I have read all the previous comments and this is sad. I have called Gran Melia for about a week straight and i have also left several messages for a Melissa Ortiz and nothing. Apparently her mailbox is full and when i called yesterday someone else took my info and that was it.

I will take my business elsewhere.

Although the Gran Melia was a beautiful venue for our wedding, the planning portion was quite painful. They were extremely slow to respond. I had to send a few threatening letters to my contacts to get them to respond. Not only that, I had to deal with 4-5 different contacts depending on what I was trying to do (rooms, catering, etc.).

The food was very good (for the wedding and at the restaurants at the resort) and the servers were professional.

The rooms were very nice and cleaned twice a day. The overall cost of the resort was pretty high though. I would recommend getting the all-inclusive option if you can afford it.

All-in-all it was a beautiful trip but a little painful to get there!

The Gran Melia was a gorgeous venue for the ceremony and the reception. We worked with Marilyn Janiero and Jeanette Centeno to make our wedding day spectacular. We corresponded via e-mail for about a year with them to get all the details just right. At times they were slow to respond. It took several e-mails and/or phone calls to get a response.
We also met with Jeanette Centeno in April to select menu items and discuss any other details that we were concerned about. She was very accommodating and all our questions were answered. Our wedding was in October (on the beach) and the day of the wedding everything went as planned.
The food at the reception was great. Our guests were pleased with hors d voueres, cocktails, and the food that was served. The cake on the other hand, although it looked beautiful it tasted horrible. The cake tasted old, as if had been sitting in the refridgerator for several days. We would reccommend the Gran Melia as a venue and for the reception. We would suggest you order your cake elsewhere.

I wouldn't have been able to work with Gran Melia if it weren't for our wedding planner. They were difficult to get a hold of and slow to respond to requests for info. They were quick to request each of their payments however...

They took their time responding to our request for the contract yet mysteriously managed to book another event for that day. We got pushed to the next day. Our POC was constantly out of the office and difficult to get hold of. Arranging for a Welcome BBQ the day before the wedding went south when the costs quickly came close to that of the reception catering bill. This was just BBQ food and soft drink beverages! We went to a private beachside restaurant instead for $24 pp and had the whole place to ourselves--with an open bar! When our guests arrived every single one of them were not given what they reserved and many waited in the check-in line for 1-1 1/2 hours.

On a positive note, the grounds and hotel service were excellent.
