This was an absolutely beautiful place for our wedding ceremony & reception. Our wedding planner was Pallie Gilbert, she was so easy for work with! She took care of every single detail to perfection. I sent her descriptions & photos for inspiration of when I had envisioned & she made it reality. I will say, I gave the responsiveness a 3/5, not because of Pallie but because of the initial response time from the events department. I received the ceremony & reception contract on 08/05/2016 & sent it back & paid the deposit very quickly, within days. Initially, the sales department told me I would hear from my events coordinator in seven to ten business days. It took numerous emails with the sales department to finally get a response from the events department TWO MONTHS LATER on 10/07/2016 to inform me that Pallie was on maternity leave & would be returning in November. Hindsight, it was worth the stress/anxiety to await Pallie's return. But it just seemed that the responsiveness was lightening fast until the contract had been signed & the deposit paid; then it seemed as though my wedding was not a priority & there was no communication between the sales & events departments. After Pallie returned from leave, the planning process was smooth sailing! Day of, she had everything aligned & sent up perfectly.

The ceremony & reception themselves were flawless. We used the wedding gazebo which is such beautiful place for a ceremony. There are also MANY scenic places for photographs on the grounds of the resort; scenic overlooks of the water, a waterfall, rocky areas, the beach, palm trees; it'll look like you went all over the island for different backdrops, but you won't have to!

I will say, to avoid the salon at the resort for you wedding hair/makeup. I would recommend hiring a professional hair/makeup person. They aren't professional makeup artists in the salon there.

Everything was amazing until we received our bar bill a few days later when on our honeymoon. Let me start by saying if this issue below did not happen I would of given 5 Stars. We received an email we owe a balance of $147.32 which was shocking cause we were expecting a few grand back. To provide some context, prior to the wedding we had set aside $4,000 for open bar which was on our high end, giving there were only 73 guests coming to our wedding and 8 didn’t drink. Our wedding planner convinced us to increase the limit stating the bar would be shut off if we exceeded the limit and would not turn into a cash bar, also stating a 23% tip would be included into the set price. We increased the limit to $7,000 knowing we would never reach the limit. So needless to say we were appalled when we received an email saying we owe money and even more shocked that it was written in a body of an email with no receipt attached, I thought that was extremely unprofessional. This instantly raised red flags for us and needed/wanted to get to the bottom of this which ultimately soured our honeymoon which is supposed to be the happiest time of our lives. When we finally received the receipt from the banquet manager ( who was extremely rude and not a pleasure to work with) a few days later it was $7,000 on the nose, what are the odds! Another red flag is that we supposedly owed another $147.32 but the receipt we received was not reflecting it. I asked how they came to this number since they did not have a register to keep track of the drinks; they were doing a “tally” system. On top of that we were charged the %23 gratuity which the total bill came to $8,610 for an open bar of 73 guests (8 didn’t drink), this is 25% more expensive then my brother’s wedding who had 2x the amount of guests. After such an amazing experience we ultimately felt we were taking advantage of. I’ve come to realize, once that contract was signed they had no intentions of refunded us from the bar.

Pros: Beautiful setting, proximity to the airport, availability of resources/options. The resort made possible what I always wanted: a destination wedding where guests could attend the ceremony, cocktails, and reception as well as an event the day before without having to use outside transportation. The whole atmosphere embodies what I wanted my guests to experience on St. Thomas.

Cons: a lot of red tape and nickle and diming during the planning process, more reflective of the Marriott as a company than this specific location. Also, the big name hotel means less flexibility in negotiating, etc and you pay for every bite and every chair.

My coordinator was very friendly, but inconsistent throughout the planning process and wedding weekend itself. There were times where she would email/call/meet and it was great. Other times, there were huge misses. One of the early drafts of my cost detail had a service charge on every single thing, when it should be just food and beverage. Had I not brought that up, I would've been charged for it. At our welcome event, we had missing items and I spent half the event asking about them and trying to resolve the issue, instead of enjoying myself. Then when I got the final bill, it was wrong. Also, on the day of the events, but she kept disappearing and i was constantly asking for her and nobody knew where she was. Most of the ceremony charge is for the coordinator services, but I really did most of the coordinating myself and it was very stressful.

The room block situation was extremely frustrating. My guests found a sale on Marriott.com that was better than my block rate, which created chaos and people leaving my block when i had a contracted minimum number of rooms. As the bride and groom, we did not get upgraded, or any drinks/meals. We did get one breakfast because we are Marriott Gold. We requested a late checkout our last day because we had a photo shoot and had to pack and we literally got kicked out by the staff.

Pallie was wonderful with communication and flexibility. The wedding gazebo (minus curious iguanas that pooped during the rehearsal) was perfect. Best part, no one can walk through your wedding! Getting a room at the Reef for that night will allow you to check in early and have a convenient place to get ready. Pallie kept us up to date with what was happening and came to get us in the room when it was time to go.

Get Rebecca Glenn as your wedding planner and you won't have a worry in the world. Rebecca is amazingly agile and went above an beyond to accommodate all of our plans. Rebecca, being the specialist, knows what's best, what to expect, and is very proactive when it comes to details. The staff was amazing when it came to the wedding day -- everything went amazingly smooth. We had 130 guest's and just about all of them said that it was by far the best wedding they'd ever been to. The weather was amazing, though it says rain via the US forecast (ignore it) it will rain for about 5 min (if that) and then pass. The resort had enough space to where our guests weren't bumping into each other at all moments of the day, the amenities were great, we truly felt everyone got their moneys worth staying at the resort. Those who chose to go a more affordable route and stay elsewhere, regretted it. We just so happened to get an upgrade to a beautiful 2 story suite that we were able to use on the day of the wedding to prep in. Wedding food is tough to please the crowd with -- people couldn't stop raving about the carving stations that we had, salad station, and mind blowing paella station. Our bartenders during the reception were favorites of the night (ask for the Lucy special) and our housekeeping staff was on point. Couldn't have asked for a better wedding week!

My husband and I got married at the Frenchman's Reef in April 2016. This is a long overdue Thank You for the team's hospitality, flexibility in service, wonderful accommodations and attention to detail. You made our day/and overall stay an absolute delight. I want to give a virtual hug and high five to Alex Blevins, Event Coordinator, and her manager for going above and beyond and making our destination wedding truly remarkable! Although there were a few unforeseen hiccups, Alex and the staff made many accommodations to not only me and my husband but for our family and friends. This was our 2nd stay at the Frenchman's Reef and Alex and her counterparts were incredibly courteous, attentive and surpassed my expectations.
Thank you for all your exceptional service.

It was absolutely gorgeous! Everything went perfectly. Our wedding planner, Pallie, was amazing. We did a sunset wedding and it was everything I dreamed of for a destination wedding. I would recommend this wedding venue to anyone.

If I had to give you one con it would be that the front desk staff at the hotel were not very helpful with room questions (managing a large group of family and friends at a hotel you're bound to have questions) however we just asked for a manager or our wedding planner and they were able to easily clear up any issues we had so it was no big deal!

Pallie Gilbert was our wedding coordinator at the Frenchman's Reef. She is phenomenal! Id be the first to admit that I was the ultimate Bridezilla and she managed to put my mind at ease. She was extremely responsive, she would answer questions prior to me even asking them (which was a plus, plus). Everything ran smoothly and perfectly. The resort itself was clean, and welcoming. We plan on visiting again next year.
