I'd echo what several others have said - Kay Jewelers in general has some very good and affordable options but this particular store is terrible. So much of a retail experience is in the people that work for the store. I interacted with three representatives from the Cumberland store and I would recommend you avoid all of them. My fiance and I went here ring shopping and the first sales rep we talked to was pushy and insincere. She acted enthusiastic about our possible engagement but then wanted us to choose a ring after about 15 minutes of looking! And this was the first place we'd gone!!

The second representative (when we went back another daty) had a much better attitude but didn't know anything about the services, warranties, etc. We ended up buying a gift for a relative (unrelated to the wedding) and we had to return it and dealt with the manager. She was the worst of all. We wanted to put the amount back on our credit card and she refused. She didn't even want to do a gift card - she said we could pick something else out that day!?! Finally she reluctantly did a gift card and we went to the Kay at Northlake Mall where they were much much nicer.

My husband bought my rings at Kay and I absolutely love them. Their prices are pretty good, but they are not very flexible in their services. We bought the package where I can get my rings cleaned and rhodium-plated whenever I want, but it requires sending them away for 2 weeks every time which is not ideal. On the other hand, the shops are everywhere so there is very easy access.

This tore is terrible but Kay Jewelers is great - both my brother in law and fiance had great experiences with the chain. However, THIS store was horrendous and I'd very seriously encourage any and all brides and/or grooms to read what my poor fiance went through!! Here's his full description:

The treatment I received from this store was so terrible I want to do anything I can to ensure no one else goes through it. I could write 10 pages on everything that happened but I'll provide a somewhat condensed version. I went to pick out an engagement ring for my then girlfriend (now fiancee) - as you can imagine a very exciting and nerve-racking experience. I had looked at Zales, Jarred's, and a couple of other stores but liked the blend of value and quality that I saw in the rings on kay's website. I also had a discount certificate good for several hundred dollars off a Kay's purchase, which was obviously a big draw too.

I was with my brother and sister and the saleswoman, Khadijah, was pretty nice - she showed us a lot of different rings in a variety of different prices. She also let us know that many of the settings could be matched with a different center stone, an idea I really liked. After about an hour and a half we had narrowed it down and I had decided on one setting with an upgraded center stone. She went and checked the computer to be absolutely sure they could match those two and she assured me they could. She also assured me that my fiancee would have 60 days to return the ring or 90 days to exchange the ring if she didn't like it. The only other concern I had was if my fiancee decided to return the ring altogether, would I still be able to get back the discount certificate? She said she wasn't sure but then checked with another associate, Stephanie, who said that I would absolutely get the certificates back if I returned the ring. Stephanie said that she had just done the same thing for another customer. Just to be safe I wrote Stephanie's name on the business card so I'd know who we talked to in case there was a problem.

The last step was having me fill out an application for a Kay's account to take advantage of the 12 months no interest offer - I didn't want to waste a credit pull on my credit so I very specifically asked Khadijah and she assured me that Kay's internal finance department looked at it but that no credit pull would be done. I finished the paperwork, paid the deposit and left.

Four weeks later I'd heard nothing. I called to find out the status and was told by Khadijah that she'd made a mistake and that the setting I'd chosen could NOT be matched with the stone I'd picked out. But no problem, she said, the were just going to do it as a custom piece. I wasn't particularly worried, I'd planned ahead and wasn't in a huge rush to get the ring. However, a few days later I realized she'd never given me a date when it would be ready so I called back. This time I talked to Stephanie who confirmed that it was being done as a custom piece. But before I could ask her when it would be done she mentioned, "Oh, and you understand you can't return or exchange custom pieces." I was a little stunned. "Uhh...this wasn't supposed to be a custom piece," I said, "Y'all said you could do this and apparently made a mistake. But I definitely want to be able to return it." Stephanie indicated I would not be able to. I asked to speak with Khadijah but was told she wasn't there - Stephanie told me when she'd be working and suggested I call back and gave me the times when Khadijah was working.

I called back on a Wednesday and spoke to Khadijah. She apologized for the error and repeated that custom pieces couldn't be returned or exchanged. I said that I felt that wasn't at all fair under these circumstances, since they had made the mistake. She said she understood and she would check with the store manager and call me back within 20 minutes. I didn't hear from her for the rest of the day. The next morning I called again and was told that Khadijah was on vacation and wouldn't be back until Monday. I asked to speak to the Store Manager, and they put her on the line (I've forgotten her name now). I explained the situation and she said she'd look into it and let me know. She called me back and said that unfortunately she wouldn't be able to allow a return or exchange on a custom ring. She apologized and suggested I pick out a different piece and said she would work with me to make the store's error right on the new piece. I hung up, went back online for an hour, and found another setting I liked - it was a bit more expensive then the original setting. I called back and spoke to the manager, she said she would be able to give me a $300 discount on whatever the cost difference was on the new setting but that she wanted to first be 100% sure they could put my stone in this setting. I said that sounded great. She said she'd get back to me when she heard.

