The venue is vintage, with a lot of character. The staff was a pleasure to deal with--professional, flexible and accommodating. The food was delicious, unique and a good value for a downtown Chicago wedding. The service was efficient, friendly and professional. Lots of nice extras, too. The wedding was lovely--and almost perfect. Only two little disappointments--the chair cushions seemed a little tired (maybe white is not such a good choice) and the sweets were supposed to be placed on each table, instead of set up as a sweet table out in the hallway (even though the platters were arranged properly by the bakery, there may have been a communication breakdown between the bakery and venue).

We had such a great time here for our Nov. 2nd, 2013 wedding. The food was phenomenal (they are a catering business first and foremost), the space was beautiful, and the team of servers were absolutely perfect. The servers were the real stars. I had some dress bustling issues up in the bridal suite (yes, Germania Place has a great bridal suite on the balcony level!) and there were servers up there lickitysplit with drinks and hors d'oeuvres. Germania Place was absolutely worth every penny. We booked them almost as soon as we were engaged (which was 2 years prior to the wedding). I believe they have since raised their prices, but I feel like we got a real deal. Book early! The only hiccups we ran into came from booking early because we were bumped between different coordinators. I have to say that despite the early communication issues, everything was resolved before the actual event. On the wedding day, it was all pretty smooth. There were a few desserts that weren't plated quickly, but our own day-of coordinator saw to those. We had a great time and I would absolutely recommend Germania Place!

We enjoyed everything about our wedding at Germania. However I don't think I would have been able to do everything, even with their staff, without a planner. We loved the tasting; Kenmare is great and our guests loved the food (I wish I would have eaten more!!). We also liked the simplicity of one place, with everything that was included (from linens to all of the items on the "luxury list"). I definitely wouldn't consider their staff a replacement for a real wedding consultant or planner. They're super nice and very accommodating, but I'm so glad I had a planner to do the heavy lifting. We love the space- very "Chicago"- the feel, the charm, the architecture, etc. It was perfect for my husband and I and our personal and wedding styles. We didn't want to have our wedding somewhere "shiny and new." Anyone can have a wedding somewhere "shiny and new." Germania is stunning, unique, and well-kept. We are so happy we had our wedding there. I'd recommend a wedding there to anyone!!

My husband and I just had our wedding at Germania Place and loved it. We really wanted to have a wedding in Chicago rather than the suburbs in order to show off the city to the number of out-of-town guests that flew in. In looking for a venue in Chicago, we ran into two main problems: 1) cost; 2) size - most of the event spaces we saw could comfortably fit only 175- 200 guests for a sit down dinner, and while we ended up being in that range, we had about 260 invited guests.

Having our wedding at Germania Place addressed both of these issues perfectly. In terms of value, I really think this event space is one of the best in the city. The wedding packages they offer are reasonable for the quality of the services they provide. Other venues we viewed in the vicinity were more expensive and offered much less for the cost. The ballroom itself is beautiful- with its spacious rooms, high ceilings, and chandeliers, it looks much more expensive than it actually is, which is always a good thing when you're on a budget.

In terms of size, I think the main ballroom could accommodate at least 400 guests for a seated dinner. Large ballrooms are hard to find in Chicago, so this venue definitely stands out in that aspect. When you book the venue, you automatically book both the Royal and Grand Ballrooms so you don't have to worry about sharing the space with another wedding party. The smaller ballroom is used for the cocktail hour, and can remain open during the reception in case guests need a break from the music. We used the cocktail hour room to host the photo booth, and it ended up being a great use of that space. We ended up having about 175 guests, and the size of the venue allowed for easy flow and lots of dance space.

The venue itself is beautiful, but because it is a historically preserved building with a Victorian style look, it can look a little dated. But great lighting and decor fixes this issue with minimal cost and effort. Great spot for a wedding overall!

I have such mixed emotions about writing this review. In the end, the venue was beautiful in all of our pictures, our guests enjoyed the food and the wedding was a total success. However, leading up to the wedding I felt like I had to fight Germania Place tooth and nail on nearly everything that we were promised and I'm really unhappy with their level of customer service.
We were bounced around between wedding coordinators 3 times, including a final switch just three weeks before our wedding. They were nearly unresponsive on email and impossible to get on the phone. Because I was working with several different people, I felt like I had to repeat myself numerous times on things like menu, guest count, linen choices, etc. and I was not sure up until the very end that everything was going to be correct.
Our wedding coordinator left midway through the reception, which was a surprise to me as I assumed the event coordinator was to stay until the event was over. We nearly had to fight with the person that was left in charge to get the top tier of our cake back immediately after the wedding -- really not something I wanted to have to deal with at midnight after my wedding reception.
When my mother went the next weekend to pick up some remaining items and politely give them some feedback so they could improve the experience for future brides she was treated rudely.
In the end, the venue was lovely, but I'm not sure it was worth all of the stress and annoyance we had to deal with.

My husband and I attended a wedding at Germania Place a few years ago and I always remembered it as a truly unique and unexpected space. I live nearby and you would never know it is there. When researching venues for my own wedding I exhausted nearly every option and ended up limited to very expensive "unique" spaces or hotel ballrooms. I ended up choosing Germania Place because I figured if I was going to have it in a windowless hotel ballroom, I might as well do it in the suburbs for half the cost. The other major perk to Germania Place is everything that comes included. It was like having all of the convenience of a hotel (no additional table/chair rentals, caterer included, and my own event planner) but even better since the chairs aren't covered and the food is actually good. So many of my guests told me it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding. We worked with Annie who was great. She was so patient with all of our questions and assured that everything ran smoothly the night of the event. I am so glad we had our wedding reception here, the room is beautiful and definitely wowed our guests.

Germania Place is truly the Hidden Gem of Chicago Wedding Venues!!! My husband and I had our reception there on June 18, 2011 and it was just magical! The place is gorgeous and has so much history behind its beauty. The walls and ceilings are high and gorgeous with big open windows. The food was delicious and all of my “desires” were met to perfection! I worked mostly with Genevieve Manning and she did an amazing job! She was kind, hardworking, and made the planning process so easy and fun. She made sure that everything I asked for was taken care of. There is nothing I would change about our wedding day-it simply was a dream come true!

We had our wedding reception at Germania Place on April 11, 2010. The venue is truly beautiful and historic. Both my fiance` and I fell in love with the place. But we did have some issues with responsiveness from the wedding coordinators there. Lisa was the coordinator first assigned to us. She was very responsive, but turns out she misquoted several things, including giving us the price package for a Saturday wedding instead of a Sunday wedding. There were a few things that were originally quoted as being part of the package (i.e. dessert table, appetizers) that turned out not to be. We later found out Lisa was no longer with the company. The coordinators we dealt with after Lisa were Genevieve and Halley. It was very difficult to get a hold of Genevieve, but Halley was much more responsive. As the event got closer, both coordinators worked with us to get us as close to our original quote as possible. There were a few things they tried to skimp on (i.e they tried to give us a smaller cut of filet mignon in our surf and turf) but once we brought it to their attention they went ahead and made the change. During our tasting we did not like the sauces they had for the filet mignon so they went out of their way to make something that we would enjoy. It turned out delicious.

Overall the venue is gorgeous and the food quote delicious - we received lots of complements about the food from our guests. I would advise people to be cautious of their packages and to make sure they know what's included. Their responsiveness early on is not great, but around the week before your event, they will make sure everything is set, including letting you know which vendors (i.e. florist, dj) did not contact them yet. In the end they gave us a wonderful, classy, and delicious wedding reception that wasn't too expensive for a downtown event!!!!
