This is the church my husband and I originally married at in 2001. When we renewed our vows, we had to have at the same place. Don Hanshew the pastor was our officiant. It was such a pleasure working with Don to set up the ceremony the way we wanted it and with his advice to so that it remained what we had from the beginning, not just a marriage between two people, but also a covenant with us and The Lord. The sanctuary is absolutely breathtaking. There is large stained glass windows in the front of the church with polished woodwork for the walls and ceiling. The carpet is a beautiful red that goes perfect with the windows. There is not a lot needed as far as decorations for the sanctuary because of the natural beauty already there. Our reception was held in Howard Hall which as a true honor for us because Pastor Howard had been the officiant when we were married and the hall is dedicated to him. He passed away a few years ago due to cancer, but he was such a wonderful man. Don who officiated our ceremony for our renewal is so vibrant and full of love for God and his fellows in these world that is spills over to everyone around him. It made the process of our renewal so much fun by having us write a letter saying why we wanted to renew our vows, then had us read each others during a counseling session. Then he used things we told him about our engagement and life together in the ceremony. It was truly a beautiful event both spiritually and physically. Thank you Don and Thank you to the Holston View UMC.
