in case of rain. The property is owned by the federal government as a national park. We chose not to serve alcohol at the reception, which was also held there, because we would have had to insure the property for $2 million.

So long as you have reserved the space and time for the gardens, they allow any member of the family and the bridal party to visit for free any day prior to the ceremony, which is very nice. They schedule your rehearsal time for you, and you can choose any section of the gardens to hold the ceremony...lots of flexibility. They have a planner that works with you and takes notes during your rehearsal to ensure you have the proper number and placement of chairs...very friendly.

They reserve the meeting hall for your reception, and allow you to do whatever you want with the arrangement of chairs, wall decorations, etc., just so long as you leave it as you found it by the end of the day. There is also a medium-sized kitchen off to the side where you or the caterers may use to store, heat-up, and prepare the food and beverages for the reception. They allow you to use any glassware, silverware, etc. in case you run a few short, just so long as everything is clean and placed back where it was when you arrived. They often schedule multiple weddings per day, so sometimes there is a little bit of confusion for the guests as to where the wedding they're attending is. But they put up small signs that guide you through the gardens to the ceremony.

Overall, absolutely beautiful location and highly recommended. I grew up just down the road from it, and had always wanted to get married in the gardens.

What a beautiful venue for our daughters wedding. The gardens are amazing! The wedding was held in the overlook terrace and we could see the sound. The staff at the gardens were very helpful during the rehearsal and wedding day. The gardens are perfect for a wedding!!
