I was married in October 2015 at the Ballard Bay Club, and it could not have been more perfect! We had a fairly tight budget, and I thought there was no way we'd be able to afford a water front property, so we were over the moon when we found the Ballard Bay Club. It's located right on Puget Sound.... we booked the north room, which has floor-to-ceiling windows with a absolutely gorgeous view of the sound. The room was the perfect size for our wedding (75 guests). We used the single room for both the ceremony and the reception. The room had a section by the windows where we had the ceremony, and was later turned into the dance floor, and a raised platform separated by a low wall where all the tables were set up for dinner. The staff was amazing to work with! We met with them a couple of times to go over what we wanted, and on the day of the wedding everything went so smoothly I didn't have to worry about anything! They handled set up and tear down of the tables, chairs, etc. and provided everything, including linens, dishes, glassware, etc. as well as the bartenders and servers! Since Jewel Hospitality provides the catering as well as the venue, there was no coordination required, and they went above and beyond - including sending out a server with appetizers during the pictures to make sure we got some. The only "mistake" was that the chef accidentally made an additional entree that we hadn't ordered, so they put it out on the buffet anyway for free. Also, the food was AMAZING. I have been to a lot of weddings where the food (especially buffet food) is mediocre or just plain terrible, but everything was excellent. I would definitely recommend!

My husband and I were extremely disappointed in Jewel Hospitality and the Ballard Bay Club. Jewel completely lacked communication, professionalism, follow through, and basic customer service. I would never recommend Jewel based on our experience and strongly encourage you to look elsewhere.

1. Wedding Tasting - Jewel invites all of their bride and grooms to participate in a single tasting event. I thought this was a great idea because it would provide insight into how they would perform on game day. We tasted nearly everything available and felt most of the food was below expectations and had deep reservations about serving it to our guests. For example, much of the food was cold and under seasoned (the filet, roast, salmon), overly greasy (crab cakes), and generally poorly presented. We reached out to our manager to express our concerns. The owner, Marcia, told us that we were the only ones who felt the food lacked taste and that everyone else who attended absolutely raved about the tasting. I asked to re-do the tasting and she said at a cost of $300/person. The tasting went so poorly that we considered cancelling the contract. I wish we had.
2. Event Manager - Liz's complete lack of communication and organization/assistance before the wedding was unacceptable. It took her a full month and two follow up emails from me to get her to respond to my first email to her.
3. Actual Venue - the restrooms were not cleaned before our event. My mother had to ask someone to clean and supply them with toilet paper after several guests complained about their condition. The restrooms lacked extra toilet paper during the event as the small amount supplied was exhausted early on. The seating area and general interior is old and outdated.
4. Owners & Accountability - I am a firm believer of trying to fix things right away rather than letting the issue grow. Their management is down right rude and very defensive.

My wife and I were married at The Canal in Ballard this summer. We signed a contract with Jewel about 1.5 years before the event. Their contract was thorough and concise. We did plenty of research beforehand to make sure we were covered - whether through Jewel or by our other vendors. The staff was responsive to our questions - they would usually take a couple days to respond, but I'm sure they are also responding to several other couples including couples with a closer wedding date. The staff at The Canal and Jewel Hospitality could not have made our wedding more memorable or more enjoyable the day of the event. The service was fantastic from start to finish. Very professional staff and open and honest when asked questions. All of our guests raved about the food and venue. Most people had second or third helpings.

The day we visited the Ballard Bay club to see it, and the day of our wedding, things were absolutely amazing.... The sales staff, and the catering staff were perfect. However, the 9 months between the two were stressful and challenging as the event staff at Jewel was had very poor communication and it would take 4-5 emails to get a response from them. Our wedding was pretty straight forward and very few vendors. It wasn't until my wedding coordinator talked to the CEO of Jewel and I started cc'ing her on all emails did the those under her start responding. When I read other reviews, I saw that others were experiencing the same thing. I loved the Ballard Bay Club, but Jewel was a bit of a nightmare to deal with. Thank goodness for a great wedding coordinator who advocated on our behalf! We would recommend the venue but would be hesitant to recommend Jewel due to the frustration I went through in dealing with them.

