Best decision I made was to have my wedding at Greystone. One of the best venues for outdoor weddings in Los Angeles. Such a beautiful back drop. All my guests were impressed.

Ok so I had to rate everything.
Our administrator is a lovely lady, but we needed a few reminders which is a little challenging.
We understood its a historical location so flexibility was also a challenge.
But the inside (only opened to weddings in 2013) and outside of the mansion is absolutely stunning. There are so many options with the outside and inside spaces. Best kept secret for a wedding venue. Regardless of the ratings I could not imagine my wedding anywhere else in Southern California! We are so happy that it was available. Many thanks to all those involved including Simply Natural Events, Ranger Steve and Barbara, and our florist, Steve.

My husband and I felt fortunate to have held our wedding at Greystone Mansion. It is a gorgeous outdoor venue that many of our guests were not familiar with, and they were very impressed by the beauty of the grounds.

We feel fortunate in that when we first called to inquire about available (back in early January 2011), they did not have any Saturdays available until January 2012 (when we were looking for a August/September 2011 wedding date)! However, about 2 hours after I spoke with Barbara, the events coordinator for Greystone, she called me back letting me know of a cancellation. We immediately proceeded to booking Greystone for our wedding.

Compared to other outdoor venues, Greystone was much more affordable. It was nice to book the grounds a-la-carte, so that I could book other vendors without obligation to use Greystone's preferred vendors. The walk-through was a great opportunity for my vendors to orient themselves to the grounds and ask questions.

While Barbara is a very friendly and sweet lady, she does tend to be forgetful sometimes. It did not impede with wedding preparations, but for someone as organized and detail-oriented as I am, it was a bit unsettling. My wedding coordinator worked with Barbara for the duration of the engagement, and my coordinator had no issue getting additional paperwork or clarifying last-minute issues.

The con about Greystone is that the grounds really are a-la carte. Meaning, they provide the parking lot, bathrooms, etc., but we had to bring our own trash cans! I went to Lowe's and bought 3 large rolling trash bins to provide to our guests. I had additional details to think about since they provided nothing, including power cords, trash cans, trash bags, and umbrellas (for shading).

The other con is that guests have to leave by 8pm. My husband and I were dead set on throwing an afterparty, so we had to find another venue to hold the afterparty after we were done at Greystone at 8pm.

I wasn't aware of this on the day of, but apparently there tends to be lots of ants in the reception/courtyard area? My wedding coordinator had to designate one of her assistants to simply stand at the dessert table and make sure ants didn't find their way to our dessert display.

We do not regret having our wedding at Greystone, but there are small details that could have made the planning experience a bit more easy.

Greystone was absolutely my dream venue. My wedding would have never been the same if we didn't do our ceremony there. We didn't do the reception because it's only open until sun down which wouldn't be enough partying for us. THIS IS AN AMAZINGGGGGGG VENUE!!! YOU HAVE TO SEE IT to really take it all in. My only comment is that there are a TON of rules associated with doing an event there and it books up FAST.

Greystone was ABSOLUTELY gorgeous and exactly the backdrop we were looking for. Since it is a city-owned property/park, they are very strict on what can and cannot be done, such as no candle-light allowed and we must be done by 8pm, etc. That didn't deter us however and the wedding was wonderful - couldn't have picked a better place.

Barbara was very knowledgeable about the grounds and gave us a tour then was there for the final walk-through. It IS very difficult to get through to her though - it would sometimes take 3 or 4 phone calls before I'd get answers back. Booking took a lot longer than anticipated and even getting a receipt to confirm our day was indeed booked took a while. When you're depending on the venue being booked before you could go forward with plans, this puts everything else on hold.

Overall I'd certainly recommend Greystone - just prepare to be persistent.

Greystone has been used in numerous movies and has been the site of political events and celebrity weddings. We were able to pick our own caterer and had use of several parts of the grounds. They also only have one wedding per day. An absolutely beautiful site to get married. Our guests were thrilled. I could not have been happier.

The day we were engaged, we were up at Hearst Castle. We wanted to get married someplace that evoked a similar feeling, but Hearst Castle just wasn't feasible for us. Little did we know that this hidden treasure, which is just 10 minutes from where we live, would be the ideal background for our perfect wedding. Most people who live in L.A. don't even know it's there! Our guests were completely enamored by the setting. The Mansion, which was built by the Doheny family, has a bit of a dark history, but that just adds to its allure. Everyone there, from the coordinator to the park rangers were quite helpful and willing to work closely with our full-service caterer. The place is a historic site owned by the City of Beverly Hills, and for that reason there were a few rules (such as no candles, no animals, etc.) by which we were quite willing to abide, since we are deeply respectful of the beauty of this gem. If you are seeking an outdoor, English garden type of wedding, Greystone is worth visiting!

+ you will get GORGEOUS wedding photos at this place - the grounds, landscaping and variety of scenery are all wonderful for photography
+ plenty of parking
+ not a bad value given the zip code
- difficult to book
- you will need to get your own caterer and rentals - and there's no in-house kitchen
- the party has to end by 9:00 pm on Sat, 8:00 pm on Sun (big bummer unless you have an after-party planned)
- strict rules

We fell in love with the Greystone from the first time we saw it... such an amazing, goregous fairy tale place. I could go on and on about how wonderful it is... but I'll let future brides know about the few pitfalls.

Plan around the weather! Our wedding was in July and it was very hot! We knew it was a risk, so mercifully our ceremony was short! Also plan around the limited bathrooms there are at the Greystone so your guests are comfortable.

The Greystone has pretty strict rules, nothing that upset us or that we weren't willing to sacrifice, but potential brides need to be aware of the restrictions. Barbara is extremely friendly, helpful and willing to work with you if you have something special planned, but there are many rules they won't bend. No candles!

The cost is GREAT, but because there are no kitchen facilities you'll pay more for your caterer, so be aware.

If we had to do it all over again we'd choose the Greystone again, absolutely. We love this place and would make many sacrifices to be in that amazing place!

If "Flexiblity" weren't a rating, I would give Greystone five stars for everything. It's an incredible venue and absolutely worth checking out for your wedding day. Our guests couldn't believe there was such a gem hidden up in the hills above Doheny.

Barbara was quite kind to work with, and it's not her fault that there's so little flexibility. It's a city-run facility. So there are a ton of rules, including the fact that receptions must end at 8pm. The ranger wouldn't even let us linger for a few minutes to get a shot in front of the mansion after our send-off, which I thought was frustrating and unnecessary, but them's the rules. Kitchen is provided but bathrooms are like park bathrooms. Wedding party and guests can't go inside for any reason.

However - take a look if you want a mansion-style wedding. While there were some downsides, the venue is truly magical, and our wedding day was beyond beautiful.
