I was married on Oct.12th 2008. I to had a horrible experience with Kim Epps and her staff. I met with her for the first time in March of 2008. She promised to have our catering proposal to us by the end of that month. I emailed her and left many many voicemail messages. It took her weeks to respond to my emails and when she finally did it was one excuse after another. She lost all of our initial notes and paperwork and had no idea what we had request in regards to food four wedding. It took multiple emails from various family members and a visit to her by our wedding coordinator before we had a proposal for our catering. The proposal that should have been finalized months before our wedding never was completed untill 2 weeks before the actual wedding date. When we asked for a breakdown of out catering costs she failed to provide it to us. She offered nothing but excuse after excuse. Kim and her staff showed up to our wedding looking anything but proffessional. She had the same filthy attire on that she had worn the night before when she dropped of the tables and chairs. The food was undercooked and much of it wasn't what we had ordered as part of our menu. I recieved phone calls from over 15 of our guests the following day who stated that they had come down with a stomach virus . It was my belief that with that many people reporting to me that they were ill, that they quite possibly had a case of food poisenning . I filed a complaint with the Health Dept. in Dade/Currituck county who informed me that they had received a complaint from another bride just weeks before. I could go on and on about the issues that we had with Kim Epps. These are just a few of our unfortunate issues with her. What was suppossed to be the happiest day of our lives was anything but thanks to Kim Epps. I have since filed a complaint with the BBB who of course got no response from her. I have also written a letter to the Outerbanks Wedding association who have since taken her off of their list of caterers. It is my hope that Kim never ever Caters again. I would not want anyone to have the horrible experience that my family and I had with her.

Kim catered our daughter's Carova Beach wedding in October of 2008. It was easily the most stressful decision I made in all of the wedding planning. From the moment she received our initial deposit she was a disaster! Never kept any notes - never remembered things that we had discussed - 30 days before the wedding she tried to increase our per person charge (due to her "spiral of stress") - and then had the wrong wedding date on the contract! Until she actually showed up (as the guests were arriving!) we weren't sure we would have food for the reception. STAY AWAY from this vendor!!!!!

