I purchased my Sophia Toli Dress at I Do, I Do in Gaithersburg, MD. After much convincing, I purchased a size 16 because I was in between sizes (between the 14 and the 16) and they wanted me to be on the safe side – EVEN THOUGH I was certain I was going to lose 30 lbs. Well, I lost 55 lbs, and that left me with a mighty billowy dress and a tall task for Lola, the store’s official seamstress.

She was just as surprised as I was at the first fitting when the dress was enormous – twice the size it needed to be! The first two fittings were in store – very fast because they slot them on the half hour. I ended up having 6 fittings – the latter 4 at Lola’s house in Rockville – which is a lot, I know, but that is because Lola wanted to make my dress perfect – AND SHE DID!!! She took the time and precision to make my size 16 a perfect size 8. A fit and flare style dress, the fabric hugged my hips divinely and the illusion neckline laid against my chest like a glove. I looked thin and graceful and felt beautiful.

Lola is kind, honest, and extremely hard working. If you are a stressed bride, Lola is your gal – she really set me at east and made even the smallest nitpicky changes I requested in my crazed bridal brain. I looked lovely on my day, and I really recommend her.

DO NOT USE LOLA! I bought my dress at P. Lawrence and she was in-house (though independent) and given how awesome they were, I figured they’d have a good seamstress in their store - not so much.
The pros: She did a nice job getting it to fit me even though I lost weight throughout the fitting process and she changed the scoop neck to a sweetheart and that looked great and added padded cups in that looked awesome. And the dress was nicely pressed. So in terms of how I looked and pictures, it looked great.
The cons: 1) First of all, I had to go to FOUR dress fittings. Coming from downtown Bethesda to Kentlands in rush hour, this was super inconvenient. 2) It took 5 bridesmaids 5 minutes to get the eyelet hook hooked. 3) The bustle wasn’t labeled with a numbering system even though Lola promised my matron of honor who came to a dress fitting that there would be. After 10 minutes trying to bustle it, my MOH and I go to the cocktail hours and five of my bridesmaids spend another 10 minutes using safety pins to get it bustled while I awkwardly stand there and try to talk to guests with them all squatting around me. 4) The dress was too long, so I was tripping over the front all night. This was after FOUR fittings! I even pointed out that I felt the material was folded over on the floor during the last fitting and she needed to shorten it and she promised she would. 5) The satin slip underneath was too long. At the fitting, it kept slipping under my foot. She should have been experienced enough to realize the slip was just for comfort and shortened it by six inches. Instead, I kept stepping on it with my heel and it repeatedly got caught in the jewels by the toe of my shoes so it got totally torn up and kept getting stuck on it throughout the night. 6) I asked at the last fitting if I could try it on when I picked it up but she advised against it saying I’d wrinkle it after she pressed it, so I didn’t. Big mistake! And I paid $375 for this agitation!

Lola was great. I was 8 months pregnant and was nervous of how the dress would fit me but I had three fittings with her and it was great. She made alterations every time I saw her and the dress was perfect for the wedding. I was very pleased with the alterations and felt it was a great value for what I paid.