I had my wedding ceremony and reception at the Ballard Bay Club which is one of Jewel's venues. Initial experience with Jewel sales associate (Michelle) and my first event manager (Luba) were great. I attended their annual tasting in February which was well done and a great opportunity to taste their food to pick out our menu. In March, a little more than a month before my wedding, Luba left and we were assigned a new event manager and assistant event manager. Communication from then out was very bad. I would send emails and have to follow up three to four times to get a response. The three weeks before my wedding I was in tears more than once in frustration over the lack of communication and response I was getting from the event manager. I offered to come out in person to their office if that was what they needed to get back to me on my questions. Very poor response time which leads to increase stress during an already stressful time. Another frustration: Jewel re-finished the floors a few weeks before my wedding which was nice, however we realized that due to refinishing the floors, the door stops no longer kept the doors open. My Day of Coordinator had to run to Fred Meyer's the night before my wedding to buy 4 door stops to prop the doors open to the venue and ceremony room. I would have thought Jewel would have taken care of this since the floors were refinished 2 weeks prior to my wedding. What saved this review from being a 1 star is Jewel's banquet staff. When I went to the venue the day before my wedding for my rehearsal, the event manager was nowhere to be found but there was a banquet staff member there. She was fantastic and finally gave me piece of mind. She pulled out my layout (which was incorrect despite me having emailed over the correct layout) and I went through with her how I wanted everything to be set up which she wrote down. The day of my wedding was perfect (banquet staff had everything set up according to how I explained it the day before to

I recently had my wedding at the Canal and had an amazing experience! The venue itself is right on the water, and has a stunning interior! Marcia, Liz and all the staff at the wedding were absolutely amazing to work with and had a HUGE part in making my day as special as possible!

When I started the whole wedding planning process, I was very nervous. There just seem to be so many details to think about! Thank god for Liz and Marcia! They truly are experts at what they do, and had wonderful suggestions that addressed all of my concerns, down to the smallest detail. They even had a preferred vendor list, and I ended up selecting all my vendors from that list. I did my own research too, but in the end, all of my final choices were the vendors that Jewel Hospitality recommended. They clearly did a lot of research to make sure that I was well taken care of!

The day of the wedding was so much more than I expected! The staff there were so attentive to us, one of them even brought our specialty drinks to me and my husband right after we signed our marriage certificate so we could enjoy a celebratory drink right away! They also brought a tray of appetizers directly to me so I was able to eat before getting caught up talking to all my guests. How thoughtful is that?!

And I cannot say enough about the food! I've been to lots of weddings in the past, and I've just come to expect that the food served to large parties isn't going to be that great. BUT IT WAS AMAZING! We had lots of guests tell us they went for seconds and even thirds and just raved about how good the food was. And even though lots of people were going back for more, the buffet never ran out of food!

I had a great experience with Jewel and would high recommend using them for not only their customer service, but also because of the amazing food and wait staff!

Read less

The staff were responsive, professional and flexible. The space is lovely and warm; it didn't need any additional decorations. I liked being able to have a "turn key" space.
Also the food was excellent (the green beans were amazing. Seriously, the green beans). There didn't seem to be enough little desserts on the dessert buffet, but my family hits a dessert buffet hard and I should have offered to pay for more. I'd say a good portion of the party didn't get any. Those that did said they were amazing. The specialty drink was awesome and I wish I'd written down which wine they ordered for me; it was great too.

I worried about the dim light & big windows for a winter, night wedding & photos. But the photos that I've seen so far are warm and lovely.

I recently had my wedding ceremony and reception at The Canal. Almost everything leading up to it was chaotic but the actual wedding day went beautifully and smoothly. Although I didn’t get my wedding topper back that I had made, nor did we leave with any wedding cake (I am almost positive it was not all eaten, and I never had a slice, besides a bite from cutting the cake) When we originally booked our wedding at The Canal we were working with Luba (wedding coordinator) She answered all of my emails in a timely manner and answered all of my questions as well. But a few months into our booking we received an email from Marcia Evans (CEO) that stated that we were getting a new wedding coordinator/ Event Manager, her name is Liz. The email said we could contact Marcia with any questions, as well as giving me Liz's email address. I waited about a week to contact Marcia about when I should start emailing Liz with any questions I may have since I was sure she had a lot of training going on. I never heard from Marcia so I went ahead (weeks later) and contacted Liz. Long story short Liz eventually got everything in our contract up to date but it was like pulling teeth to get there. The actual wedding day was great. Everyone loved the food, the service was awesome, and of course The Canal is a very pretty venue in August. I would give the staff that actually worked our event a 5 star, but I would give working with (communication) Jewel Catering a 2 star. It felt like they coordinate so many events that they don't have enough time in the day to get everything done. Something needs to change or they are going to continue to provide poor customer service when it comes to communication between bride, wedding planner and their Event Manager.