Where do I begin? I found Kim Epps on-line, saw her website, and loved the way her work looked. Unfortunately, what you see on her website is not what you get. She talked the talk before she got her deposit. After she received her money, she dropped off the face of the Earth. Getting in touch with her was nearly impossible. Either the phone was disconnected, or it would go straight to a full voicemail, or you had to call people that worked with her to track her down. Her voicemail says that she will return your call within 24 hours, but there were many times where I waited 3 weeks without a call back. I began to think she wasn't returning my calls because I wasn't spending enough on my wedding. I had a total budget of $20,000 (which I thought was a decent amount), but throughout the planning process she continually called me a low budget bride. She insulted me often by telling me that I should write a book about brides on a low budget and how to wheel and deal with vendors (which I wasn't trying to do, I just wanted to make a few changes to our menu). It took nearly 9 months to get a contract from Kim because each time she would send us a proposal, she would have the wrong wedding date! She also frequently confused me with other brides because they had the same first name as me--very unprofessional and unorganized. The planning process with her was horrible, but I was still trying to have faith that as it got closer to our wedding day she would be more available to me. The week before our wedding, after 3 weeks of trying to get in touch with her to tell her our final guest count, I finally panicked and called people that know her to try to get in touch with her. Everyone that was trying to locate her was striking out, and her deli phone # (where she was working out of) was disconnected. Finally, one of my other vendors was able to track her down and discovered that she had packed up and moved her location to another area. That was why none of her phone numbers were working and I couldn't find her. It was a breach of contract because she broke all ties of communication, but it was too late to try to find another caterer. As soon as we got to the beach we met with Kim and went through our contract because I had little faith by now that she was going to do her job. She showed me my contract and everything looked right (except for the starfish) and she assured me that she would be there. She did not have the starfish for the bouteneirs that we had discussed in my proposal 9 months prior. She told me she would not get that starfish for me, but sent my 45 minutes down the road to Manteo to buy them myself and still charged me $30 a piece for them when all she did was tie a piece of sea grass around it. Well, 2 days before the wedding, she called to tell me that the orchids I had ordered would not be coming in so she was just going to pick another flower. She also told me that since it was windy outside, she may not be able to make it to my wedding the next day. The day before my wedding I fell apart! Kim was hired to do flowers, food, coordination, and rentals and now she is not sure if she can make it?!?! Luckily she did make it the day of the wedding, but showed up at the same time that my guests began to arrive for the ceremony (3 hours late!). Since she was so busy trying to make food and put all of my flowers together, she didn't have time to coordinate the wedding ceremony for us (a fee with a price tag of $500). My DJ had to step in so that the show would go on. Moments before the ceremony, while Kim was attempting to cook our food, she set off the smoke alarm inside the house. Nice added touch. The food presentation looked nice, but some the food was cold, the shrimp was way over cooked and tasted a week old, and she took items out of our refrigerator and served them to the guests! To make it even more special, she wore an apron with blood on it while serving our guests. As far as the flowers are concerned, she did not follow what was written in the contract. Never once in any of our meetings had I ever mentioned a rose, and everywhere I looked there were white roses. The price I paid for orchids is no where near what it cost for the cheap roses. I was very disappointed. I was so happy to see her pack up her stuff and leave my wedding. The following day, they were scheduled to pick up the equipment at 10:00am because they needed it for a wedding at noon, so I hopped out of bed the day after my wedding and my friends, family, and I started breaking down the equipment and taking it outside. We had it all there by 10 and then went to get some breakfast. At 4pm, they finally showed up to pick up the equipment. If I had known they were going to be 6 hours late, I would have slept in and let my guests do so as well. Then they had the nerve to accuse us of losing champagne flutes. It was a small wedding, about 60 people, and I saw everyone out of the house. If they were walking off with a glass I think I would have noticed. Anyways, they proceeded to go around the kitchen and bar area taking champagne flutes that belonged to the owners of the beach house!!! Ridiculous! To sum it up, my experience with Kim was horrible. I could not talk to her on the phone the week of the wedding without wanting to freak out on her, so I had my mom and sister do all of the talking for me. The entire 9 months of planning with her was a disaster and the wedding day was even worse. I would not wish her services upon any bride who wants to actually enjoy her wedding. If you hire her, you will be disappointed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was married 09-20-2008. After reading other reviews I feel a little better after all this time and built up anger. I also had most all the same problems with Kim as everyone else. A co-worker of mine used Kim in 2005 and had none of these problems she was with another business partner at the time and I am sure that is the difference! The night before my wedding they brought by all the tables and chairs but were unable to set them up because it was really windy but was on the understanding they were coming back the next day to do so... I was wrong when I returned from getting my hair and makeup done I was outside setting up my own tables and chairs, putting on the table cloths, centerpieces, ect. When I called Kim she gave me huge attitude as to why was it a big deal for me to be doing it and not her. Also she was setting up the seating for the ceremony which she did not show up to do until 10 minutes before it started... my guests were having to wait and stand around until they were finished and I had to circle the block a few times so the groom wouldn't see me. They had just showed up to start the food for the cocktail and main course when my guests were returning from the ceremony... they did not serve several items we had agreed on for the cocktail hour but I paid for, they could not keep the sterno's lit to prepare the food for the main course for over an hour and a half while we were all standing around waiting to eat. They ran out of silverware and went into the kitchen of the house we were renting and took it out of the drawer with out asking anyone! The bartender provided by Kim told my family we didn't have enough alcohol for my guests and we needed to go get more but when it was all over we never touched the new stuff we purchased and had so much left over we were giving it away! Kim kept going inside to use the bathroom from what my guests told me but thought she was doing drugs of some kind. We had agreed in the contract to keep all the leftover food but that also did not happen. I am very glad she wasn't asked to do any flowers or decorating because I am sure it would not have been what I asked for.
We also sent a letter to the BBB and Outer Banks Wedding Association but never heard anything back. I really hope she not still around and doing weddings.. it is supposed to be a day you look back on and reminisce, not all the things one person single handley screwed because of their arrogance.

I cannot believe that I waited until 9 months after my wedding to unload all of the frustration and disappointment that I still feel to this day regarding the service I received from Kim Epps! I agree wholeheartedly with the other 2 reviews that I read on this site regarding Kim Epps's service and delivery as a wedding coordinator/caterer. I have filed a complaint the the BBB..not because I want a settlement, but becuase I wanted others to know that this woman should NOT be your choice for caterer/coordinator if you are having a weddign in the OBX and I did not know this site existed when I wrote the complaint. Just as the other dismayed bride wrote, Kim certainly "talked the talk" before the contract was signed. And, just like the other bride wrote, Kim was IMPOSSIBLE to get ahold of via phone or email multiple times for 2-3 week periods. And believe me, it is a horrilbe feeling to think that you have hired and paid someone who, best case, is totally unreliable and unorganized or, worst case, has up and disappeared with your money! On the day of our wedding Kim was late, and when she did get there she was very flustered, stressed out and unorganized...and keep in mind that I MYSELF did ALL of the table set up, table and other decor, lighting and set up of favors and such. On top of this, she did not serve MULTIPLE items of food that were in our contract and PAID FOR! She was running around serving our guests in some horrible chef get-up with bright red/green/black pants and a dirty jacket. And, of course she never said bye the night of the wedding and never called to say thank you for the business and "how did I do?" I'm sure se knows better than to do that! I should have known better and done solid research before hiring Kim. I thought that speaking with 2 references was enough, but I guess she sent me 2 of the very few pleased customers to speak with! If you are reading this, then congratulations on doing your research and finding out ahead of time that you do NOT want to hire Kim Epps to do your wedding even though her web site and her talk say something different!
