We signed up for a 3-session emergency dance lesson with Dee two weeks before the wedding. She helped us put together a simple yet elegant first dance that we pulled off without a hitch. While the lessons were a bit pricey, we felt that they were well worth it and we learned a lot. Our only criticism is that the first two sessions we were able to practice to our music in a private room, but the last session the room was unavailable so we had to practice our slow bolero on the main dance floor while two-step music was blasting out of the speakers. Not the most encouraging environment for a last-minute slow dance routine! That aside, Dee had a good sense of humor and was very patient with us.

I don't know why Go Dance is listed in 'health and beauty' instead of 'unique services' (I guess because dancing is healthy?) but here's a review anyway...

My husband and I ended up at Go Dance two months before our wedding looking for some crash courses in dance and some help with our first dance for the big day. We were not dancers. At. All. And we didn't want to embarrass ourselves with frankenstein dancing or be too self conscious about how everyone is watching us, two non-dancers, dance.

So two months before our wedding we signed up for their beginner's package which included unlimited dance classes and 4 private lessons. For our dance classes, we choose to take swing, salsa, rhumba, and ballroom waltz -- they have a large selection of classes for all levels.

We had Mike for our private dance instructor who worked on our first dance with us. We just brought in the song on an ipod and he'd put us to work. We didn't choose to do any strict choreography or anything, but rather Mike taught us how to dance a variation of a rhumba in time to be music, so that my husband was choosing to do the steps we'd learn when he saw fit during the song.

What a difference private lessons make! I highly recommend them. We went from not dancing at all to knowing how to pull off 5 different dance steps, and even the perfect dip to end it all. Mike was very warm, friendly, funny, and a good teacher. He knew how to give constructive criticism without being harsh or self-important. We both really liked him. And our first dance turned out great and provided some great photos, too. No frankenstein middle school kid dancing for us anymore!

Our other classes were great, too. All of the Go Dance staff was always very friendly, nice, and patient with us beginners. Swing and salsa were our favorites, and they are great workouts too. We really liked rhumba and waltz as well, but we couldn't keep up with them due to our schedules. The classes attract all sorts of different people, and it was nice to meet other couples and try our hands at dancing with people other than ourselves.

We did continue taking classes up until two weeks before our wedding, with one refresher private lesson the week of. We're so glad we stepped out of our comfort zone and took dance lessons, not only for our wedding's sake (and boy, did we end up dancing our legs off on the dance floor at our wedding too, much thanks to the lessons!), but it's something we really enjoyed doing together.

We'd love to take dancing up again, but it is a bit pricey to do as often as we were doing it. We would definitely start up lessons again, although, probably only one at a time.