Four days goes by. I call, just to check on the status (because now I was starting to get a little worried about the time crunch. I happened to get Stephanie on the phone and she checked and confirmed my center stone could fit in that setting. Great, I thought, we're all set. Then she told me the price AFTER the $300 discount. It was DOUBLE the price of my original ring. DOUBLE. I was furious. I went to the store the next day, spoke to the manager and said I simply wanted my money back at this point. She said I could do that but I would lose my discount certificate. She said I couldn't get that back. I told her that Stephanie had specifically said I would and that Stephanie had done it with another customer. The manager called the Kay customer service line, asked them, and then told me that they said I can't. She didn't care that her employee had told me something different. I was livid. Then I asked if she could at least confirm that I had 90 days to exchange the piece and she said it was 60 days!? I asked why her employees had also told me it was 90 and she said that she was no longer willing to talk to me about this and I would have to direct all future calls to the 800 number. Oh, and did I mention I never received my kay card in the mail because they put in my mailing address wrong?? And that my credit score dropped because of the inquiry they said wouldn't be made?

When I called the 800 number and explained what had happened to the customer service people they were horrified. Not only did they ensure I was able to get the return processed, but they gave me a $200 gift card good toward a purchase at another Kay's, and they apologized profusely. I ended up going to the Kay's in Atlantic Station and they were FANTASTIC (especially Dee), so it's NOT that Kay's is terrible. But this store nearly ruined one of the most special purchases of my entire life and I would truly truly discourage anyone from even considering going to this store.

I love my wedding ring set. It is so beautiful and the quality of it is very good. However I feel like when they do work in it, such a engraving and redipping the quality is not as good. Also I feel that my husbands white gold band was very overpriced. Kay's has some ups and downs but like I said I love my wedding set.

We actually used several different Kay's - one in NC, and a few in GA - but all have provided excellent service. They have beautiful jewelry, they are trustworthy and the quality of service is exceptional. My husband refuses to buy me jewelry from anywhere else. They offer wonderful "extras" such as re-dipping for white gold (maybe other metals, but this is the only one I've ever had), free cleanings/checks whenever you want it, and amazing warranties. If you want high quality jewelry that isn't too expensive (certainly not on the cheap end, but no where near as expensive as Tiffany's), I would suggest you come here. Also, the salespeople are honest (at least the ones I've come in contact with). The man who was selling us our wedding bands could have sold us the most expensive metal they carried (that's actually the one my husband wanted), but he advised us to not get that because it couldn't be cut off in case of emergency (bad idea for a man who works with his hands a lot). Long story short, he sold us a beautiful ring that was perfect for my husband rather than just try to make a profit. Just because of how great he was with us, my husband decided to buy an extra piece of jewelry for me. Just an amazing company.

Kay Jewelers was a wonderful place to create our custom wedding rings. Their artist and staff was creative and welcoming. They provided tips and ideas, and the price was surprisingly reasonable. The only problem we had was that they would tell us one date that the rings would be finished and it would always take an extra week. They were working with multiple craftsmen and they got in within the deadline so we didn't complain.

When we did get help the associate was with us only briefly, and she was distracted making it difficult to get much help in selecting our bands. We did find a good set for a good price.

When we lived in Atlanta before we moved to Texas before the wedding, we went ring shopping all over, and ended up finding Kay Jewelers in Powder Springs (a little drive from Atlanta, but totally worth it). The service was great, and they were super fast at getting our rings to us! They even gave my husband a free teddy bear for our 5 year anniversary when he came in to pick up my engagement ring after bringing it in for me for a cleaning. I wish they'd move the entire Powder Springs store to Austin. I love my rings, they came out beautifully! Great value, too!

We got my engagement ring from Kay and really loved it! However, when we went back to get the wedding bands we had trouble with ring sizing for my husband..his ring had to get sent back twice and it still did not fit. So we ended up getting our wedding bands from Jared. We also thought the people did not seem as knowledgeable about their products. (This was the Town Center Mall location)

So we ended up getting our wedding bands from Jared. We also thought the people did not seem as knowledgeable about their products. (This was the Town Center Mall location) Read less

We got our wedding bands here - they are fabulous. My husband loves his and I adore mine. My husband actually surprised me by designing my ring! They let him design it, made it and then let him purchase it on a finance plan, so it was perfect for us.

My ring is a solid white gold thick band with a round garnet set down into the band. It only cost $450 and is a lot of gold for that price! It fits perfectly and is an extremely comfortable band that sits well on my finger - doesn't roll around or get stuck or anything - it is perfectly contoured to my hand, even though I was not even there to have them test it on me!

We've gone back since and have always been treated with extreme courtesy and they really know their stuff and are interested in just letting you look which a lot of jewelers aren't.

You have to send the products off for sizing or cleaning, which can get really annoying. However, they do have great sales and they also are small stores so they remember what you bought and help you pick out future pieces based upon that.

We purchased our wedding bands at Kay's. I believe they have actually closed the store where we purchased our rings. It was the one in Kennesaw at Towne Lake Mall. The were excellent.

I am not a traditional jewerly person at all. Thankfully, the store had traditional and non-traditional rings, along with personalizing the rings. I was able to get a silver engagement ring with an onyx in it instead of the traditional gold and diamond.
