I survived Running of the Brides! We went on 2 dress shopping excursions in advance so I knew exactly what size, style & fit I was looking for. We went at 10am, after the 'running' madness had died down. We also brought our own floor length mirror, which was a really big help! Bring a friend or two, and leave your modesty at the door!

Went in hoping to find a dress but with no particular style in mind. It works if you have your mind open to different possibilities and don't go in with an exact image of your "dream dress" In the end I saved about $2000 on my dress, paying only about $500 and it was a gorgeous, well made, designer gown from San Patrick.

Awesome event, and I found a great dress! My friends and I camped out overnight, in the rain and cold, for the March Running of the Brides in Boston, and had an absolute blast. AND I scored an amazing dress for $250 that only needed minor alterations!!

If you're going to do this, bring along a great group of friends and go all in. It's not worth it to get there early in the morning, you'll miss all the great finds that people are trying on and buying, and you won't have the bonding time and great stories of camping out for your dress.

Awesome event, would happily go along with my friends in the future!

I went to the Running of the Brides event having no idea what I wanted for a wedding dress. I went late morning to avoid the craziness and was able to spend a few hours trying on every possible type of dress available. It was great to have a "no pressure" situation in which to really get a good idea of what worked best for me in a dress. I don't even know how many dresses I tried on that day, but it was the last dress I tried on that I went home with (my mom and sister-in-law both knew it was the one as soon as I got it on). For $250 I found the perfect wedding dress and was able to keep my wedding budget in check! I would highly recommend this event to anyone that wants to be able to try on dresses without the pressure of a salesperson trying to close the deal. It was a great experience! The only reason that I don't give this a 5 of 5 stars is because the event only happens twice a year, so you have to be able to drop everything to get to the event or you'll miss out.

I went to 2 different Filenes events and I think that people can find a great deal at these events. I feel that it is important to note to brides that you have to be a bit wary and very particular about your choices at these events. I purchased a beautiful St. Pucchi ballgown at the Filenes bridal event, and it had rips in it. I purchased it because many people at the event assured me that the rips could be mended by a seamstress, and that the dress would be fine once alterations were complete. After 4 trips to the seamstress and much time and money spent I had to scrap the dress because it continued to rip, run, and tear. I think that ladies buying a dress at Filenes must be very careful to find a sample that isn’t too worn, and don’t always believe that EVERYTHING is fixable. With an event like the Filenes bridal event you don’t have the opportunity to bring the dress back to a store or a salon if something goes wrong. There is nobody to be accountable for the purchase (which, though discounted, is by no means a small investment). I ended up having to buy another dress at the final hour (also a sample due to the time constraints), because mine was not usable.

I purchased my dress at the running of the brides. Let me say yes it is crazy but soooo worth it. I got a gorgeous dress exactly what I was looking for for $300. You can't beat that. You have to be willing to scope out what other people have and take what they don't want and deal with some rude people. But we were there for a dress and you just have to be on a mission. I couldn't be happier. I advise you go with a couple girls and have a bllast. Oh also wear leggins and a bra so you can slip the dress over them.

I purchased my dress at the Running of the Brides sale. My friends and I went in the afternoon, after the craziness had subsided. There were tons of dresses to try on and choose from. I found a dress that was perfect for me, and had a great time at the sale.

I didn't want to do the whole pushing and shoving thing so I didn't go in the morning, but gathered some family and we went around 11:30. It was very calm, all the dresses were back on the racks (and it still looked like nobody had bought anything!). I had a lot of fun trying on all different dresses that my "team" would go track down for me. Beware, there are no dressing rooms which one woman next to me was appalled by, wear a sports bra and running shorts or a slip. It's really fun and a great bonding experience even when you don't do the "running" part. I was trading dresses back and forth with the girls around me and if you saw something someone near you was looking for, you would bring it back for them to try. It was a really nice environment, totally the opposite of the push and grab I've heard about in the morning. I ended up getting a beautiful Duchess Satin Amsale gown for $700, originally $3400. The color and fabric was so rich, I got tons of comments. I didn't get the "this is my dress" feeling when I first put it on, but the day of my wedding... I looked in the mirror and that's when I knew I had found the perfect dress. Couldn't have been more pleased!

I purchased my wedding gown at Filene's Running of the Brides event in Boston, MA, and I couldn't be happier about the purchase! I purchased the gown, originally of a $1500-$2000 value, for just $250. If budget is important to your wedding, I highly recommend Running of the Brides - as well as a team of willing bridemaids! I was able to try on between 20-30 gowns in approximately 2 hours, and I knew I found the one as soon as I put it on. Any blemishes on the gown were easily removed by a professional dry cleaner, and we were able to replace the one missing button without any trouble.

This event is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience: incredibly overwhelming, incredibly fun, incredibly cheap finds if you can stick it out for the ride. I say "stick it out," because while the atmosphere and energy and, frankly, FUN, is in getting there early and waiting in line and soaking up the excitement, the chances of finding a dress before 10:30 are slim unless you are first in line (and you have to be there CRAZY early, like sleep-outside-all-night-early, to do that). If you wait until 10:00 or so, when the early arrivals have started sorting through what they don't want and the racks are rearranged, you have a much better chance of sorting through the mess to find something you'd really want. I started finding things worth trying on around 10ish, and was in the check-out line by 11 with my find. I found a gorgeous dress for $250, which is about a billion dollars cheaper than through a bridal salon.

A note on sizings: vast majority in the 8-10 range with a few larger and a very few smaller, so if you are small, be prepared to pay a lot of money for alterations (it cost me about $350, but in fairness to my seamstress, the bodice had to be basically re-made). Still, at $600 total including alterations, a WAY better deal than I would have found anywhere else. To drive this point home: we found a tag in my dress during the alterations process that said it originally cost over $4,000!!!

There's oodles to read about this event on Filene's webpage, I will just hit the highlights: wear bootie shorts so you are not embarassed (I made the trip last minute, and was a bit mortified by my underwear selection), and accept that a lot of the other women with you are crazy. There were some dress hoarders, which I think is just mean-spirited (hello?? once you decide you don't want it, put it back!) but so many of the groups around us were so friendly, fun, and team-spirited that it was easy to ignore the few bad apples. The group right next to us provided me some key second opinions, and once you find a dress, all the groups around you start clapping :)

Most of the categories above don't really apply - this is a one-time deal and a huge warehouse. If you're looking for super personalized attention or someone to hold your hand ("responsiveness", "flexibility", etc), you've DEFINITELY come to the wrong place. But if you're looking for a really unique experience and a fun-filled way to score a great deal, this is totally an event for you. I couldn't be happier to have found my dress at running of the brides - I wish "excitement" was a ratings category above!
