We chose the Hunter House as our ceremony and reception venue. I am a Fairfax County resident, so we received a discount, but the rental price was quite reasonable even without the discount. We did need a tent because we had 120+ guests. The house is so charming, and it is in a great location. Zane was very helpful when we requested various site visits prior to the wedding. The property is well maintained. Griffin was our site contact the majority of the times we visited the venue and on the day of the event, he could not have been more kind!
We highly recommend the Hunter House!

Be weary about leaving your wedding in the hands of government workers. Although most sites gave them rave reviews when things go wrong they're quick to point fingers and say "well what did you expect?" they almost cancelled my "event" (my wedding but that's what they called it) because their routine maintenance turned into a renovation nightmare where their bathrooms were condemned. Their professionalism in explaining the situation to me was in poor taste and led to unnecessary name calling and foul language. They apologized afterwards and refunded a portion of my money but the situation left a bad taste in my mouth and cost me far more money than I was refunded. They were always responsive when it was time to pay them, but if I had a biggest regret of my wedding experience, it would be booking them.

Working with Historic Properties Rental Services was great. They have several historic rental properties within Fairfax to choose from. The staff was great to work with. They are very polite and super helpful. All of the guests loved the location of Cabell's Mill and we were thrilled with the outcome.

HPRS was very easy to work with! When our original venue fell through, I contacted HPRS to see if they may have anything available. They are a very responsive team, set me up with tours immediately, and complete pricing and specs on their properties. This contact continued throughout the course of planning the wedding. They helped me with the cost as well, did not charge me for a rehearsal since we were planning on simply using the outside of the house. Many of the properties have a lot of on-site equipment, which helped keep our budget down. We used Hunter House, which was a perfect setting for our retro-themed wedding. I have so many great photos of our guests in their 40s and 50s attire, lounging around the historic property!

One thing to keep in mind: while HPRS properties seem less expensive at first, if your event is large you may also need to rent a tent, dance floor, etc, for outside, as well as additional chairs and tables. When determining whether this property will work for you, be sure to tack on at least an extra $1000 to the rental price in your budget to cover such items.

Wakefield Chapel was built in 1899 and now serves as a wedding or other private event center. I wanted a small, old fashioned, chapel for my wedding and Wakefield was perfect. The building is beautiful, with excellent landscaping outside, and a classic interior with quaint floral stained glass at the altar and wooden pews. The staff is responsive and professional, and my wedding went off without a hitch thanks to their help. Perfect!!

We rented the Hunter House in Vienna, VA for our ceremony and reception. The historical house was beautiful and made for a great setting for pictures. My only complaint is that they are some what hard to get in contact with to and schedule a viewing of the site. In the end it all worked out great. They really accommodated well on the day of the event and the staff was very helpful and friendly.

We rented Wakefield Chapel from Fairfax County Historic Properties Rental Services, and were incredibly pleased. The chapel was beautiful, and the staff at FCHP is EXTREMELY nice and personable. They were always right on time to open the doors for us, from when we initially visited the chapel before booking it, to the wedding day. They were very helpful to all our vendors who requested to see and check out the chapel before the day of our wedding. I'd say that they provide the best value for the cost as well - we were able to hold our ceremony at a beautiful historic chapel without breaking the bank. There are certain limitations to keep in mind since these are historic properties, however - no nails, tape, or anything that could damage the property or the furniture can be used, but that is completely understandable and as long as you take that into account and plan ahead, there should be no problems. (We used pew hooks and ribbons to tie things around the pews as an alternative.) We would recommend Fairfax County Historic Properties, especially Wakefield Chapel - it is really a cute, cozy chapel that is perfect for a fairytale wedding.

Wakefield Chapel is a beautiful chapel for a small intimate ceremony. It was very easy to set up in and fit everyone in. The price is very affordable and takes beautiful photos. I did not have my reception here but I highly recommend this as a ceremony place

The site is a historic house with a very large backyard/grassy area. There is a small hill to one side where an intimate ceremony can be held for about 100 seated guests. Otherwise the rest of the grassy area can be used to your creative liking. The ground IS uneven in the lower larger parts of the grassy field but the ceremony site is pretty even ground. We had a food tent set up and used the ceremony site and there was still PLENTY of grass to whatever else we needed to do (we did not need it though). The house offers a great large number of rooms for bride to change into her dress. Our photographer loved the backdrop and rustic nature of the house. There is one large room where you can theoretically have the ceremony if it rains but we did not have to do that. The place comes with chairs and tables as part of the rental fee - we had to order chair covers and linens to get the look we wanted. there is plenty of parking and the setting is appropriately intimate.

This group was very good to work with, though I did need to extend a little grace. They were very helpful over the phone and called back relatively promptly. My only slight concern was trying to view the site, you have to coordinate with the availability of one of their employees. It wasn't very difficult, it just took a little reorganizing of our schedule. If you have a full time job while you are planning, that might prove to be more of a challenge. Besides that, the site (Wakefield Chapel) was absolutely stunning! Our guests loved the quaint style of the small chapel. It seats up to a max capacity of 100, and that is if you bring in some of your own chairs (we rented white ones and they blended in nicely).

It was very easy working with Fairfax County, and the Stone Mansion was in a beautiful setting and looked very nice inside, and had a warming oven and decent kitchen space for the caterers. The Stone Mansion was privately owned until recently, so it had been renovated enough that there were no special rules about what color wine or protecting surfaces etc. (If you look at any historic properties in Alexandria, you will know what I am talking about.) There was not a lot of parking in the property lot, but there was street parking easily available. One thing--it is a park property, and it is in a residential neighborhood, so you may see people walking their dogs or bringing their children to the play area nearby. There is a large slide in the play area, which you can use for fun photos of the bridal party. Also, I would only recommend this venue for smaller weddings of under 100 people, since it is not that big.

Great place for a small wedding! We had an outside ceremony followed by reception inside the mill. A wonderful spot with many places to take some great pictures close by. My only complain was the number of guests you can fit in. When we signed, we were told we could sit comfortably 75 guests but in reality it was more like 45 inside (with a very limited dance floor). Other than that it was a great spot with very friendly staff working with you. Highly recommended!
