this venue is absolutely gorgeous. if you are planning a wedding with an 'old chicago' feel, go to Germania Place. the food was amazing, the people were easy to work with, it wasn't a mistake - my husband, our guests, our families loved every detail. it was a beautiful day, and this was the backdrop.

We had our Sept 19 wedding reception at Germania Place. They did everything to make our wedding reception PERFECT. We had a few special requests/concerns for the day, and they were able to accommodate everything, and with a great attitude! We did experience a bit of turnover with our specific coordinator, but I understand that's common for the industry, and it did not have any negative impact.
All of our guests (most from of state) were so impressed with the venue and had compliments all night. This was our dream venue from years ago, when my husband used to live down the street and we would walk past it. So glad our dream came true!
Also - BEST WEDDING FOOD EVER! Kenmare Catering. I can't rave about the food enough! Our guests are still talking about it :)

We just had our wedding at Germania Place (6/14) and LOVED it!! You honestly can’t go wrong at this place- it’s incredibly beautiful with the “old Chicago” feel, the food is absolutely delicious and the team is great to work with! The venue itself is so gorgeous. They recently repainted, recarpeted and restained the wood floors at the place. I loved that we were the only ones in the entire building so you’re not interrupted by other people or events going on. We had 180 guests and it was a great size! We added uplighting to our main reception room and it was the best decision we made- it was so dramatic and romantic! The process with Germania Place was pretty easy! The sales team was great to work with while finalizing our contract. We booked 1.5 years out so it was a little fuzzy after we signed the contract who exactly we were supposed to be contacting with questions since the sales team handed up over to the coordinators. We started working with one lady for a few months, but then about 2 months before the wedding we found out she had left the company. Luckily, there was no need to freak out because the lead coordinator (Genevieve) and another coordinator (Julie) took charge of my wedding event. We lost no time in transition and Julie was 100 times better than the other lady! Julie is on her game and was soooo great with communication. She was flexible with our package to make it work for us and so we could get exactly what we wanted. She knew exactly what was going on for our reception, asked us great detail questions for us to decide and helped us calmly get to the finish line! The cocktail hour and reception couldn’t have gone better. This venue made our wedding dream because a reality and I am forever grateful. It truly was a magical night and I feel like the venue helped that vision come to fruition. Bonus: They let us keep the items we brought in at the venue for a few days after the wedding until it was convenient to pick up which was fa

What attracted us to Germania Place was that is it truly a unique, historical space. We wanted our wedding to be in a venue that had character and not just another ballroom. The building is over 125 years old and has had many labels over the years. It was a bank and some of the bars they have are former teller windows, Al Capone held a speakeasy there and Elbert Einstein met there regularly. We loved that there is a separate cocktail space than the ballroom. It allows guests to be surprised when the ballroom, with all of the wedding décor, is revealed to them.
Kenmore Catering, part of Germania Place, is a well-respected catering company and the food is absolutely incredible. You won’t just get the standard options you find at most weddings. We were able to mix and match our appetizers and add in fun small courses as well as add unique items from their luxury list. For example, they have a man in a top hat that greets your guests as they walk in. We did wish the man was older to fit the part, but either way they offer things that allow your wedding to be customized to your personality. You also have options to pick your bar selections through top shelf and cordial bar, which is nice. Our signature drink creation that was served to guests as they walk into cocktail hour was a favorite of many of our guests.
The linens were beautiful and the set up looked amazing. Our vendors were of course a big part of this as well, but the recent upgrades with new wood floors and carpet really provided an amazing backdrop to your chosen floral and décor.
Guests kept talking about the food, drink selection, serving service and the building itself.
Since Germania Place has so many wonderful and unique traits, their planning staff is responsible for thousands of weddings and events. As a result, they fall short in many areas, which is important to note if you choose to book your wedding here. I will say that most of these they had mentioned working on, so hopefully this

The venue is vintage, with a lot of character. The staff was a pleasure to deal with--professional, flexible and accommodating. The food was delicious, unique and a good value for a downtown Chicago wedding. The service was efficient, friendly and professional. Lots of nice extras, too. The wedding was lovely--and almost perfect. Only two little disappointments--the chair cushions seemed a little tired (maybe white is not such a good choice) and the sweets were supposed to be placed on each table, instead of set up as a sweet table out in the hallway (even though the platters were arranged properly by the bakery, there may have been a communication breakdown between the bakery and venue).

We had such a great time here for our Nov. 2nd, 2013 wedding. The food was phenomenal (they are a catering business first and foremost), the space was beautiful, and the team of servers were absolutely perfect. The servers were the real stars. I had some dress bustling issues up in the bridal suite (yes, Germania Place has a great bridal suite on the balcony level!) and there were servers up there lickitysplit with drinks and hors d'oeuvres. Germania Place was absolutely worth every penny. We booked them almost as soon as we were engaged (which was 2 years prior to the wedding). I believe they have since raised their prices, but I feel like we got a real deal. Book early! The only hiccups we ran into came from booking early because we were bumped between different coordinators. I have to say that despite the early communication issues, everything was resolved before the actual event. On the wedding day, it was all pretty smooth. There were a few desserts that weren't plated quickly, but our own day-of coordinator saw to those. We had a great time and I would absolutely recommend Germania Place!

We enjoyed everything about our wedding at Germania. However I don't think I would have been able to do everything, even with their staff, without a planner. We loved the tasting; Kenmare is great and our guests loved the food (I wish I would have eaten more!!). We also liked the simplicity of one place, with everything that was included (from linens to all of the items on the "luxury list"). I definitely wouldn't consider their staff a replacement for a real wedding consultant or planner. They're super nice and very accommodating, but I'm so glad I had a planner to do the heavy lifting. We love the space- very "Chicago"- the feel, the charm, the architecture, etc. It was perfect for my husband and I and our personal and wedding styles. We didn't want to have our wedding somewhere "shiny and new." Anyone can have a wedding somewhere "shiny and new." Germania is stunning, unique, and well-kept. We are so happy we had our wedding there. I'd recommend a wedding there to anyone!!

My husband and I just had our wedding at Germania Place and loved it. We really wanted to have a wedding in Chicago rather than the suburbs in order to show off the city to the number of out-of-town guests that flew in. In looking for a venue in Chicago, we ran into two main problems: 1) cost; 2) size - most of the event spaces we saw could comfortably fit only 175- 200 guests for a sit down dinner, and while we ended up being in that range, we had about 260 invited guests.

Having our wedding at Germania Place addressed both of these issues perfectly. In terms of value, I really think this event space is one of the best in the city. The wedding packages they offer are reasonable for the quality of the services they provide. Other venues we viewed in the vicinity were more expensive and offered much less for the cost. The ballroom itself is beautiful- with its spacious rooms, high ceilings, and chandeliers, it looks much more expensive than it actually is, which is always a good thing when you're on a budget.

In terms of size, I think the main ballroom could accommodate at least 400 guests for a seated dinner. Large ballrooms are hard to find in Chicago, so this venue definitely stands out in that aspect. When you book the venue, you automatically book both the Royal and Grand Ballrooms so you don't have to worry about sharing the space with another wedding party. The smaller ballroom is used for the cocktail hour, and can remain open during the reception in case guests need a break from the music. We used the cocktail hour room to host the photo booth, and it ended up being a great use of that space. We ended up having about 175 guests, and the size of the venue allowed for easy flow and lots of dance space.

The venue itself is beautiful, but because it is a historically preserved building with a Victorian style look, it can look a little dated. But great lighting and decor fixes this issue with minimal cost and effort. Great spot for a wedding overall!
